Bryant Burnette reacted to Sandor in Ecoutez le cinéma John Williams release - The Legend of John Williams 20CD box set
Although the musical is far from being a favorite of mine, I’d say The Question (and its Reprise), Am I Beautiful, Improbable As Spring, Replay The Game and So Many Other Worlds are the highlights.
Sadly, the cast recording just isn’t very good as the vocal performances -though technically fine- reach several levels of pure and utter annoyance.
I would really like the hear the aforementioned songs performed by a different cast. It might change my opinion of Williams’ work.

Not sure if you’re a Trekkie if you can’t tolerate its origins, which are sacred. You have to learn to embrace the aesthetics for the time it was made and realize that even “lesser”’ episodes still have worthwhile interactions between the trio of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Even if the episode doesn’t quite stick the landing, there is always something charming and worthwhile in every episode.
The films 1-6 are just damn good movies, and they collectively do a pretty good job of summing up all the different aspects of the Original Series but for a modern 80s audience. Hard to believe there’s only a decade gap between the visuals and aesthetics of TMP and the Original Series.
I tend to hold Star Trek to a different level of scrutiny than Star Wars. Because it’s so character driven and established with 79 original episodes, I’m willing to give it more rent free space in my head. Star Wars has to work harder to earn my love. Trek is my happy place. I guess I really do adore Gene’s Utopian Future.

Bryant Burnette reacted to GerateWohl in John Williams is the guest on this week's "For Scores" podcast with Jon Burlingame
The term "Nazis" is particularly overused today in an often inappropriatly trivializing way. But I think, there is no doubt about it, that these German guys in 1944 at the beginning of Dial of Destiny are Nazis. So, when use this term if not there?

Bryant Burnette reacted to Yavar Moradi in New Podcast Series: The Complete John Williams Television Music Walkthrough
Wonderful, Thor! Still very much looking forward to your thorough Checkmate coverage as I really like what I've heard from that series, but it's really helpful to have time stamps to skip to for the existing episodes that have been expanded, since I already devoured the original versions of these eps months ago.

Here’s finally the REDUX version of the podcast series, the only one I'll ever do. Took me a while to get around to, but there are so many nuts and bolts.
For those of you who have already listened through the series, I provide time codes below for where the significant additions and changes are.
PART 1:
- Removed some fill words, corrected a few mistakes
- Double checked for more episodes of General Electric Theatre. None found.
- Added an episode-by-episode walkthrough of M Squad, all 8 episodes (21:54)
- Added a suite of incidental music from Bachelor Father (43:59)
PART 2:
- One additional episode of Alcoa Premiere found, “George Gobel Presents” (01:06:13)
PART 3:
- Corrected a couple of mistakes
- Added what is presumably John Williams’ theme for Kraft Mystery Theatre (22:20)
PART 4:
- Added two additional episodes of Chrysler Theatre, “The Game” and “The Admiral” (19:23)
PART 5:
- Double checked for second episode of Convoy. Not found.
- Double checked for more episodes of The Tammy Grimes Show. None found.
- Double checked for CBS Playhouse episode. Not found.
- Added an episode-by-episode walkthrough of Wayne and Shuster Take an Affectionate Look At…, 8 out of 9 episodes found! (24:10)
PART 6:
- Added the “Rodeo” NBC News theme (32:12)
This leaves only the CHECKMATE project, which will be down the line.

Count me in the group of people who last month or so put in my cart ready to order, saw the shipping cost, then decided to wait and see if Amazon was going to sell it with free shipping in August. And then, if Amazon or anywhere else with cheaper shipping didn't, just go ahead and pay for the excessive shipping from Disney Music Emporium. Nowhere did I see "limited" anywhere, and stunned to see it gone. More stunned to find people all as stunned as I was.
Quite frankly, I'm appalled like I see many of you are as well. I don't post very often like I used to and tend to only log in when something big pops up, but those that know me know I'm a John Williams Soundtrack/Score CD completionist and 45+ years of collecting Williams soundtracks and a completionist on JW score CDs for over 30+ years comes to an end... because Disney -- especially in the last decade or so -- seems to be masters at biting the hands that feed them! Zero sense in what they did here.

The liner notes are substantially expanded, according to Jeff Bond. Space was just much more at a premium in the box set booklets.

I may have a problem.
