It's a shame because Harry Potter 1 and 2, whether you like them or not, are phenomenally well made movies, with great practical effects (and great cgi in the second film), good camera work, great direction for the adult actors, fantastic sets and atmosphere, and great music. Stuff like Fawkes and the Basilisk are practically perfectly realized. You compare that to Percy Jackson and Pixels, and it seems like he's not even trying.

Yeah I disagree that Beyond “didn’t click with fans.” I think most people waited for it to stream, but the fans who actually saw it, generally seem to have liked it.

STID: Star Trek Into Darkness. Popular enough to get a sequel. Beyond was the (good) movie that tanked Star Trek.

Damn! I remember him on my Lost scoring sessions.  They were all top notch, and I didn't realize how great they were.  Emil Richards literally proudly showed me his custom percussion instruments that he identified as being made from airplane parts.  In the booth was Dan Wallin who was a true professional.  Focused and mixing in near real time.  Our session was just three hours and he had it mixed live.  Superfast to keep us on time and budget.  He was a true pro. RIP.

This part is not always accurate.
The M style are not fake.  What they are.. are the ME's version of the slates (and also 'their' version of the titles) based on how they work the score into the film.  Sidebar--these are only deemed fake because they are not what people are used to seeing and thereby result to calling them fake(d) or inaccurate.

Yes, a lot of the 'Zimmer crowd' use the ascending/non-ascending slates.  Typically, a lot of the M style are utilized by ME's of Warner Bros Pictures and Walt Disney Studios.  FYI.

    McCreary wrote/used the following themes:

    Godzilla's Theme (Ifukube)
    Mothra's Song (Ifukube)
    Rodan
    Ghidora
    Monarch
    Serizawa's goodbye
King Of The The Monsters (Overall Monster theme)

    That's 7 different themes

    Holkenborg wrote the following:
    Godzilla (uge brass statements)
    Kong
And an electronic motif for Mega Godzilla.

And as someone who likes GvK's score I am wondering why Holkenborg keeps saying that it was sooo hard to use the pre-existing themes. McCreary did it and I didn't hear him complain about it.

Never thought I would hear an epic, trailerized version of the Banana Boat song but here we are.

Can't judge anything, good or bad from that teaser.  But I like to think if Keaton got on board with this, it has serious potential.

The trilogy is complete and definitive

As mentioned before, the first two say 3000 copies whereas the last says 2000. You'd think they're anticipating all puchasers of the first two to want to complete the set.

I also observe that the printed cover for this one looks fine - no pixellation or major artifacts. It's just the digital version that looks a bit suspect.

TSMefford reacted to Bespin in Exploring the Impact of Over-Editing on Film OSTs
I would like the opinion of experts on the subject of over-editing music in film OSTs now that it's so easy with technical means.

I know that editing film music for albums has always been done, but sparingly, with makeshift means, often yielding mediocre results. For instance, in the first Star Wars soundtrack, some tracks were edited and combined, including the theme, but the album still contained many tracks as they were recorded.

Today, with technology, we can make dozens of micro-edits in a single cue, which I find somewhat excessive. I would like to know, from your perspective as experts with a better overview of soundtracks released in recent decades, what is your take on this?

Are soundtracks where 99% of the tracks are micro-edited becoming obsolete, or are they still relevant? Also, I'm curious to know, around which years there was a decisive turning point (if there was one), or with which soundtrack it became apparent that "Oh, OSTs will never be the same again."

Do you have any concrete examples?
