Bayesian got a reaction from TSMefford in Director and composer relationship / Music in the final edit of the movie
I was under the impression that directors often have final say over a film but that that privilege was given at the studio’s pleasure. I’m other words, a director could always be overruled by the exec producer or the film’s main producer.
I suppose it’s fair to ask why director’s cuts of films are even a thing if the director always has final say.

Bayesian reacted to Manakin Skywalker in Director and composer relationship / Music in the final edit of the movie
Yep I made that correction in my previous post (or rather a clarification) Some directors have "final cut", whereas some do not and instead the studio does. Depends on the film/director/studio.

THE FORCE AWAKENS.
(geez, did I just post in a STAR WARS thread?).

Bayesian reacted to mstrox in The Fabelmans - score in the film
Getting really worried at this point that the title might stick.

Bayesian reacted to Sandor in The Fabelmans - OST Album
The length of The Fabelmans score reminds me of something Williams said during the Seventh Annual Career Achievement Award in the early 90’s.
Back then he said:
’I think it could be just as interesting to write a ‘Satie-like’ miniature score which is 10 minutes long. That can be the jewel in the hands of a master as a hundred-minute bombast can be in the hands of a fool.’

Bayesian got a reaction from BB-8 in The Fabelmans - OST Album
I want to know which other film composers, if any, would go to these same lengths if given the same opportunity as JW. Maybe I’m wrong, but my belief is they do not exist.
This is part of the reason I love JW. Not just as a creative human being who bridges two musical worlds, but as the idea of a creative human being who bridges two musical worlds. He’s the embodiment of the intellectual curiosity I would hope to see in the world’s greatest film scorer, if such a person did not already exist in JW.

Haydn always was my favourite classical composer, with a name starting with H.

All this pearl-clutching about the amount of original score is absurd. It’s x minutes more original score in the JW canon than we have right now, and we know every minute of it is going to be quality. Surely that should be enough to satisfy us.

Bayesian reacted to Datameister in Star Wars vs The Lord of the Rings
My votes are a mixture. It's hard to make generalizations, particularly about SW, where the writing and directing vary so much between films.
Ultimately, SW has had a much bigger direct impact on my life, but LOTR did get my vote for actor/character (McKellen's Gandalf), writing, and acting. Acting was a particularly tough call because both of them can go so cheeseball.
I also had a hard time with visuals. LOTR is obviously more technically advanced than the SW OT, and there's a lot of truly incredible work in there. But SW has simply left a bigger mark on my life in this arena, too.

Bayesian got a reaction from crumbs in Avatar 2, 3 and 4 or how James Cameron stopped worrying and pulled The Hobbit on us
That's how I'm gonna interpret it.
Listen folks, I'm going to bottom-line it: If Avatar 2 doesn't become the all-time box office champ, critics are going to savage Cameron and give the studios cold feet about entrusting audiences to pay for anything that's not completely tried and true. That means superhero movies, tout court.
Are you hearing me? All we'll ever get moving forward are stupid, derivative superhero movies until the sun burns itself out. Is that a world you want for your kids?
It shall be your sacred duty to put your ticket-buying ass into an IMAX seat for Avatar 2 this December and make sure this filmic hell on earth does not come to pass.

La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Interscope Records proudly present a remastered and expanded CD soundtrack release of acclaimed composer James Horner’s (STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, GLORY, TITANIC) original motion picture score to the 2000 holiday feature film blockbuster DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, starring Jim Carrey and directed by Ron Howard. Composer James Horner’s orchestral score to this live action feature film, based on the classic short story and TV special, had the unenviable task of reinventing a classic – and the Maestro more than delivers with a brilliant work that is genuinely moving while also capturing the fiendishly comic personality of The Grinch. Remastered and expanded with previously unreleased music, this presentation of Horner’s score exemplifies why the work is a notable title in the composer’s legendary canon. Produced by Neil S. Bulk and Mike Matessino, and mastered by Matessino from studio vault elements, this limited edition CD release of 3000 units also features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and classic art design by Jim Titus.
