I'm another who hears Williams fine craftmanship and sensibilities all over this. And since I play a little guitar - well, a normal sized guitar a little - I especially like to hear Williams writing for guitar. I certainly have a softspot for Taking Pictures and The Days Between arrangement which features more guitar. In my mind, they're up there with Williams most beautiful pieces. I hope Williams writes a guitar concerto one day. A nice one like Elmer Bernstein's - not a weird one!

Actually, I'm not real familair with his horror scores. I think I listened to parts of a few and thought "too scary!" I'll explore more one day when I have more courage.

But I have some favorites. Number one being The Tower, released by Intrada about 100 years ago with a bonus initial release of The Core as a gift from Chris, namely the last track Coeur Hanté - Haunted Heart. It's a total gem. I love The Core too. And some of the dramatic scores listed above.

The Big Kahuna is another faviorite. And The Man Who Knew Too Little - I only have the main theme from one of Varese's anniversary sets.

More dramatic goodness: An Unfinished Life Piano Sketches and To Spain With Love, a concept album, and sorry, but I edited out all the non-musical elements - musicians commenting or laughing if memory serves. I don't need that^

I visit here for this sort of quality content.

There is one bit of unreleased music from Stepmom which really struck me when I saw the film many years ago.  I swear that Williams briefly references the theme from The Towering Inferno in a shot when the camera pans over the World Trade Center.  The film was released in 1998.

He wrote a wonderful little solo piece for the Christopher Parkening Prize, "Rounds", premiered by Pablo Villegas. The piece's score was published and Villegas also recorded it.

Saw this random video of a guy playing on top of interstellar. Look at the difference in the way it sounds with some decent piano playing on top

Although a rarity, from time to time, JW has written music to score the trailer to films he's worked on. Other times, his music for the film is used in the trailer for said film. What do you consider to be the best and worst of the bunch?

Not at all a hot take, the best has to be the HP1 teaser trailer:

For me, runner up would be Nixon, the music truly does capture "the turbulent years":

What are your picks? Which are the worst?

You are free to pledge any amount of money at or above your selected pledge level. I haven't checked, but I'm sure you can also lower your pledge level while the campaign is running. If you've currently backed at a physical level, but don't actually want a physical CD, I imagine you can lower your pledge level to a digital tier and leave your pledge amount as it is.

Personally, I selected the $50 level with my name in the booklet, not because my name is worth the extra $20 to me but because I figured the campaign needs the money.

A friend took me to a bar just outside of Seoul last night - we had both never been there before. Wow, a wall full of soundtrack CDs! A shame the owner wasn't there - I would have liked to have talked to him or her!

pete reacted to Jay in NEW book by Frank Lehman - The Skywalker Symphonies: Musical Storytelling in Star Wars
The happy news I cryptically alluded to last week is now something I can make official: I just signed a book contract with OUP for 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘬𝘺𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴: 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘴!   It's a book it feels like I've been writing in my head for a long, long time -- since middle school, kinda? And unless Williams somehow returns to write another entry in the series, I'm treating it a chance to provide a properly 𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤 investigation into these scores, all nine of them.   Even Rise of Skywalker?? 𝘌𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 Rise of Skywalker!   My hope is this book does some justice to the complexity, challenge, and sheer magic of this music.   Now, back to the grindstone!   https://www.facebook.com/Falstaft/posts/pfbid0L6wUjeDDxj6AmhwHh1f9obrVMJfYbPx4GJM8YaEWiZtqxwp37A88monPFVDxBQ26l

It must be Mod - short for moderato, an indication of the tempo.  Either that or Moo - to play the music as if you were a cow.
