Absolutely, the music branch has a much more developed sense. Certainly, when they let Santaollalla through the net twice all those years ago, that was a major WTAF?

This is disingenuous. Like every other part of the academy, the music branch is made up of a large group of voters that breaks down into smaller blocks. Clearly a large amount of voters appreciate the craftsmanship of Williams’ scores, just as a large group of voters like the shit Santaolalla spews, but that doesn’t mean that every member of the branch is responsible for every nomination. That’s like saying every Democrat is responsible when a Republican is elected and vice versa in the US. There doesn’t have to be any overlap between the two for both to score a nomination.

I think that is a "schtick" of his rather than a senior moment. He conveniently "forgets" Connery's name in most concerts, making the audience get involved. I think it's very deliberate (as opposed to certain other faux passes, which may be down to foggy memory).

In either case, thanks for all the reports and pictures. Looks wonderful, and not envious at all, LOL! Any pics of the social get-togethers, if there were any?

This has always been my interpretation, that he leans into his cute “old man” persona. Take him “forgetting” which Star Wars “Across the Stars” was from three nights in a row in the April 2022 concerts.

  3. While that would certainly make for an exciting few weeks, I’d still rather not have waited 30+ years for more Hook. Like is too short for that. A lot of folks who loved the Hook score when it came out are probably dead now. Personally, I’m grateful I had the previous expanded album before my hearing started to decline.

Slightly off-topic as my question is about the first expansion. Was there ever any reason/explanation why Farewell Neverland started with a fade from near the end of The End of Hook? I always intensly disliked - hated even! - how Farewell Neverland started on that expansion. I reviewed the booklet notes, and the track description doesn't mention anything odd going on. And looking at the tracks and times from both, From Mermaids to Lost Boys is longer on the previous release. I haven't listened to hear what's differant? I assume the difference isn't music not on the new release

Rant over!  So happy that Farewell Neverland starts cleanly as God intended on this perfecto release.

I assume it’s because that was taken from the film stems, and the film stems faded into the opening of Farewell Neverland, so there was no other way to include it because they couldn’t be separated.

  5. Just lots of extremely jarring edits. If you haven’t listened to it, I’d recommend listening to the film version of Battle of Syracuse, which, imo, is the worst offender. There’s also lots of these weird, artificial reverb cuts they did on some of the cues to stretch them out, I guess. There isn’t really any editing around it, and it sounds like shit. Also tons of looping which is nearly impossible to remove in many cases.
