Just rewatched the film now that this album is here.
 
In my opinion this is Faltermeyer's best score. The main theme has become of course iconic, I forget that he uses it in quite a lot of different ways.
I also forget how beautiful his theme is after Goose has died. That guitar goes straight through the heart.

I need to get that Masada release!

One morning I came home after being out all night...a friend had opened up a new Italian restaurant in London near Covent Garden and we closed the place down, then helped ourselves to his wine cellar.  When I got home I collapsed on the couch but didn't feel like sleeping (or so I thought) so I popped in the Gladiator DVD.  Fell asleep like 5 minutes later, of course.  Eventually, the film played through and the DVD switched back to the menu screen, which looped the main theme every 60 seconds as the menu reset.
 
Over. And over. And over. For 12 hours. Having drank all night, I was constantly in that half awake/asleep dream state where time and space have no meaning and I couldn't figure out why I kept hearing the same piece of music again and again, and how long was this movie anyway?  Didn't even have the energy or presence of mind to reach for the remote and turn it off. That thing turned into an earworm that stayed with me until it was mercifully replaced by Hedwig's Theme.
 
Not that there's anything wrong w/the Gladiator score, but after that, I didn't want to hear anything from Zimmer and pretty much ignored everything he did until Interstellar.
 
Some nights though, I wake up in a cold sweat and can still hear it...the screaming of the Hans.

I finally started preparing for making an edit from the episode albums plus the OST... and then stopped a couple episodes in.
There would definitely be fat to trim, but there's also just way too much good and great stuff to keep, the edit would be at least 4-6 hours long, which I'd never listen to in one sitting. Also, the score is written to be very episodic, would get repetitive mushed together and wouldn't have that much of a satisfying arc for all the threads, and I came to the conclusion that it just works perfectly if I instead dedicate a week to listen to an episode a day, check in daily to get a big threatening Sauron ostinato and planted Galadriels, some mystery, some tension, some action material, get to see how the Khazad-Dum/Númenor/Harfoot (pick 2) -related themes are doing this episode, be reminded of the blandest theme (Bronwin/Arondir), then wrap up nicely at the end.
Or the other solution would be to edit it down very severely to the highest of highlights... which has also already been done with the OST.

Yeah, she’s been on Giacchino’s team since well before Inside Out: Part One.  She’ll be an acceptable continuation of Giacchino’s soundscape for the original movie.  She wrote the music for the recent Up shorts series, if you want an idea - she’s able to adapt Gia’s stuff and ape his sound.

With most of his former Pixar colleagues jumping ship for Skydance animation, it won't surprise me if MG wanted to follow along, all without burning the bridges. Also his ambitions for filmmaking and all that.
 
In any case, I think this will turn out better in Datzman's hands than if MG were to return. No matter what the film's quality may be like, a composer who is new to the scene is more likely to take advantage of the situation and give it their best than one who's already "seen it all".

That article is interesting, I’m curious what Zimmer tried for Lion King that failed so utterly.

Again: Sorry to hear that he won't be returning, but it was all expected. At least there wasn't any explicit mention in that interview of a falling-out with Scott. I still have a faint hope that the two of them will work together again, as director-composer, before it's too late. MATCHSTICK MEN was a staggering 21 years ago!

Will they go for the Kelly McGillis/Paramount triple and expand Witness?  It's too bad there's not enough John Morris scoring in Dirty Dancing to make a release  viable.

As far as I've ever been able to tell, Williams hasn't gone to that one in years. I've always looked for him and he ain't there. The only pre-Oscar thing that I think he usually goes to is the Society of Composers & Lyricists lunch so I guess that's become his party of choice. 
 
The most recent of the official Oscar luncheons I could spot him in was the 2006 photo when he was nominated for Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich. Standing behind Noah Baumbach and sworn enemy Gustavo Santaolalla.

Crazy that in 2024 we're still getting expansions from the boutique labels without all the music heard in the film.
 
I can't imagine any explanation except the composer wanting that material omitted, for whatever reason.

We know he’s working on TROP, but he mentions things we don’t know about. I can’t imagine what else he would’ve had time to work on!

Yes, I also appreciate that Demon Slayer is scored to-picture unlike so much anime. I just wish the show was good enough to deserve its score!

I think Intrada should offer us a monthly subscription plan so that we can subscribe to 'Inchon'. This way, each year, we could receive the latest edition.
