The only reason that's an issue is that he's the boss now; he's always worked for others, but now he should be calling the shots. (That being said, this particular problem didn't stand out that much for me. More concerning was my inability to understand why he was doing...well, most of the stuff he did.)

While I haven't used those words, I'll say that my overall view of the show was more optimistic while there were still more episodes to go. I still had some hope that it would all somehow come together in a really great way. For me, that didn't end up happening. In retrospect the show feels like a hodgepodge of quasi-related elements, some of which were pretty cool but none of which involved a character recognizable as Boba Fett. I still have no idea why he miraculously transformed from a disintegration-prone bounty hunter and Imperial collaborator into a benevolent protector of the planet where one of his old bosses was headquartered. He emerged from the sarlacc as a changed man, which would be totally cool if they'd connected the dots in a way that made sense. For me they didn't.

The more I think about it, the more unimpressed with this show I am. It's no Mando. Except...you know...when it's Mando.

Not so for me; I totally bought into the continuations of Han, Luke, and Leia's stories, and I also really liked Rey, at least in TFA. It's just that each film in that trilogy tries to pull things in a different direction, and the whole thing comes apart as a result.

I would have been totally cool with Boba's character ending up the way he did if the journey made sense. But this series presents him as a totally different guy from the moment he emerges from the sarlacc. For all the series' other flaws, that's the one that's really irritating me now.

Solo was meh-er for me. This had good moments, but it was overall more frustrating than Solo. I still don't feel like the real Bona Fett ever made an appearance in the show.

Hard to think of a god-awful score to an incredible film. Not so hard to think of unimpressive scores to enjoyable films. A lot of Marvel stuff sits in that category for me. But yeah, if a film is truly excellent, it does tend to soften any bad feelings I have about the music, much like how an excellent score can be a significant redeeming quality in a not-so-great film.

One score that might fit the bill would be The Prestige. I will never listen to that score outside of the film. But I like the film enough not to care.

I don't find anything particularly surprising about these statements. CDs have been on a slow decline for some time. I can freely admit this, even though I still prefer to buy some stuff on CD. The majority of people in my circles are gravitating toward streaming. I prefer to curate my own high-quality collection of cherished music. The equation could change if my tastes were more mainstream, if I weren't too cheap for unlimited mobile data, or if I didn't care so much about compression.

The more I think about it, the more this series seems like a surprise season of Mando. It's even kind of in the title. Each episode is a chapter, so each season would be a book...and this book happens to be one that more heavily features Boba at first. Not really complaining; it's an interesting approach. I just wish everything before Mando returned had been...better.

For this episode, I agree that Luke looked a lot better than he did in his Mando cameo. This time around, it was the vocal "performance" (presumably a digital concoction like last time) that felt off more than anything. ROTJ Luke is stilted, but not that stilted.

I'm not a CW fan, but bringing in Cad Bane was smart. I wish they'd done it earlier on; he's a much more compelling baddie than the rather silly-looking Pyke Syndicate folks.

None. I'm probably the closest I've ever been to being interested in subscribing to one of them; I've been feeling the urge to try more music outside the world of film scores. But so far I've been assuaging that desire with album purchases.

Yeah, there's a fine line between offering a few fun references to the past and hitting us over the head with a new one at every turn. For all their flaws, the prequels weren't this tethered to the franchise's glory days.

Sad to say I largely agree. I'll continue watching; each episode has had at least one or two elements I like. But I can't really reconcile the Boba in this show with the one in the OT. Or AOTC, for that matter.

In a weird way, even though this show is indeed running on the fumes of The Mandalorian, it's also kind of at a disadvantage as a result. Mando is initially characterized exactly as you might expect Boba to be: a focused, efficient, faceless, not-too-talkative badass who gets the job done so he can get paid. Obviously a big part of that show is his development beyond being a proxy for Boba Fett. So...what do you do with a show that's actually about the real Boba? It would have been more gutsy to have his sarlacc experience harden him into a truly fearsome baddie. But I don't know where that would have gone.

If you want a "best of both worlds" fix, Something Wicked Intro can actually segue nicely to the start of the full song. You just have to chop off the end of the intro, which obviously was written to overlap the middle of the song.

A half-step sharp/flat? I've done that many times in my life. It would actually stand out immediately as a wrong note. Maybe you mean a cent sharp/flat? Noticing that would be far more superhuman. Except even then, literally the whole point is for the oboe to establish the tuning for the rest of the orchestra. So the conductor wouldn't even need to tell everyone to adjust their pitch to match the oboe; that's what they always do.

In any case, it's cool that your cousin was on the radio. Might want to check with him to make sure you get the story right, though.

The majority of musicians (myself included) don't have it. You tune with a tuner or by tuning to another player. You learn the correlations between the written notes and the fingerings/keys/strings/embouchure for your instrument. Or if you're playing by ear, you learn to hear the relationships between notes, whether played sequentially or simultaneously. I can't usually* tell you what note I'm hearing right off the bat, but I can tell you the interval between it and any other note I hear. Relative pitch is widely considered much more learnable than absolute.

    * Sometimes an isolated note will remind me of a particular note I've previously identified in a piece I know well, and that'll clue me in.
