Popular Post Jay 37,373
Just saw this much better way things could have unfolded, on reddit Quote Move [The death of Rhaegal] in S8E4 to S8E5 and there's a big improvement in the story...Instead of having him die in S8E4, have him die during the siege of KL. Have the bells ring (signalling that the city surrenders), then have someone go rogue on Cersei's side to take a shot at Rhaegal and kill him, sending Dany into a rampage that destroys the city. (The trigger man can be Euron, Strickland, or maybe some Lannister soldier). Of course you have to have some way for Jon to survive this (I would presume he would have been riding Rhaegal), and you also have to have both dragons survive the surprise attack from the Iron Fleet in S8E4, but it certainly fixes the problem of how the "Scorpions are accurate only when the plot demands them to be". It might even make the "Dany is the Mad Queen" thing more believable. Quote Or you can have a scene where Dany forbids Jon from flying Rhaegal because she does not trust him anymore... Quote Daenerys loses trust in all her advisors and allies and so decides to attack with just her dragons, the Unsullied, and Dothraki. Jon arrives with the Northern rearguard to find the city being pillaged and shocked at what he sees, Jon orders the Northmen to put an end to the pillaging which ends up with the Northerners fighting Danny's army in the streets. Right around this time Danny loses a dragon and burns the Red Keep in retaliation, where Jaime just killed Cersei, the flames envelop him as he sits there weeping at his sister's corpse. Then Danny sees the Northerners attacking her men and believes herself betrayed by Jon and this on top of everything else finally causes her to snap and burn the city down Quote If they had played it so that the bells were ringing and Euron took out Rhaegal (this would assume some of the Iron Fleet survived) and with the rest of your take here, we could have panned from Jon fighting her troops (possibly fighting with Greyworm), to her dragon screaming, to the bells, that could have been the perfect descent into madness moment that would make the scene make sense. The fact that the bells would be signifying the death of one Queen (Cersei), the era of a new (mad) Queen, and would be intermixed with the screams of the townspeople and the screams of her dying child (Rhaegal)... god it would have been perfect. https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/bo0b4c/spoilers_extended_move_one_death_in_s8e4_to_s8e5/ toothless, Yavar Moradi and Holko 2
Yavar Moradi 2,603
1 hour ago, Stefancos said: Its not that it caught me at unawares, its that it didn't. Compare it to Breaking Bad, when you suddenly realize Walt is a monster. And that happened at different times for most. The change is subtle, gradual. With Daenerys its not, and you're not the one who suddenly realises the change, its forced upon you by the showrunners. It was *almost* (though not quite) as bad as Anakin Fuckin' Skywalker in the strangely-overrated shitfest called Revenge of the Sith. But more frustrating because she was a character who grew over the course of seven seasons and we really cared about. They needed 20 episodes these last couple seasons to really pull off a believable gradual turn, but they wanted to shock people instead I guess so it just felt stupid and poorly handled. Walter White or Londo Mollari this was not. Yavar Holko

Alex 2,835
Weird how we’ll never see Cersei and Jaime again. That’s it. Finito. It’s a pretty crushing (no pun intended) and disappointing end to 7 and a bit seasons of character development. Of course we’re not entitled to a satisfying conclusion but I feel a bit short changed by that decision. The episode did not feel like the penultimate one. God knows how they’re going to wrap up everything next week, but I’m sure whatever they do will leave a lot of people pissed. Jay 37,373
Yes there seems to still be a considerable amount of characters and storylines left to wrap up next week. I'm surprised it's only 80 minutes.

Alex 2,835
I know they’ve got to balance a large cast of characters, but having Cersei and Sansa-less episodes (especially in the final season) really is bizarre to me.

Jay 37,373
From what I understand, they filmed multiple different endings, so there is so such thing as an actual leak for the ending of the show, as any extras or people who spied on the sets wouldn't know which ending was real. There are no leaks from the finished, edited episodes, the leaks are from any outdoor filming that had to take place. From what I understand. bollemanneke
Holko 9,531
Yeah that comes feom an Emilia outburst 2 years ago. John Bradley recently said he doesn't think it's right - so much money and time goes into every frame that filming multiple scenes with the intention being notto include them from the start is a huge wast of materials that could make the actual stuff better. I'd say onset misdirection might be much more feasible, calling armies of extras to stand around amd look busy, calling an actor on an off day to watch the set but not actually be onscreen. Holko 9,531
Yeah, all the way through I was thinking this is beautiful, if only the motive, consistency and characters were properly there to support it. Thor 7,520
Yes, I've noticed that the episode has received some criticism for those aspect (motives, characters, plot etc.), but I didn't notice anything that I didn't find totally justifiable and well-written.
