Still one of the most gorgeous openings I've heard in a movie !

Wish I'd read this thread sooner !
Just bought it on Itunes France and the score-only version doesn't appear anywhere...
I suppose it should be in this menu ?

Just saying it's impressive to look at
And to think that JW wrote all of these notes one by one, and that later they were all written again by orchestrators/score preparators...seems like such a daunting task !
I remember JoAnn Kane saying they'd copied something like a million notes for a certain JW project

The sheer amount of notes in a score like Home Alone or Home Alone 2 is just exhausting to me (from a composer’s POV). That’s a lot of work. Hours and hours spent with only paper and a pencil. These scores are straight-up ear candy to me but I start to sweat if I think too much about it haha.
Yeah it's quite insane and fascinating how intricate these scores can be...especially that kind of action cues !
So many things going on, so many ideas, so many layers, so many notes

Thanks guys !
I must say those are really fun to play

Always loved the horn solo in Duncan's Toy Store, and of course the whole "To the plaza, presto" cue !
So here it is, all transcribed by ear ( as far as I know there isn't a lot of Home Alone 2 sheet music out there ^^ )

I'd say they do yeah !
Any time a big "epic" sound is needed you can be sure there'll be a 4 or 6-horn section playing in unison, and when it's in the high range that's when it gets risky ^^
Especially if the horn players have been playing for quite some time during a session or concert and suddenly they have to play a high part...in that case you can never be 100% sure the right note is gonna come out

Haha, well you are absolutely RIGHT !
Especially when the whole horn section is playing in unison and one of them misses a note...there are so many cues in which this happened and it was nonetheless kept in the final mix
And I've heard it countless times live, well I even heard it a few times during the LSO show last year at the Royal Albert Hall !
Yeah...the french horn is no easy instrument to play

This may have been discussed in here already but I just realized something by studying the handwritten full score...
So right after the Throne Room sequence ends we hear the Main Title's theme played by the horns, but I just saw it actually wasn't what JW originally wrote !
It looked like this :
And a 9-bar insert was created to add the Main Theme :
I find it interesting that JW's first take on it didn't include that Main Theme !
Knowing that it was used for every episode afterwards ( played by the trombones in V and VI ) and has become so iconic !
Couldn't imagine any SW movie not having it when the "Written and directed by GEORGE LUCAS" appears

Sure, many things in these score seem reminiscent of other scores such as Far & Away and Amistad ( sometimes it also reminds me of Seven Years In Tibet ) and the movie itself might not be the best movie ever..
Yet, I actually really like this score !
Especially some of the slow cues which I find really poignant, plus all of those gorgeous horn moments of course
This one for example :
