It is my understanding the Moonraker tapes are not lost at all. They were brought back to the UK for additional mixing during post production.

They just weren’t stored with other tapes available for the 2003 expansions (as was A View to a Kill). That has since led to the whole missing tapes myth.

Barry's OST program was a good but feel like a complete chronological sequence would fair better. The original album would be very easy to recreate anyway providing cues are not combined.

The sequencing of the Rykodisc & 2003 remasters was terrible having the OST first and bonus tracks after. Same goes for LTK, not really that impressed with the OST sequence.

Here is a recreation of the Prisoner of Azkaban Japanese CD cover for anyone interested. Couldn't find a high res version of this online and find it much better than the standard faces cover. Only difference is I changed the 'Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture'.

AJM got a reaction from blondheim in Discovering John Barry for the first time/Bond Theme authorship
A couple more suggestions to check out:
Peggy Sue Got Married - the deluxe edition is quite expensive now but there was a song/score album which has the main Barry themes on. Peggy Sue's Homecoming is definitely worth checking out.
Chaplin - the opening sequence to this film and Barry's main theme fit so perfectly together.
Howard the Duck - the score is no where near as lame as the movie and is quite a fun score. Has a Bond feel to it.
The Dove - a really nice score that captures the essence of the film very well. Sail the Summer Wind is a nice song and also worth checking out.

I believe a 5 box set is coming out later in the year with all 4 Indy films remastered in 4K and 5.1 audio to mark the 40th anniversary of Raiders. Perhaps the music has been newly remastered for this? Seems Paramount still have rights to the 4 films so must have the rights to the music.

I really like how that cue and the original waltz segue so perfectly while the revised version and waltz also sound so great together. The fact that they were switched around in the movie is weird.

I can understand that. And they are pretty much sister scores. But there's a simplicity, a lack of ornament, a deprieve to Lion in Winter that makes it a wonderful evocation of the period

Based on other rerecordings I have listened to for other film scores. Not that all rerecordings are bad but I don't think they are as good as when the composer originally recorded the score for a film. When I listen to the Gerhardt albums, I'll make a judgement whether I prefer the original recording or the rerecording.

AJM got a reaction from bruce marshall in SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE - 3CD Set from La-La Land Records
It seems so pointless having the sessions when a definitive edition has been prepared and released just to have a cue with so many takes with probably little or no variation. If there was anything substantially different, I am sure it would have been on the La-La Land set.

    Release Date: 1/8/2021
    Limited Edition Of 1500

Babe was a massive surprise hit in 1995. A children’s film starring a talking pig seemed to be the last thing anybody expected from visionary filmmaker George Miller (Mad Max), but writer-producer Miller, adapting a 1983 book with director and cowriter Chris Noonan, created a universally praised, moving film about a farm pig (a combination of animatronics and computer graphics) who longs to be a sheepdog. With a memorable lead performance by James Cromwell as Babe’s farmer-owner, Babe received glowing reviews and seven Oscar nominations, winning for Best Visual Effects.

A major part of Babe’s exquisite, perfectly pitched storybook tone is the charming, resonant symphonic score by Australian composer Nigel Westlake. Westlake interpolated a tapestry of classical works, most notably the maestoso section of Saint-Saëns’ third (Organ) symphony, to perfectly capture the human emotions of the film’s animal characters, while ironically treating the humans with an animal-like comedy and whimsy. (The Saint-Saëns melody had been adapted into the British reggae pop hit, “If I Had Words,” by Scott Fitzgerald & Yvonne Kelley; a sped-up version is used in Babe’s end credits.)

Babe was released as a music-and-dialogue album at the time of the film. This CD Club edition features the expanded score as music only, packaged with a new essay by Tim Greiving featuring insights from Miller, Noonan, Cromwell and Westlake.
