A few years ago, I selected 144 essential albums in my life (a challenge given to me by someone else), and even that was a tricky limitation. Can be viewed in this thread over on FSM. However, if someone put a gun to my head, then maybe these at the present time: Supertramp - Even in the Quietest Moments John Williams - Jurassic Park Hans Zimmer - Beyond Rangoon Vangelis - Oceanic Jean Michel Jarre - Houston/Lyon But that hurt. Had to omit several essential albums by artists to which I have a completist relationship, even. My first exposure to it was the Lost In Space Learning Adventure CD-ROM game. That CD-ROM might've been the reason why this score felt like a whole galaxy for me to explore when I was a kid! The game's soundtrack consisted of small samples of music taken from the film's recording sessions, including Decades Old, Pt.2 with a clean opening, and a small loop taken from Major Mayhem! I dunno, sometimes I'm in the mood for a horror score and sometimes for something completely different, maybe more romantic or atmospheric. Which is why I need to have at my disposition a wide variety of music, capable of answering my very timely needs. Even from one composer to another my musical needs sometimes change. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Braveheart or The Rocketeer or whatever and other times I can't stand those scores and I need Aliens. Sometimes I want something kick-ass as Visitor in San Diego, dark choir like Anakin's Dark Deeds, emotional and cathartic like Gryffindor Wins the House Cup, romantic and peaceful like Ann and Gabriel or The Family Farm, etc. But if I had to choose just 5 albums to live for rest of what would be a pitiful life, then I think I'd choose something more nice and wholesome: Water for Elephants - James Newton Howard (FYC version, which is chronological, has better listening experience and ommits the period songs); The Horse Whisperer - Thomas Newman (though I'd have a pretty hard time deciding between this and The Shawshank Redemption); Legends of the Fall - James Horner (the complete score, whether it's the LLL or the bootleg); Dances with Wolves - John Barry (2015 25th anniversary edition); The Light Between the Oceans - Alexandre Desplat Problem is, as much as I love those scores, eventually I'd grow tired of only having them to listen to. And I'd miss the other wonderful scores or non-film score music that I would never be able to listen to. So I'd probably kill myself in despair after another failed attempt to remember The Last Samurai, The Lord of the Rings, Apollo 13, Indiana Jones trilogy etc. Andy, JTN and Schilkeman 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm going to pretend that my first option is a 2-CD 'box set' so to speak. If we're going with the idea that soundtrack box sets with multiple scores could be allowed, then I think I should be allowed this. If I'm not then Jurassic would have to go. I just love the other two scores more. But not actual albums though, mostly Spotify playlists or online radio stations. So I do have a lot of songs that I love and I can't see myself spending a lifetime without listening to them again. They're mostly songs that remind me of aspects of my life, kinda like it was my own soundtrack to the soap opera that is my life (lol).
