Agreed. For me, HEATHEN, and REALITY, are two sides of the same coin. I like both.
REALITY contains the sublime BRING ME THE DISCO KING.

Reality is very good and probably the closest thing to a straight rock and roll album that Bowie put out since before Outside.  It's got some catchy songs and good energy, but it doesn't hold a candle to the excellent, moodier and synth-dreamy Heathen, IMO.

I have a real soft spot for the Bowie era from Earthling through Heathen, because while I "discovered" him through Ziggy Stardust, those are the albums he was releasing while I was coming of age.  Besides Ziggy, I probably logged more plays of hours and Heathen than any other Bowie albums in high school.

Changed my vote to Tin Machine 2.

I wonder how Bowie would have felt about all the new releases.  He was never one to shy away from reissues and box sets (and the archival box set thing started before he died) so I'd imagine he wouldn't have cared too extremely much, but it seems like they're releasing 1-2 live albums a year, when before he died he really only had a handful.  Not complaining - I have them all and like them.  Looks like they just released some sort of rarities compilation too.  I usually keep up by asking for them at Christmas.

It was probably the first time I realized the power of film beyond the "fantastical" and "escapsim". The very idea that film is capable of making human stories transcendent.

Most of the time, my colleagues act well, and there is a lot of space for each individual -- depending on which cinema is being used (varies from very small screening rooms at the distributor to using the Cinemateque theatre). It's a 'no-no' to take a seat immediately in front of another critic, for example, and there is almost always at least one seat free on each side. But I've experienced troublesome press screenings too. There was one time, during Asghar Farhadi's THE PAST (a mellow movie), where a young critic behind me decided to eat a couple of CRISP BREADS(!) during the screening. I mentioned this in the podcast we were recording afterwards, and a few weeks later I ran into that same critic at some event. He had heard my complaint in the podcast, and wanted to apologize.

Also, some big films -- like STAR WARS or whatever -- usually has lots more 'press' than usual, so that's more like a regular screening, really.

The extended version, without question. Gives much needed context surrounding the city's rise to the surface at the end; that it's about more than just giving him a "ride".

I would say in combination with perhaps Cache, this movie transformed my world view. I literally felt that I was thinking in a way I hadn't thought before seeing this film. I will never forget the experience of seeing it for the first time. It was in a giant cinema and I emerged absolutely stunned, as if I had been bludgeoned.

This movie represents everything I love about cinema, about storytelling, my approach towards narrative (as a budding screenwriter) and my aesthetic and formal preferences. More importantly it changed my worldview, how I view what is the appropriate course of action to take in life.

The "hello" theme is first heard as the old Mexican man sings, after Flight 19 is found. Finding it in India, confirms what the man is singing. It's then isolated at the conference, that Laçombe and his team has, and is then played on the synthesizer by him, at Goldstone.
The fact that the theme resolves is, probably, due to the singers on the day, and is not meant to be a new set of tones.

It's been a long time since I've heard these, but doesn't ESB have a little quote of the carbon-freeze chamber music, before it segues into DV's theme?

I would like to ask M.M. if he ever had the opportunity to create 5.1 mixes of the soundtracks that he restores, and, if "yes", why are they not available?

    Correct.
All Bond films, from DR. NO  to THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, were remixed in 5.1, especially for the D.V.D. (and subsequent Blu Ray) releases.
From THE SPY WHO LOVED ME onwards, the Bond films were in multichannel, and it is those mixes which were retained for the D.V.D.s/Blu Rays.
Make no mistake: THE SPY WHO LOVED ME is definitely in 5.1
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Officially, the first Bond film released in stereo, at the cinema, was ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, but the first Bond film to be mixed in 5.1 for D.V.D., was THUNDERBALL. This all happened on a previous release, when all other Bond films from DR. NO to THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN retained their original mono mixes. Strange, that, isn't it.

    Excuse me Alex?!
I was not 6 when I watched the Dalton Bonds. I wasn't even 6 when I saw my first Bond film, at the cinema.

Although Dalton will always be my favourite Bond, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, is, IMO, the best all-round Bond film. It's wildly entertaining, and it's clear that, after THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, EON had a rethink about what makes a good Bond film. The switch back to 2.35:1 didn't hurt, either. It's pure spectacle.

IT'S THE BIGGEST IT'S THE BEST IT'S BOND AND BEYOND
