Thank you so much! At it's heart, this is a fan project of my highest attempt!
I just wanted to be more formal as I'm new to this forum. I've been respectfully reading it for years.
It was done by me! The originator of this project. Sorry if it came off as impersonal.
    See above...
Yes! And thanks Rick, for your willingness to support something, which on the surface, may seem weird, but if you dig deeper, is yet another example of a serious artist's work, in honor of JW.
    If you look here: https://jimnova.com/about/

You'll hear about my history with JW.

I sent him a recording of my Superman recording:

and JW sent me this letter:

I agree with you that much of the less prominent pieces JW wrote, are quite potent and powerful to the narrative.

I hope you all enjoy this project!

Please let me know your thoughts and of course I understand some may not approve of this. I hope you all view it in the lens it was viewed and recorded: as a musician who loves JW's artistry and even though I play in a major orchestra, I wish I could play his music much more often than I do!

This recording just feels more alive than TFA to me. TFA sounded dark and this feels more open. I really like the TFA score, but just the recording feels so much different. I'm sorry if I'm not articulating well, but that's what I'm hearing.

Got a new receiver that plays all kinds of media files.  Downloaded this from HDTracks.  Whew boy, this music cooks.  The separation and depth is nothing short of astounding.  Especially for the Battle of Crait section featuring the TIE Fighter attack music, absolutely killer.  Every instrument comes through so clearly!  I can't recall a non specialty label JW release  that sounded this good since the Ultimate Edition of Phantom Menace.

    Daisy, Daisy
Planted one day by a glancing dart
    Planted by Daisy Bell

Xinau reacted to Seth in Underrated elements of Williams' work?
Hopefully this won't get lost in all the back-and-forth of the impending release of The Last Jedi, but I was hoping to start a discussion of aspects of Williams' work and approach that might be underrated or not discussed as much as maybe they warrant. The topic was inspired while I was re-watching the Star Wars prequels and noticed his approach to the dialogue scenes. I don't have any other strong examples of his dialogue underscoring close at hand, but his approach to the more talky scenes of these films struck me as unusually strong. One of the ones that stood out most (and always has) is the scene in Attack of the Clones where Anakin is finding out from the Lars family what has happened to his mother. The score, based on arpeggios in the strings that don't fully resolve harmonically, adds so much tension and a sense of dread that the dialogue and acting just aren't creating. His string voicings there are impeccable too, pitched in just the right range to work with the voice ranges of the actors without causing conflict. Revenge of the Sith is rife with smart dialogue underscore too, especially in nearly any scene involving Anakin and Palpatine before Anakin's fall, and the same applies to scenes of Anakin and Obi-Wan before their split. I also think his handling of the scene where Obi-Wan confronts Padme about Anakin's turn was handled just right, not overbearing melodically and with harmonic resolution coming at just the right point. The writing and acting in these films don't really generate any sense of tragedy or tension or drama, but the music does what everything else fails to do, mostly without resorting to histrionics to do it.

I really don't mean for this thread to turn into fanboy-ish gushing, but hope it turns into a good discussion of things Williams does that we just don't talk about that much or that we think of as underappreciated.

It's not an unjustified opinion to consider the TFA score disappointing as it appears in the film. Not only were some of the score highlights deleted from the film, but the score itself was treated poorly in the mix (rendering a lot of the score's finer details inaudible). Not to mention all the microedits which do the score no favours.

So, I am bored tonight and looked at SWNN.  the main guy over there vouched for the following, non-spoiler review.  I place it here for the score reference:

"Wow, that was a lot to digest. Some initial impressions

Don't worry guys. IMO It was incredible. Never had 2 and a half hours fly by so quickly. Probably won't come as a surprise when I say its darker and more serious compared with TFA. TFA also moved at a brisk pace while TLJ almost takes its time, but definitely wouldn't say its slow. That soundtrack! Also its a very nice looking movie, loved the vfx as usual.

Also you may have to give TFA a rewatch before seeing this. Now gotta wait for Episode 9, ffs."

I'm taking a hiatus from JWFan and internet browsing in general until release.  I started 3 days ago.

I'd hardly call a leak lucky.  It was especially shitty for TFA as the intial negativity decreased my excitement for the film and score and all of the youtube leaks were low quality half-tempo rips.

I was at Celebration Orlando this year, and at the end of the 40th Anniversary Panel, I heard George say something to others on the stage -- I don't think he was directing this at the audience, but I'm not sure -- "if you wanna know the secret sauce to Star Wars, there it is". And he motioned towards JW, who was off to the side, taking his bows after conducting Princess Leia's theme and the Imperial March.
