Naïve Old Fart 9,534
Geez. Yeah, you're right, Jay. Sorry. SKYFALL just seems to go in one eye, says "Sod this, for a game of soldiers", turns around, and goes out the way it came in. There are good set-pieces, but, as a whole, the film makes no impression on me, at all. Edmilson

SteveMc 2,674
The start of the trailer feels like some kind of fan made parody/tribute thing. Gets all confused and messy after that. A few things are clear: the plot will be complicated, the approach will still be the kind of slick artsy one, Ana de Armas is stunning, and Craig is too old for this already. Sweeping Strings 2,363
Bond is at least still a heterosexual white man who loves his country and kills in its defence, probably drinks too much, has a sardonic sense of humour and any stability in his personal life is usually short-lived. And thank Christ for that. DarthDementous and gkgyver 1
gkgyver 1,645
"The world has moved on, commander Bond" Why is almost every Craig movie so on the nose with trying to make Bond old and washed up? Why can't it be a straight mission by MI6? Why does there always have to be a detour? These movies feel like the producers don't trust the traditional Bond formula at all anymore. Popular Post Sweeping Strings 2,363
I can only surmise the 'unseen' missions between Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall REALLY took their toll on Bond, because he goes from being a 'freshly minted' 00 agent in QOS to people hinting that he's 'past it' in Skyfall . Maybe the point is that he always proves them wrong? Edmilson, Unlucky Bastard and Arpy

Edmilson 7,465
Some people do age a lot. I, for instance, went from being a 13-year-old boy that liked to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and FIFA all day on the computer on 2006 to a college freshman getting in troubles with girls on 2012 to a guy with a job on digital marketing and lots of responsabilities and stuff to pay on 2019. But I dunno if that's the same case for Bond, lol.
Disco Stu 15,495
In 2006 I had just dropped out of college and was smoking way too much weed. Edmilson 7,465
Indeed. Pretty much every movie of the Craig era the mission have to be "personal" for him. He and the bad guy have to be connected by something of the past, that is coming back to haunt him, yada yada... It's so simple: there's a bad guy with a plan that will be terrible to lots of people, so Bond has to travel to exotic locations all over the world, fight henchmen and thwart the villain's megalomaniacal plan. But I guess Austin Powers made this formula looks a little ridiculous, so now they have to make everything "dark, realistic and relatable". It's like DC: after Chris Nolan, every DC movie has to dark, grim, realistic, relatable and disturbing, even though they are about a dude who dresses like a Bat and fights a psycho with clown make-up and an alien who can fly, shoot lasers and wears a blue uniform. #MakeBondandDCfunagain crumbs

Casino Royale was more inside the formula (Bond receives a mission and sets out to defeat a villain) until Le Chiffre is arrested and Bond decides to retire (?!?) with Vesper. But then he finds out Vesper was betraying him, she dies, and the whole series became about revenge since then. But I dunno, I guess this is a tendency on Hollywood blockbusters these days. Just look at Marvel, almost every supervillain is somehow connected to the heroes. Loki, Ultron, Ego, Killmonger, Ronan, Vulture, Mysterio, even Thanos. And DC is no different, with Zod and Ocean Master. These days every villain must have a personal connection with the hero so to make everything relatable.
