The full length version took a while to be finished, but happy to say that Cinematic Sound will premiere it tomorrow and I hope you enjoy listening. Mike is a real pleasure to listen to and his commentary on E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Wars and Superman are very informative. His thoughts on Close Encounters are particularly insightful.

I've seen that documentary, too. Horner was an arrogant little shit, back then. Apparently, not much changed.
The engineer on ALIENS was Eric Tomlinson, and he did a bang-up job, on that score. I'd rather have his lovely, dry sound, than Murphy's homogeneous, wet fish crap. 

I'm excited about Goldsmith titles, One of them should be RAMBO III, of course! But really hoping that Horner's WILLOW makes it this year too along with THE PERFECT STORM!

I don't get a whole lot of sadness from this new version. It just sounds like a modern JW concert reworking of a classic melody. It reminds me of how he reworked The Face of Pan or even Jedi Steps or Irina's Theme. The melody is drawn out more, there are some interesting twists and turns, some new tensions and ebbs and flows that are more stylistically in line with JW's concert work and a greater emphasis on strings and long-lined variations. 

Off the top of my head I can't even think of any other Deluxe Edition that got an Encore release, Goldsmith or not. The Encore series is still fairly young and doesn't have all that many titles in it.
 
I do hope Varese encores their DE of The Burbs for those who missed it though...such an awesome score and it plays great in complete form. Of course I'd prefer they continue to make DEs of other Goldsmith scores that haven't received one yet.

I agree most OSTs work in that manner quite well/ I love getting expanded editions but the captured highlights are always more accessible if pressed for time. One of the reasons I still have most OST sets unless theat program is also remastered with the expanded albums.

As a concept album, the OST works.

the non franchise score that would benefit most from an expansion is The Patriot

And he's humble, too!

 
I guess there's a first for everything, but MV has always said that he doesn't do "clues."  That doesn't mean they won't be based on books, but I don't think that's an intentional hint, just a straightforward use of the idiom.

Ironically Williams interview with Craig L.Byrds Published in the 1997 FSM magazine-Williams called it Han's Theme. Of course in the very same issue Lukas Kendall even wrote an dissertation that Han Solo doesn't have a theme. But this new arrangement here is devoid of Leia's theme thus making it uniquely rendering  it as Han's Theme. Come to think of its its the only motif we have for Han even though it represents a love theme between Han and Leia.
