Bilbo 3,709
Might consider this for the Blu-ray disc...
Jay 37,364
Now the only question is if FOTR was re-done using the full recording sessions cues, or if it maintains the final film's tracking and edits like the 2007 CR set.
crocodile 8,016
I very much doubt they would change anything. Karol
Incanus 5,715
I would be surprised if they changed it but one can always hope. The track list looks identical to the original CR.

Holko 9,526
We know Doug worked on the reissues of these sets a few years ago, the question is only whether it was liner notes, remastering guidelines, or full-on redoing from scratch. One lament, since I'm the master of negativity: Instead of 5 different versions of every track on the Bluray, couldn't they have put on some unreleased alternates and bonus material to fill the space? (that tracklist might just be a placeholder, though, Amazon is horrible with this)
Jay 37,364
The other question is why do we have splash art for the Vinyl edition but not the CD/BD edition. Does the CD/BD edition come with the map too?
mstrox 6,651
My guess is that we don't have pictures because it is substantively the same as the old release. May be wrong though.
Jay 37,364
Oh I bet the 3CD/1BD Rhino packaging is different from the 2007 Reprise edition. It's probably very similar to Rhino's vinyl packaging.
Holko 9,526
...which is very similar to the original CR packaging. Makes sense, why fix what was already great? Just hoping the CD/BD will also get the map and book.
Richard Penna 3,690
I guess that if musically this is identical, then there's no reason for most of us (who have the original) to get this. It's purely for those who missed it first time. Even if they've actually corrected the edits, I'm still not sure I'd go for it.

Jay 37,364
I am fairly certain this will get a digital release as well, meaning not only will people be able to just buy it electronically, it might also be streamable on Spotify / Apple Music / Google Play and the like If only Rhino would have put out a press release before websites started listing it for sale.... A. A. Ron 1,742
Alright, I confess. I sold my CR trilogy for $600+ a couple of years ago... As such, I'll happily buy them again. I guess it is kind of disappointing they didn't revisit the program for FOTR, but it's hardly surprising. I'm happy to see these back in print either way. These scores are like the scores for Star Wars and Star Trek -- they should always be available.
Nick1Ø66 4,718
Well the DVD Audio is 48kHz 24bit. I'm not completely familiar with the Blu-Ray specs, but I assume they could do a 96kHz 24bit presentation. My guess would be they're simply porting over the DVD content to BD. But then why bother with BD at all unless you're upgrading the audio? I haven't pulled out my set in ages, and I can't recall but maybe the DVD's are flippers? If so, that would explain it. Dr. Rick 1,157
Fantastic news for those who missed out on it the first time around! The thing is, to play the high resolution audio on the original release, you needed to specifically have a DVD-Audio player; a standard run of the mill DVD Player could NOT play the DVD-Audio layer; It would only play the compressed audio on the DVD-Video layer. With this release, a standard run of the mill Blu Ray player WILL play the high resolution audio. So, even if its 24bit/48khz like last time, its more accessible now. Chen G. 3,949
Given how long and meticulous the recording process on these scores was, there was always bound to be unreleased material. I would love to see it released in some form, and sure the CR could have been better, too. But as it is, its excellent nonetheless. But in terms of a narrative presentation, I think having the CR as the "meat" of the score, the rarities as alternates, and the OST , fan-credits and symphony as "suites" make for a very good listening experience. Every fan should have the OST anyway. I can't count how many times I wanted to listen to The Lord of the Rings and didn't have it in me to go through the CR, and just listened to the OST presentation. Some of the material works very organically as a suite, too. Hell, I listened to the whole thing not two days ago. Holko and Nick1Ø66
