NL197 got a reaction from enderdrag64 in James Horner's APOLLO 13 - NEW! Intrada 2CD Edition produced by Mike Matessino
Here's a copy of what I'd written regarding chronological order of the album on the corresponding FSM board page:

A Son's Worries And Simulator Crash (4:37) - This is THREE cues combined into one.

It is not possible to make this 100 percent chronological unless you were to split the three cues up. If one were to do that, this would be the order:

    01. Main Title (Film Version) (1:53)
    02. Lunar Dreams (2:40)

    03. The Docking Simulation (0:51-2:11) - this is unused.

    17. Marilyn’s Nightmare (0:58)

    03. A Son's Worries (start to 0.50)

    03. Simulator Crash (2:12 - end)

    04. Night Visitors (1:08)
    05. All Systems Go – The Launch (10:19)
    06. Docking (2:26)
    18. Canister Explosion (0:24)
    07. Master Alarm (Film Version) (3:31)
    19. Reactant Valves (1:09)
    08. Into The L.E.M. (Film Version) (5:10)
    20. Out Of Control (1:08)
    21. Power Off (0:57)
    09. The Dark Side Of The Moon (5:18)

    22. A Square Peg (3:49) - This is two cues. First is start to 1:40.

    10. Carbon Dioxide (5:45)

    22. I call it "A New Plan" (1:40 to end) This is unused.

    11. Manual Burn (1:56)
    12. A War Story (1:06)
    13. Four More Amps (3:22)
    23. Cosmic Connection (0:44)
    14. L.E.M. Jettison (1:37)
    15. Re-Entry And Splashdown (Film Version) (9:15)
    16. End Credits (Film Version) (6:55)

That's what all of our "reviews" are. They're not really buy it / don't buy it here's why. They're just as informative as we can make them about prior releases, mixing, how they pertain to the film, etc. More studies than critiques because the thinking is, no one wants to read critical reviews for a singular subject. Chances are if one's on a John Williams site, they like the guy's music even superficially, right? One doesn't expect to come here and read critical reviews ala Filmtracks or MMUK. They come for knowledge, details, stuff to supplement these albums and get to the how's and why's of the compositions on those discs.

So basically that but with James Horner. 🙂

Edwards did some solo work on both Apocalypto and Avatar (a dark, guttural chanting) and of course the larger choral ensemble has such a huge list of credits that wikipedia page is full of.

    ^^ Very true statements.

James Horner also said at the time of release, that he needed to pull the music back from being avant garde and too 'alien' to what the final result was, because audiences will tolerate unconventional visuals, but not unconventional music for a big film like that, so it had to be grounded in something more palatable.

Reading too much into those words, clearly it's TROY.

I don't like most of Goldsmith's music either. Star Trek music aside, I can point to The 'Burbs and that's about it.

I believe Braveheart is Horner's best score. Absolutely.

I have that stance because of the total overall package of film and music and how perfect they work together.

That to me makes it his best score.

Were the practice / tests video or stills ? Photoshop or some other form of compositing it for a still is obviously apples to the oranges of moving people in a video sequence is the only reason I ask.

Makes what we got in "What We Left Behind" the most beautiful of teases.

It wouldn't be a lot, just because the score was so chopped up.

Missing from the LLL set are:

21/2 Miles Down - Violin Tool Kit (slow, dreary violin backed by synth)
Wild Piano (for the submerged piano)
(Lo Pulse is just the thumping bass from the alternate ending to 2 1/2 Miles Down)
Fox News theme (source...does anyone miss this anyway?)
A Lucky Hand (this is from 'Heaven Help Us')
    Beacon (Michael Stearns)
Unable To Stay, Unwilling To Leave - New Ending (the Tony Hinnigan solo that closes the film before credits)
    Drone and Chord

Haven't watched much of it but listened to some of the audio channels and the music is incredibly discrete. There is no comparison to the theatrical's sound mix which doesn't come remotely close. You're hearing every strike of the snare, bells, you name it.

I hope this has the DS9 commercial bumpers and the main title mix from "The Way of The Warrior". Those are the last remaining variants of the title theme left unreleased.

Ironic, given Ryan George is Canadian. He's based out of Montreal.

He doesn't really ever say a movie is bad, he just points out leaps in logic, plot holes, etc that can be explained with "unclear!" or "because!"

I'm sorry but you're gonna have to get alllll the way off his back about it.

Yeah you better get off that thing.

Ryan George deconstructed Tenet. He didn't have to, but he put in the work.

I bet it was super difficult, barely convenient.

When it comes to Zimmer's TASM 2, I'd have swallowed all of it - the rap chanting voices, the dubstep, the relentlessness of the music always playing with a rhythm and rarely calming down....if Zimmer had just used Horner's melody for Spider-Man instead of that sound-alike Copland / Network News trumpet thing.

Keep everything else, but use the Horner theme, even if it's just the first 5 notes of it as a calling card like the 3 Zimmer did.
