Jurassic Shark 12,076
Everybody knows his music to middle-earth, but he's done so much else, both for films and for the concert hall. What's your favourite tracks? Here's one of mine:

Thor 7,504
For the first 20 years of my film music fandom, I didn't like Howard Shore at all (except maybe the LOTR stuff). Especially not those droning Cronenberg affairs. But over the last decade or so, I've come to appreciate him more. At the moment, I have three non-middle earth Shores in my iTunes collection that I quite like - MAPS TO THE STARS, ROSEWATER and THE SONG OF NAMES. But I've obviously heard a great deal more over the years, and there are some things I would like to "re-acquire", so to speak - mostly more tonal stuff like MRS. DOUBTFIRE, LOOKING FOR RICHARD and the like. And then I'm set to re-evaluate the Cronenberg stuff.

KK 3,307
The official Howard Shore thread is a good resource for this. Some of my favourite non-Middle Earth music: Add to the list: The Fly, Eastern Promises, Edge of Darkness, etc etc
bruce marshall 1,315
I used to have HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. Very good score!
Chen G. 3,949
I happen to think his work on The Silence of the Lambs is wonderful. Not just the unobtrusive minimalism and effortlessness with which he sets-up an eerie atmosphere (the ending is not a bad example of this), but also the lyricism of the writing for Clarice. Marvellous. blondheim
Edmilson 7,456
I really like Eastern Promises. It has some exquisite violin solos, and works tremendously well in the movie.

Quintus 5,399
Silence of the Lambs is a very memorable score, but I found it to be overly intrusive during my recent rewatch of the film. It's inescapably 90s [crime] thriller music, which is either good or bad, depending on one's sensibilities. But it is good music.
bruce marshall 1,315
Had it . Sold it. VIOLENCE iirc had a track called " Chase" that Was memorable. Reminded me of John Barry

Williams esq. rips-off Holst, Korngold, Vaughan Williams, and Walton...in the same score Maybe Shore likes the way Puccini lays down a tune? GerateWohl 4,369
The opening of "Crash" was always one of my favourite tracks of Howard Shore. That electric guitar sound fit so perfectly to the damaged metallic letters and a pervert movie about the lust of car crashes.
