ciarlese 251
Brilliant experience so far, probably the best at the RAH I have experienced yet (and in have experienced quite a few, missing only E.T. and Jurassic park which I have ticked elsewhere). I spotted missing high notes in the brass chords when they raise after the brief repetition of the same not just before the end of the main theme, during the helicopter sequence (I appreciate this may not be 100% clear, will try to get it clarified as soon as I can), I thought it was due to my position but everything has been fine in any other main theme statement so far: maybe a score transcription issue? Popular Post crocodile 8,020
While I would have liked to hear even more score being restored, the little bit that they did was great. It is a wise choice to have the very end of The Destruction of Krypton (just as the ship lifts off) and the entire The Kryptonquake reinstated. It always seemed bit awkward in the film with music starting and stopping and it certainly adds to the biblical feel of the scene, especially in concert setting. I know the main title is Williams' preferred version, if I'm correct. I didn't spot any other extra music. The mix was generally fantastic. Often with some of the older films the sound drowns the music but it wasn't much of an issue here. I could hear the sheer majority of music loud and clear. My 13th live to projection Williams concert was uplifting and magical. It was the best experience I've ever had watching this movie. Popular Post Omen II 1,235
One of my earliest memories is of being taken by my Dad to watch this film when it was first released. At the time sweet shops were selling bubble gum with Superman trading cards (anyone else remember those?) and my Dad used to buy me a pack as a weekly treat. I would give the bubble gum straight to my older siblings and keep the trading cards, for which I had learned all the captions before seeing the film. As you can tell, I have been middle aged since infancy. I remember my Dad telling us to be quiet during the film as my brother and I were calling out the captions from the trading cards at the appropriate point in the film - "Paying a call on Lois Lane!" and "A world torn asunder!", etc. I am sure I had no idea what the word 'asunder' meant, but I have always associated it with Jimmy Olsen taking photographs on a dam, even though it was probably for the destruction of Krypton. My Dad would use the phrase 'paying a call' as a euphemism for going to the toilet, so that caption in particular always amused me. It was nice to attend yesterday with my brother, with whom I had watched the film all those years ago. It was only the second time either of us had seen the film on the big screen. In the box immediately next to us was a little boy who was seeing the film for the first time, with his father who must have been about the same age as me. The little boy was being comforted by his father during the scary parts but would break out into applause when Superman rescued Lois Lane or Air Force One. It was really sweet. There were a few Supermen in the audience, the best of which I managed to snap from afar with his Lois Lane. rough cut, Andy and crocodile 2

Omen II 1,235
I completely understand the reasons behind the need to curtail the end titles (it was quite late when the film finished) but it would have been really nice to hear the concert version of the Love Theme as an encore. It would have rounded things off nicely. crocodile and Andy
Andy 4,143
It would. But listening to Maurizio's podcast with the conductor, you really get an appreciation (as I'm sure you get seeing it live), of the remarkable work put forth by the players to sustain this level of playing, with pauses dictated only by the film, with only one break. It's pretty astonishing they are able to do what they do. Yeah, those rules are in place to make the whole thing possible and reasonable for the orchestra. Popular Post rough cut 1,714
What an amazing night! I was there with my mum, who made me my very own Superman costume at the age of five. In terms of music, the soundtrack to Superman has had a bigger impact on my life than any other. The Royal Albert Hall was more or less fully seated, except for a few seats from people who’d not been able to fit the new date into their schedule due to the two year delay. You could tell that the crowd was excited to be here, every other attendee sporting some kind of Superman attire - a t-shirt, a cap or a pair of shoes. We were lucky enough to have great seats. Right in the middle of the screen, in the middle of the Arena (row 12, if that means anything to anyone). The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra entered the stage to the crow’s applause, and once the main credits started rolling - wow! That pulsating ostinato is the stuff of dreams and I had a huge grin on my face it as it bloomed into the full fanfare. I picked up some new instrumentation during “The Planet Krypton”, but I guess that’ve always been there, just hidden in the mix. It was also great to hear the unabridged “Destruction Of Krypton”. I also have to point out that seeing Superman on the big screen is quite a different experience than in your home theater - everything is more impactful. Seeing people fall to their deaths as Krypton was torn asunder and the consequential explosion of the planet… it was more dizzying and more horrifying than I’ve ever experienced before. And that carried on through the movie. I picked up a few things I hadn’t before: Jor-El’s emblem isn’t fully attached, just pinned at each side. Clark encounters a polar bear on his way through the Arctic. When clark stops to take out the green crystal to throw towards the horizon, you can clearly see the blue red and yellow-fabric poking slightly out of his bag. I also enjoyed the little details in the arrangement in the hall like the Superman lettering spelling out the word “Intermission” half way through the performance. The Supermen in attendance also added to the enjoyment. The audience was great. Laughing, ooh-ing and aw-ing in all the right places, as there was a communal feeling that we were really sharing something special together. I am so happy to have been able to attend. Although I’ve heard “The Superman March” performed live a couple of times (always a treat), I never would have dared to dream that I’d have the privilege of hearing “The Planet Krypton”, “The Trip To Earth”, “Growing Up”, “Leaving Home”, “The Flying Sequence” and “Lex Luthor's Lair” performed live. It was an actual dream come true. crocodile, BB-8 and Smeltington

SyncMan 314
I appreciate your clarifying that, @rough cut For that sequence of the detectives tailing Otis, was there music over the entire sequence at the concert? (You don't have to respond, rough cut, if you don't want to. Anyone else who attended the concert can respond.) I’m asking because in both the theatrical cut and the director’s extended cut, the music fades-out over this shot… …and reappears about 2 minutes later over this shot... Also, Mike M. said that there will be some music restored exclusively for this concert so I was wondering if that sequence was one of them.
