12 Most Beautiful Tracks

diskobolus

Recommended Posts

I just made about a dozen playlists in iTunes, each with a different theme, for example, "Adrenaline" or "Dimmed" ... "Heavenly", "Holiday", "Slumber", etc. The playlist "Heavenly" is reserved for only the most beautiful of all the music that I have. In short, these are the tracks that make me drop what I'm doing and close my eyes because they are so beautiful. Excluding movement-long Classical works, there are 12 tracks on this playlist currently. They are, in random order:

Buckbeak's Flight

The Face of Pan

The Girl Who Fell From The Sky (Hisaishi's Castle in the Sky)

Theme from Il Postino (Bacalov, played byPerlman)

Fawkes the Phoenix

Tokimeki (Hisaishi's Howl's Moving Castle)

Schindler's List Theme

Fairy Dance (JNH's Peter Pan)

Nemo Egg (Newman's Finding Nemo)

Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)

Cinema Paradiso Love Theme (Morricone)

The Letter that Never Came (Newman's Lemony Snicket)

What would you put on your list, restricting it to a dozen tracks?

For me the 12 heavenly tracks would be (in no particular order):

1. Cadillac of the Skies (concert version)

2. The Face of Pan

3. Where Dreams Are Born from A.I.

4.Search for the Blue Fairy from A.I.

5.Theme from Jurassic Park (the Hymn)

6.THe Crystal Chamber and Just Do It (the end half) from Atlantis

7.End Title from Shawshank Redemption

8.The Grand Finale from Edward Scissorhands

9. THe Girl who Fell from the Sky (The best Hishaishi I know, good of you to remind me of that one)

10.Angela's Prayer

11.Burning the Past from Kingdom of Heaven

12. Main Title from Angel's in America

Here are 12 (or something like 12) heavenly tracks IMO. There would be more but these came of the top of my head. A more thorough list would take long time to put to together and much more thought since there is so much beautiful movie musicv out there.

Thanks Morlock. That'd be around the top of my list too.

I'd throw in Born of the Fourth of July too. I think it's achingly beautiful.

Maraquesh, Maraquesh....

That's my brother you know. WHY DO YOU KEEP ON DOING THIS!!!??? You have reached a point where I may no longer be able to protect you dog!

Actually; if you would make a real top 10 based on your affinity with film music I'm sure you would impress some members here. I know how much you like the music for Harry Potter, Star Trek TMP and much more. Get it into the open man.

What's this Tom Petty shit?!! I could have told you this personally, but I want the whole board to know that you, in fact, LIKE film music and know who guys like John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and even Zbiniew Priesner (spelling???) are.

Interesting lists. My goal from all this is based on my reasoning that I'm likely to also like the music that's been listed here but just never got exposed to it. So I'm going to obtain as much of this music as possible, hopefully finding new gems. I've decided that my list is going to have a fixed size of 12, so new tracks will replace old ones, thereby elevating the totaly level of beauty to new proportions. Yay. (Fairy Dance is going to go first, I suspect.)

Oh, so we're entering the Classical realm, eh! That's a misnomer anyway, but you get the point. It's easier then saying Middle Ages/Renaissance/Baroque/Classical/Romantic/20th Century music.

If you want some of the most angelic sounding music ever, listen to "Blahoslovi, Dushe Moya" from Rachmaninov's 'Vespers' for unaccompanied Chorus.

Absolutely gorgeous 'track'.

  • 2 years later...
There are too many.

~Sturgis, just lazy

Seconded.

I will however make a short, up to date list (ignore that rubbish I posted previously, my definition of 'beautiful' is much more normal 3 years down the line):

Dracula - Love Eternal/Ascension

The Mummy 3 - Memories, Retirement and Dinner

LotR: TTT: Theoden Rides Forth

LotR: Rotk - The Mouth of Sauron (latter half)

Lady in the Water - End Titles

King Kong - Central Park

The Water Horse - Swimming

Angela's Ashes - Angela's Ashes

Tibet - Regaining a Son

The Patriot - Anne & Gabriel

Glory - Closing Credits (one of those cues I have on full blast by 3:30 in time for that magnificent statement 10 secs later)

Legends of the Fall - The Wedding (very loud and slowed down - you can nearly feel those strings)

Mr Holland's Opus - Cole's Tune

Most evenings around 1am are dangerous times for me. It's very quiet and really allows me to listen to stuff properly, and if I have one of those "this stuff is freakin' awesome!!!" moments, I won't be up early the next morning...

I was just listening to the Nutcracker and I feel that so many of these pieces are utterly beautiful.

There's too much "beautiful" classical music to name. But if we're talking only film scores...

"The Ballroom Scene" - The Witches of Eastwick

"Toy Planes, Home and Hearth" - Empire of the Sun

"Death!" - Edward Scissorhands

"The Death of Falstaff" - Henry V (heh, death)

"We Have All the Time in the World [instrumental]" - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

"A Wild and Distant Shore" - The Piano

"Pour Sacha" - Pour Sacha (by Philippe Sarde - obscure, but check it out!)

"Remembrances" - Schindler's List

"Ilia's Theme" - Star Trek: The Motion Picture

"Princess Leia's Theme" - Star Wars

"Anakin's Theme" - The Phantom Menace

"H.W. / Hope of New Fields" - There Will Be Blood

"Main Title" - To Kill a Mockingbird

"End Title Song" - Troy (Yared's score)

"Remembrances" - Schindler's List

This. I was on a Hook/Schindler's List binge last week and while the score is excellent, this track's crescendo is phenomenal.

I'll also throw in Remembering Childhood from Hook. It's a tad repetitive but that hardly takes away from what it has to offer. I love the varying themes and what they build towards. Flows very well into the next track also.

I'll give you 2 that stop me.

The theme from Rich And Famous and the "Love Theme" from Joe Versus The Volcano.

"Remembrances" - Schindler's List (it's been mentioned a lot, and rightly so)

"You Are the Pan" - Hook (the track on the OST which includes "Face of Pan")

"Angela's Prayer" - Angela's Ashes (pretty much all of the album really)
