That's such a cool idea not using Williams music in the ad. I would never have thought to do that!

Yes, Ron Howard was sounding out John Williams for Backdraft, and Howard told Williams he was considering Hans. John replied "I really believe in Hans Zimmer"

Which I guess could just mean he believes Hans Zimmer is a real person.

This is the most I've ever used the search function for a Kindle book. Wow, very useful!

Bond. A View to a Kill and Goldeneye, both having anniversaries this year which is apparently a relatively strong factor in which ones are coming out next.

I just finished the book! I've been immersed in it these past few days.

I took a lot of screen shots on my Kindle of paragraphs full of new details - five songs for Cinderella Liberty, 4 or 5 pieces some original and that were recorded to great applause before deciding on Air and Simple Gifts. Lots of unsused Born on the 4th of July. Swashbuckling source cue in Conrad, and I think a 1970s TV theme I've never heard mentioned before.

But to answer Jurassic Shark, I was surprised to learn that Williams listened to more temp scores than I had imagined, and he generally seemed warm to them. He said nothing negative about temp scores per se, mostly I got the impression that anything a director says or does gives Williams ideas on how to proceed or raises questions that lead to deeper understanding. Everything is a learning opportunity.

Other thoughts/shocks - no funeral for Barbara. Wow. That was a shock, and then to read about the elegy for cello and how that helped the mother of the murdered kids to heal as much as is possible from such a loss. In some ways, grief is a theme that runs through much of the book.

I thought it was odd that very early on it was mentioned that his current wife lives in a different home. It seemed to come out of nowhere, and then it wasn't explained further until near the end. His 80th birthday, oach. But it seems like they are on good terms and still close. I loved the quote by his daugher about the second marriage: "My dad isn't sad anymore".

And one sentence/quote choked me up "My whole life would have been hers", refering to Barbara. It's surreal/sad to think the most important person in his life never heard Jaws and all the followed.

And I enjoyed the JWfan references at the end!

Two Williams connections, and a James Newton Howard connection.

Tim's next book is Toto: A Rock Band's Life

I helped him with the title. He wanted to call it Toto: Their Adventures on Earth.

Was the mention of scoring sessions taking place this week true? I just skimmed this thread, and I have no idea what's going on. Plus it's is tax day for Australians, my brain is fried.

Yes, Mark Graham himself confirmed that the recording sessions for Maestro John Williams' score to Steven Spielberg's upcoming film are taking place.

@bruce marshall and @Tom's posts were simply jokes.

The post is from Mark Graham's Instagram (THE Mark Graham of Joann Kane Music Service). The stamps are for John Williams, Ramiro Belgardt, Shawn Murphy, Bill Ross, and Mark Graham. I love his posted message: "Fun day." It's all great.

Just cause no one's given you a straight answer, recording sessions do seem to be happening based on this, which was a real Instagram story from Mark Graham of Joann Kane Music Service and shows stamps for presumably John Williams, Ramiro Belgardt, Shawn Murphy, Bill Ross, and Mark Graham.

Yes, a serious statement was made here which cannot be verified, so make of it what you will. My gut feeling agrees that it's plausible.

Felt very lucky to have front row centre seats to this wonderful concert on Monday. It was a great evening, the programme was just perfect. I had just a couple of gripes - Simone and Sara were fabulous, they really locked into each other throughout the entire evening (Simone's piano playing was just astonishing - beautiful touch). Cecilia played well, but it felt like she didn't listen to the piano as much as Sara. Maybe she's used to movie scoring sessions where there's no budge in the tempo and the beat trundles on relentlessly. I felt that Simone was really keen to approach this as a chamber concert (which is exactly what it was obviously!) with more rubato and spontaneous expression than you'd get with an orchestra. The faster moments were sometimes a little hairy - Jane Eyre especially got dangerously close to derailing at one point. My other distraction was the constant moving video wall behind them - so unnecessary. We had the title of the piece for about 5 seconds each time, followed by these quick montages of scenes from the films (mostly scenes unrelated to the music that was playing, I might add). We had star fields in Star Wars, flames during Witches Of Eastwick, and even fake snow on the screen for Schindler's List. The lowest point was probably during Han Solo & the Princess where we were presented with overlaid images of them both, then during the build up in the music the 2 faces moved towards each other. It was just a bit difficult to ignore as the screen was really big, and the music was so nice it didn't need anything. Anyway, 2 gripes aside, it was a fantastic evening, and Simone Pedroni playing The Fablemans is quite possibly the most stunning thing I've heard in a long time.
