Romão 2,274
The prospect of yet another trilogy wouldn't normally excite much, but since this is separate from the Skywalker saga and Rian Johnson is steering the whole thing, I can't help but be quite intrigued by this Will and crumbs

Johnson's involvement, if JW really enjoyed their collaboration, could convince him to do just the first film and establish the music tapestry. But I think IX will be it for Williams, he will score every Skywalker film and that will be his legacy (and frankly I'll just be happy if he finishes this trilogy). But hopefully we're still having anxiety-inducing discussions like this when he's in his late 90s scoring Indiana Jones 6. As for the announcement itself, I figured they'd do a new trilogy of unrelated movies. They knew there had to be a pause on the Skywalker series before doing Episode X, and they can't do Anthology movies every year for a decade, so a new trilogy mixes things up and fills the gap between IX and X. I'm guessing it's an Old Republic series? Pieter Boelen and Will

Our film is coming, but who cares? Look! The trilogy we're working on is old news! There's a new trilogy coming! And you know what? Don't think too much about that one, because there'll be another after it!" Pieter Boelen 740
Maybe this is a trick to build up hype for TLJ. Show confidence in Johnson (who apparently they did not need to fire) so people think what he did is really good. That puts people in theaters, bringing in more money. If they're right about the quality of the film, then that's a clever strategy. Ludwig

Nick1Ø66 4,714
I really hope we find out the origins of The Force with this one. How did The Force get its start? Why does it always need balance? Why do some people have The Force and others don't? Why is there a light and dark side? Why does The Force feel the need to control and bind everything together? How long does it need to sleep before it awakens? Was there an epic, cataclysmic fight where both sides of The Force threw planets and stars at each other (hence 'Star' Wars)? Is The Force capable of time travel and warp speed? And who will play the Light & Dark sides? Casting is critical. It's time to lift the shroud of mystery on The Force. These are questions Star Wars fans have been asking themselves for 40 years. We need answers. Pieter Boelen

Here, we know thanks to Johnson that there wasn't even much of a story outline. What I meant is that as a film trilogy, Lord of the Rings changed the perception of what a film franchise should be (including in terms of marketing) and paved the way for the modern "cinematic universe" logic. 40 minutes ago, Nick1066 said: It's time to lift the shroud of mystery on The Force. The news broke as it was announced to shareholders. They keep Disney going so have to be informed of stuff like this. They want to know what’s happening with their investment and what’s being done to make them lots of money. It’s impossible to keep this sort of thing quiet when you announce it to them so a press release follows.
