The Herrmann is surely the re-recording of On Dangerous Ground and The Man Who Knew Too Much, yes?

But would a better script and characters detract from the visual experience? Why not aim higher?

Man, Poledouris has become so underappreciated. The Dude used to be a king alongside the three Js (Jerry, John, and James) - he needs to have a massive revival.
This one ends up very Basil at 2:32 (and I love that he drops the Under Siege 2 theme in there)
It has been years since I've listened to this. Such a great piece

Somethings are debatable. That Williams did not write this is not one of them. It's just too plain obvious

If JW had composed that crap I would be seriously worried about his lucidity.
You just need to listen to it to be absolutely, 100% sure, that Williams did not write it

I get the inclusion of the OST, but since I reckon 99% of the people who will buy this edition already own the OST and the fact that it adds almost 15 euros to price of this edition, I can't help but feel it could've been left out without much harm done

All the scenes set in ship Amistad itself are absolutely gripping, but the movie really stumbles in all the scenes outside of the ship's setting. I did enjoy Matthew McConaughey's performance, though

Spectacle without story is no spectacle at all. I really don't see what we shouldn't expect both at all time with this sort of project. Screenwriters are cheaper that VFX

Nixon is terrific. The 90's is my favorite JW decade

It's a good playlist, but some tracks I really can't do without when trying to sum up the music from Battlestar Galactica. Apart from @Marian Schedenig's and @Edmilson's excellent suggestions, I would also add these:
This is a rather long track and I can see why it would take too much space in a single disc release, but it's a track that immediately puts me in a BSG headspace, so to speak, and greatly evocative of the good times I had watching the show. It really captures the overall mood of the show, somehow:
I've always found this one quite moving:
This is my favorite action track from the whole series:
This would be my last addition:
It might be a good time to rewatch the series

I suppose "essential" is in the eye of the beholder, but the Apple Music page says the new album is 75 minutes long, and the original 30 minute score album is included at the end, leaving a new 45 minute main program.
So I guess 15 minutes was unreleased, possibly more if the new main program includes different versions than what was on the score album in spots
Thank you, I hadn't noticed the the OST program was included at the end

Now the usual questions: how much essential music was missing from the LA Confidential OST? It was a quite short cd release
-
I was a fan of the original album, but this is definitely a worthy upgrade.

Looks far more interesting than the latest lazy Disney cash brag live action remake

He gave us the definitive portrayal of Batman. His voice and performance would be absolutely perfect for every iteration of the character. He left quite a mark on my childhood and imagination

I know I'm very late to the party, but I started listening to this podcast yesterday and I'm already 10 episodes in.
Wonderful job, @Trumpeteer. It is particularly helpful in getting to know some of JW's lesser known scores and how the music plays works in the context of the film. I've been enjoying it tremendously and love your selection of clips. I think by the end of next week, I might've gone through the whole thing.
Besides the work you've put into getting to know the music, I'm particularly amazed and thankful for your dedication in watching all the movies JW scored and how that helps color one's opinion of the score.
I stumbled upon your podcast when searching Spotify for the Sleepers soundtrack, and your episode was the first result I got. And even for score such as this, which I consider to be a personal favorite and which I assumed to know very well, I was pleasantly surprised by your insights on how the music works in the film (for all the love I have for the score, I've never really watched movie more than a couple of times).
Great work, that's all I wanted to say. You're helping make my working day all the more pleasant

Simon Franglen's AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER (2022)

I mean, I like the Aliens score, it's a fun and often thrilling score, but it's mostly an amalgamation of ideas best explored in other scores. I really do think the movie's reputation has a lot do with the score's popularity
