...there shall, in that time, be *rumors* of things going astray, errrm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things wi - with the sort of raffia work base that has an attachment. At this time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock. Yea, it is written in the book of Cyril that...

The initial screen says "Sorry, we're temporarily out of this item. We'll ship it as soon as it's restocked", but you can add it to your cart and complete the order. The item in your cart will say "This item is out of stock. We'll ship it as soon as it's restocked."

So I guess they decided to print more.

    Good on them!

    "Dear Disney Music Emporium,
A few admiring fans seek signed copies of my latest CD.  I'd therefore be grateful if you could ship a few copies to me as soon as possible.
    Salutations,
    John Williams"

    "Dear John,
We apologize for the inconvenience, the CD was a limited run and has sold out.
It is still available on LP but we'll have to limit you to two copies so that everyone can get to enjoy the magic.
    Cheers,
    Disney Music Emporium"

    I have Twitter, oops "X", I mean.

But I'm considering writing to John Williams directly – a genuine letter with an envelope, a stamp, and a hint of my perfume, Kouros by Yves St-Laurent.

Dear John Williams, yes, that's me the famous "Bespin". Do you know my discography... euh I mean, your discography? Anyway, can you send me a signed copy of your latest CD (if you can find one, haha!). Thanks!

Streaming is also sometimes just not even available. You buy a DVD/bluray/4k, you have a player or software to play it, you put it in, the movie's there and plays (for the couple of decades until the disc physically works at least).

As far as I know for movies there's no widespread equivalent to digital music downloads whatsoever, you can't buy the latest mainstream moves as a 1080p/4k mp4 download where you get a file to keep forever like you can buy CD quality FLACs where you receive the exact same data as would be on a CD. With streaming you're completely dependant on the momentary whims of the rights situations between megacorporations, you now have to spend time figuring out what service you can watch them on, if you even can at the moment, if you even can at all, if that service is even available in your region, if that content is even available on that service in your region, maybe one day the owner at the moment decides to start censoring movies that don't represent their current ideology (which is mostly bullshit anyway, they all have the same 100% profitgrowth-oriented corporate hypercapitalist ideology), replacing old good restoration with new worse ones, or just make it unavailable to watch.

Disney have not merely dropped the ball on this one, they have dropped the ball, stomped on it until it burst and deflated, and then pretended there never was a ball.

    They made 4 major mistakes

1 - limiting the amount of CDs pressed to a much smaller number than the actual demand for a CD edition
2 - not making it clear that the edition sold on their website was limited to begin with, and not unlimited
3 - not making it clear that their website would be the only place it could be purchased
4 - not deciding to press more once it became abundantly clear there's a demand for many more copies than they initially pressed

It's too late to do anything about 1-3, but they could easily do 4 if they wanted to.

And every day that goes by without an announcement of a repressing makes it less likely it will ever get one, I think.

Not me. At home, I almost always listen to music from CDs. Sometimes Spotify Premium - mainly new stuff I want to check. And let people say what they want, CDs sound better than streaming on my audio system.

I wasn't sure if I had ordered it- I thought I had when it first went on sale, yet when I looked because it ended up being sold out,  I couldn't find any email confirmation..and then I went and sent a polite but irritated email to Disney about not being able to buy it.  Oh well!

Love Hooper's work. I can recommend his nature documentary scores. Sadly they're not narrative in the way that the HP scores are but there's beautiful music there.

I don't know if I'd even agree with the list of who you are saying had sizzling careers then blew out.  Just because they aren't scoring the blockbusters doesn't mean they blew out.  The composers you mentioned are all in fact very successful.  Honestly the answer comes down to a simple detail that to be scoring big blockbusters, you have to be a very good businessman and have that networking, socializing temperament.  Many composers don't really care for that and would rather be selective and picky but do projects that resonate with them artistically and sacrifice some income to gain more creative freedom and some form of a life.  Some of those you mentioned were former employers or teachers of mine and they are doing very well, just might not be in the sort of projects you care about or that catapult them to A list territory.

Well, some of the big names are still getting regular, high profile gigs. Gudnadottir, Dudley, Portman, Levi, Kanno, Focks etc. Then there are a whole bunch of up-and-coming, like the hugely talented Amelia Warner, Heather Christian or Drum & Lace. But some women have been fairly absent since their glory days. I think Karpman is still doing stuff (I seem to remember a recent series), but not like she used to. Perhaps because she's busy leading that women composer organization. Karaindrou too, but then I read in that other thread she's attached to the new Malick project. That's a huge comeback. Jane Antonia Cornish blasted on to the scene some 20 years ago, but I haven't heard much from her since. Kate Havnevik is a hugely talented composer from Norway that I wish got more high profile gigs, also abroad.

Deborah Lurie is one I know that has had a major career fall, but that's her own doing, due to political reasons that are forbidden to talk about here.
