I've searched but didn't find anything.

I figured someone here would know.

It sold 500,000 tickets here in France in the first 24 hours; which is quite impressive. I think only Deathly Hallows Part 2 did better on its opening day this year.

Great news! :) I am very happy for Spielberg and team for this initial success.

Yeah Spielberg is still very reasonable as far as budgets go. Maybe not counting employing Tom Cruise, who probably took 1/4 of the budget of Minority Report. KOTCS was more expensive only because they shot so much of it practically with large sets (not that it looks this way).

I believe Cruise, Ford, and Hanks all get percentage of the gross.

Whilst not being a resounding smash hit, Tintin will still turn a tidy profit during its theatrical run. And then there's the riches of Blu. It's safe to say we'll see the two planned sequels go into production, and maybe more after that...

Well, The Smurfs has grossed 415 overseas so far.

Tintin vs Smurfs market comparison (at similar points of time)

UK : $16.4M / $12.7M

France: $39.8M / $12.3M

Spain: $18.1M / $8.6M

Germany: $10.5M / $14.2M

Italy: $4.1M / $8.3M

Beligium: $6.1M / $4.8M

Sweden: $6.9M / $2.1M

Denmark: $3.6M / $2.0M

Russia: $5.9M / $4.3M

Total(in these markets): 112M / 69.3M

The Smurfs only grossed 3 million in Japan, where Spielberg normally has big grosses (Indy 4: 53 million, WOTW: 54 million, Minority Report: 43 million), so I'd reckon Tintin will gross at least 500 internationally

I think it'll get minimum $400m overseas, and hopefully at least $150m in the States. Good word of mouth should help get it across the line, especially in the holiday season when families all go to see movies together.

According to this article, Tintin cost between 150 and 175 million to make the film, plus 100 million for marketing. Spielberg and Jackson will take 30% of the gross.

Yes, that's standard with them, I understand.

Do asians also pay the equivalent of 9 to 14 Euro's for a cinema ticket?

Well, Asia is HUGE (approx. 4 1/2 times the size of Europe in terms of area, and more than 5 times the size in terms of population).

In Japan and South Korea, movie tickets are priced similarly as in Europe. In China, and in many other South-East Asian countries, they are cheaper, I expect... simply because the cost of living is much less.

Hmmm, ok. Europe is probably only the third biggest market...

I would say...

1. Americas

2. Asia/Oceania

3. Europe

I pay around 5 with discount, 6 without it and 7-8 with for 3D...
