Weird title. Too weird.

Although, nothing they come up with probably won't live up to Casino Royale, which was a great title.

I'm not a Bond fan, either. Haven't seen a single one the whole way through.

But this title is clever, even as just a metaphor. "Quantum of Solace" is synonomous with "Tiny Piece of Peace," which is interesting if only for its homophonic nature.

Mr. Bond just doesn't strike me as an awfully peaceful fellow. Maybe it's a double entendre directed toward his two leading ladies.

I love it, a nice Ian Fleming title. And its Quantum of Solace because he is trying to find peace after the last film where...

Spoilers (I guess)

His girlfriend drowned herself after betraying him.

I like the title, let's hope they don't dumb it down for the American audience.

It's not another 'another golden tomorrow only dies twice' title, which is nice.

But it's funny to see how many Bond-fanboys who usually complain about everything now can't complain because it's an "original" Fleming title.

I think the worst bond title so far is Die Another Day. It doesn't tell me anything at all about the film's plot, except that Bond won't be dying this time either (there's a shocker). Also the worst one I've ever seen, with the most preposterous (IMO) action sequence: surfing on the melted glacier.

Die Another Day is indeed a terrible film, but not as boring as A View to a Kill. That's still the worst one IMO.

I think the battle for last place is between A View to a Kill, Live and Let Die and The Living Daylights.

The Living Daylights is perfectly OK - not great, but good, with a strong performance from Dalton. Certainly not among the worst of the series, though it's a bit forgettable.

The Living Daylights? Really?

Yes. Bland villian, unengaging Bond, moments of incredible stupidity (even by dumb action movie standards) and the worst and most boring Bond girl ever in D'Arbo.

Live and Let Die, and The Living Daylights have no place in that battle. Far worse than either of those are Die Another Day, The World is Not Enough, The Man With the Golden Gun, and (dare I say it?) Diamonds Are Forever. My order of worst Bonds (with the worst at the bottom) is:

Diamonds Are Forever

The World Is Not Enough

The Man With the Golden Gun

A View to a Kill

Die Another Day

Octopussy would be the next one up. It has some marvellous scenes (especially the fantastic opening scene of the twin knife-throwers chasing the man in the clown suit through the woods, which is almost Hitchcockian in its perversity!) , but far too much silly slapstick.

The Living Daylights I actually find to be a very good Bond film, although not as good as Licence to Kill, which is one of the best IMO. It always amazes me that even now there are critics who hate that film. I can understand how at the time of the film's original release people found it too dark and dangerous-looking for a Bond, but now? Of all the 70s and 80s Bonds I think it is the one that stands the test of time the best.

The World Is Not Enough is a fabulous Bond film, shame on you Pixie!

None of the Bond films are truly awful (even DAD has it's good points), but the weak ending, coupled with Pierce Brosnan's bored, grunting performance puts TWINE near the bottom of the pile for me. If only Brosnan's Bond had some of the charisma that his character in Matador had. Now THERE's a great film!

Fleming? The Discoverer of Penicilline? ;)

:)

Here in Sydney (not sure if anywhere else in the wonderful Land of Oz) we have a window tinting company called Solace, but pronounced Sol-Ace. Maybe this new film is all about Bond moonlighting as a debt collector for persons who haven't paid the quantum on their window tinting accounts? :|

And according to the Aus edition of Empire magazine apparently Daniel Craig is willing to do a full-frontal nude shot, which piques my curiosity as to what form of torture will be inflicted on him this time... Maybe it'll be done a la Beowulf (snigger).

That quote from Craig is from ages ago (before Casino Royale, I think). And he was talking generally, not about any specific film.

Thanks for clarifying that! ;)

I s'pose he was nude enough for Casino Royale :|

Shame on you for thinking it is a fabulous Bond film. It does have some good points but the bad far outweighs the good.

The bad in no particular order....

Unmotivated action photography

An electronic heavy score that heavily disappoints after Arnold's good effort in TND

Terrible one-liners

Bond in love with Electra for no real reason

Renard not used to full potential

Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist in short-shorts and a tank top?

That is all I can think of at the moment.

And whose name is "Christmas"....

....'nuff said!

TWINE is really not a very good bond film....not particularly BAD, just not very good either.

Odd that they left off the title, although I can understand going for simplicity. It does get across its message well, showing Bond just as we left him, but now on the road to revenge.

I think I like it.

Extremely cool. Going head to head with the new Harry Potter movie in November. Will Bond survive the evil sorcery of the bespectacled one???

There's a two week difference between release of the two movies. Plenty of time for both to do well. Unlike the rest of the world, Casino Royale was never #1 at the box office here in the US (stupid Happy Feet) yet did very well at the box office. Bond will have his two weeks of glory, then Potter will.

Bond starts two weeks before so it will avoid the evil eye of Voldemort.

I don't know, Potter has some pretty stiff competition this year, more so than the other films in the series (I believe).

but not for the year, Im hoping Indy will be

It would be nice but with the exception of Raiders none of the other 2 Indy films grossed over 200 million domestically, nor were they the top movies that year.

TOD finished 2nd that year to Beverly Hills Cop, & Ghostbusters, with 179.8M, Gremlins was 4th btw, and LC finished behind Batman with 197.1M. Those are huge numbers for the 80's. IJKOTCS will be huge
