Wow.  I was just re-listening to the violin arrangement of Rey's Theme about a week ago thinking, "If all Williams did for the rest of his career was reinvigorate his concert suites for violin and orchestra, it would be more than enough."  Instead, we get even more of that AND the promise of new film work.  What a gift.

Urge him not to.  Rian Johnson's fanboy love for Williams was endearing, but I think it inadvertently led to a less creatively fertile score than we might have gotten without the Williams temp track.

I think that E.T. And Me (or whatever the pedants are calling it, these days) would sound great, for solo cello.

Also, dang it!  When I opened the thread I thought we were finally getting the Ma/Williams album we deserve, chock full of film music suites for cello.  Ma did this with Morricone decades ago, but Williams' film music remains tragically under-recorded on my favorite instrument.

Also, Ma already recorded the concerto!  Revised or not, don't let Yo-Yo's penchant for yo-yoing back to previously tackled pieces distract you, Maestro!  We need "Love Theme from The Terminal for Cello and Orchestra"!

Maybe we'll get a couple of bonus arrangements on the back half?

I'm not completely opposed to temp tracks, just look at how effective that was for something like Prisoner of Azkaban (Rossini's La Gazza Ladra was clearly the temp for "Aunt Marge's Waltz") or movies like Star Wars and Home Alone - brilliant pieces from the classical canon that JW used as a launching pad for wonderful new music.
As long as it's not existing film music (including JW's own) - that's where the harm of it comes in.

"Hey John.  Why have you never written a theme for me?  I mean Dukakis got one, Obama got one, Kobe got one...what gives?"

"I tell you what Steven.  Make a movie about yourself, and I'll write your damn theme."

    "Hmm.  Okay.  Here you go."

"Damn it, Steven.  I'm working on Indy here (plus I have to write a new big piece for the woman, as it will become the new theme for the franchise)."

Update: now that Disney has an upcharged replacement for FastPass, I guess they don't care as much about total immersion in Galaxy's Edge as they did before.  Now the attraction doesn't have a proper sign, but the Lightning Lane™ for it does.

So can we get some Williams music in there now?

I’ve visited in person, and Tom is dead-on. The lack of orchestral music in the Star Wars idiom is a glaring flaw in the land’s otherwise excellent design, one that has been commented on by several theme park blogs in reviewing the land as a whole. It’s eerily quiet in most of the land in a way that blatantly fails to remind you of scenes from the films, which nearly always have a Western orchestra playing neo-Romantic music under them. It’s inexplicable that Disney would voluntarily forget the playbook they’ve been using for 65 years to create immersive environments and arbitrarily tie one hand behind their backs in terms of sensory immersion in the theme. Literally every other land they’ve ever created uses music as part of the immersion. This one arrogantly attempts to reinvent the wheel and kneecaps itself in the process.

I am not calm either. 😎

The final track on disc 1 that everyone is talking about does not end abruptly, so I'd very much doubt the omission of the segment in question was some manufacturing glitch, or a problem with the masters that was passed on to those streaming services. I am expecting the physical set to be the same.

Personally I don't think this was a decision they made intentionally. Not for a set like this. The missing segment was likely meant to be appended to the first track on disc 2 to keep the first disc's running time below the 77 minute mark - and hence reduce the risk of manufacturing glitches. Perhaps this decision was not documented or communicated well, so the score segment was forgotten about, and its space on disc 2 was then given to yet another demo track.

And with all due respect to Mr. Botnik (and I can fully understand that locating, extracting, mixing, mastering and producing this 25-years-old contnet cannot have been easy) this set does not contain "everything". There were number of demos for unused songs among the DVD special features (can be found on YouTube) that didn't make the cut here. Some of those were far more interesting than those iterations of the same demo they ended up including.

Alternate cover I made for this new Hunchback release. Decided to alter the usual template for these to best utilize this stunning artwork. The concept art for this entire production is so gorgeous btw.

Too bad about the odd glaring flaw with missing music bits. But I’ve really dug hearing Menken’s whole score. And the demos are fascinating to hear. While sometimes they seemed to hit the nail on the head with the songs other times they really had to sand off the edges. (Its so jarring and funny to hear that alternate, more jazzy chorus in “Hellfire”)

A major part of the brilliance of the score is the way Alan Menken and Stephen Shwartz incorporated sections of the Latin text of the Requiem Mass and the Kyrie into the score. It not only applies to what is happening on screen; it adds a richer and deeper subtext. Even the Fractio panis is sung at one point in the score (refer to OST track “Humiliation”). The transition from Heaven’s Light to Hellfire is the Confiteor, and part of it is also juxtaposed during Hellfire. The Confiteor is a prayer where one honestly and truly confesses to God one’s sins and asks for forgiveness and intercession; this contrasts with Frollo. Sanctuary is the highlight and explicitly includes a great majority of the Latin text of the Requiem Mass, as does And He Shall Smite the Wicked. The Bells of Notre Dame, The Pillory, Heaven’s Light/Hellfire, Find the Girl, Sanctuary, And He Shall Smite the Wicked; all of these cues incorporate the Latin text (Kryie eleison is Greek, of course).

I hope the choir that is heard the moment Esmeralda enters the Cathedral is included. I know it is source music, but that choir singing the Latin hymn moves me deeply, not just as a love for music, but as a Catholic as well.
