Ii2 reacted to toothless in Star Wars IX The Rise of Skywalker (JJ Abrams 2019)
I won’t see this movie before December 30. Thinking of all the pages of this forums I won’t be able to read 🤪

You are the only human being that's come up with a reasonably compelling comparison between Plan 9 from Outer Space and Star Wars.

I have no idea what the plot is supposed to be. And I don't want to know. That's it for previews for me. I'll go in to watch it at midnight on the opening night not knowing anything about the film or Williams' score. That's how I've done it with the previous two and that is how I will make it special, regardless of the quality.

PROS
- love the locations (i.e. jungle planet, iceberg mainly)
- Adam Driver for the win
- that shot of Leia hugging Rey, although already seen, will always get me
- Rose, who I'm glad is getting her takes, and with Dom Monaghan in the background no less
- the Death Star ruin battle looks terrific (you can see Rey and Ren standing in the Emperor's throne room!)
- the visuals look amazing, a real step-up for Abrams methinks
- liking the costumes (I want one of those winter overcoats)
CONS
- that space battle feels way too big
- I'm really skeptical about Palpatine's involvement at this point, it feels like he's about to veto what the last two movies were setting up for in a really awkward way
- practically no mention of Hux at all in the marketing, save for one photo from Variety
- as @Disco Stu said its looking suspiciously like that Reddit leak was pretty well and correct, which is unnerving (see the moment where Rey and Kylo smash that object in the white room)
- all in all way too much for me to take in at first glance, and kind of switches tones from the material we've seen thus far to being much more Palp-centric, if that massive Stardestroyer fleet is indeed his
CONSENSUS
Gosh, I love Star Wars I really do. Unfortunately this trailer is more of a head scratcher than an excitement creator, but that's how it always is the first time around. Cannot wait for the score, and the movie is welcome too.

The one night of the year when fanboys / gals and pro football collide.
No problem for me, I’ll be watching football anyways.

Ii2 reacted to Mattris in Star Wars Disenchantment
The Last Jedi was provocative as a very deliberate (and teasing) set-up for The Rise of Skywalker - not just "for provocation's sake". The film's climax couldn't have been that "the Jedi should indeed end" because that wasn't the message the film ended with. Yoda told Luke that the Jedi need not adhere to "a pile of old books". And Luke told Ben, "I will not be the last Jedi." But Rey will continue to 'come to terms' with other aspects of her life, which will indeed be powerful and actually meaningful... in due time.
After 'The Opera Scene' in Revenge of the Sith, the end of the story cannot be Return of the Jedi. A long-term-planning Sith Lord as powerful as Palpatine, who spoke of creating life, being afraid to loose power, and cheating death would not have invited the Rebels and a Jedi to kill him... and not a have a Contingency plan to eventually return. (And, as per the canon materiel, he did.)
George Lucas said himself that if a Sequel Trilogy was made, Palpatine would return. Nothing will be undermined, as it makes perfect sense.
To destroy a single Dreadnaught Star Destroyer, Poe put the Resistance fleet at risk, and lost the entire bomber squadron. He disobeyed a direct order from General Leia and was demoted. After what had just transpired - and given the circumstances, Vice Admiral Holdo had no reason to trust Poe. "Loose lips sink ships." And that exactly what happens, as DeeJay overhears Rose and Finn talk with Poe about the evacuating transports... and informs the First Order.
The lesson was: To be a respected leader, you must pick your battles wisely and exhibit selfless qualities. By the end of the film, Poe had earned back Leia's respect. "Don't look at me. Follow him."
I think nearly everyone has misunderstood the Sequel Trilogy. Those who believe this trilogy was made for maximum profit have missed the plot... literally.
Along with so many others, I think you will find that you have misinterpreted the Sequel Trilogy. I'm confident that something very different is coming that will give new meaning to the Trilogy... and Saga as a whole story.

I don't think its a good idea. Really, the whole idea of the Emperor surviving corporeally isn't appealing to me, but likewise something about the concept of possession doesn't sit well with me for this series. Its dumb.
I'm not even going to comment about the idea that Rey is to be discovered as a clone of the Emperor. That's beyond idiotic.

And what if the film actually plays along to some of his predictions? I mean, the Emperor is returning in one way or another, and the concept of him possesing other characters within the story - essentially the main tenet of Mattris' theory - isn't something which is necessarily beyond these filmmakers to attempt.
Sounds awful, to be sure. But I'm not entirely certain the filmmakers won't go for it.

Is it just me or anybody else also can't imagine this Arthur Fleck creating evil machinations, planning bank robberies, outsmarting Batman, etc? Judging by this movie, he doesn't appear to be the criminal mastermind that will terrify Gotham with his schemes over the next years.
