A24 4,347
- The Last Of Us will probably win in the drama category. - I watched all the nominated limited series and it will be a close call between Beef and Dahmer. Richard Jenkins (as the father of Dahmer) needs to win best supporting actor in a limited series. - I did not watch any of the nominated comedy series. In TLoU, the best musical moments of the nominated episode weren't from the original score. And in Succession, I don't really remember anything about the score of the episode that was nominated. IMHO the series finale had the best music of the season and it wasn't nominated. Still, the best TV scores of the past year weren't nominated: McCreary's The Rings of Power and Djawadi's House of the Dragon. enderdrag64, filmmusic and bruce marshall 1

Popular Post Mr. Who 919
That Djawadi (Westworld and House of the Dragon) and McCreary (ROP) weren’t nominated, while Andor and Last of Us (adapted game music) were, is insane. Tydirium 1,167
I love Shore’s Middle Earth music, but IMO his opening theme was one of the weaker aspects of ROP’s music, in comparison to Bear McCreary’s score. Why wasn’t McCreary nominated??? As I said on the Tolkien subforum, usually the scores that are nominated for the Emmys are the same nominated for the main awards. This year, all 5 nominees are also competing for Best Drama or Best Comedy Series. The same happens with the Oscars: usually the only scores that got nominated are for movies also competing for Best Picture or Best Director, Actor, etc. This year TRoP was completely snubbed in the main categories, so McCreary never even had a chance to begin with. Which still doesn't make it less infuriating. BM's score is leagues ahead of the crappy Andor score, which will probably be the winner. Richard Penna 3,696
His music is sadly no more noticeable than any other score to 'normal' people. I know this because I've had brief conversations about the show with some acquaintances and the moment I said 'music', the conversation just petered out. And yeah, the show was never going to be in serious competition for any 'proper' awards because it's mostly a bit rubbish.
ddddeeee 259
Worth bearing in mind that reaction from film/tv music fans and even concept fans to McCreary's work was somewhat lukewarm at first. It was all too dense to fully appreciate. Its reputation kept growing and growing as we all kept coming back to it and we could pick up on all the nuances and interconnectivity. Data shows that people generally bailed on RoP before the season ended. They certainly didn't revisit it afterwards, either. The extent of McCreary's achievement will have gone unnoticed. JNHFan2000 2,969
I first thought that they didn't nominate if because it was a "orchestral" score. But I don't think that the case. Succession, Wednesday, Hocus Pocus 2 & Ms. Marvel for example are orchestral score. It unfortunatly just has to do with the fact that Rings Of Power wasn't nominated for any of the major awards. And that is getting more and more of a problem. It has been at the Oscar and the big film awards for years, and now at the Emmy's. Music is everywhere seen as an afterthought, something that can't possible be THAT important to the succes of a film or series. But these people forget Jaws, Star Wars, Morricone's Westerns, The Avengers, Rings Of Powers and more all work and earn their successes a lot, or sometimes almost all of it, to it's music. I agree with a lot of filmmusic fans I speak with online that the only awards that get it right music wise is the IFMCA. And I for one, will support it in anyway I can, because these 'bigger' awards just let me down almost everything. JNHFan2000 2,969
These are a few of the music Emmy wins from last night (Documentary scoring still to come) - I don't mind Tapia De Veer winning, but would've liked someone else, because he already won. - Same goes for Birenberg & Robinson. Their score is really fun but honestly I would've given this to Karpman. Her work On Ms. Marvel was really special. - Song winner is a boring choice. It just feel like that won because it's Ed Sheeran. The other song from Ted Lasso is much much better. - Elfman winning for Main Title is fine, although Shore or again Karpman I would've preffered. Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) - The White Lotus: "In the Sandbox" – Cristobal Tapia de Veer (HBO) - Andor: "Rix Road" – Nicholas Britell (Disney+) - The Last of Us: "Long, Long Time" – Gustavo Santaolalla (HBO) - Succession: "Connor's Wedding" – Nicholas Britell (HBO) - Wednesday: "Woe Is the Loneliest Number" – Danny Elfman and Chris Bacon (Netflix) Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) - Weird: The Al Yankovic Story – Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson (The Roku Channel) - Hocus Pocus 2 – John Debney (Disney+) - Ms. Marvel: "Time and Again" – Laura Karpman (Disney+) - Prey – Sarah Schachner (Hulu) - A Small Light: "What Can Be Saved" – Ariel Marx (Nat Geo) Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics - Ted Lasso: "So Long, Farewell" – "A Beautiful Game" by Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance, and Max Martin (Apple TV+) - Ginny & Georgia: "Hark! Jay 37,374
I haven't seen The Bear but... it's not a comedy, is it? Isn't it a drama in a half-hour timeslot?
JNHFan2000 2,969
I have seen it, and it's billed as a Comedy-Drama, so I guess they went for Comedy to have a higher chance of winning. It's not a Comedy in the sense of Shrinking or Abbot Elementary, but there are funny moments. It's a bit like Barry in that way
