Remco reacted to TownerFan in Has John Williams now completed the Indy 5 score?
Recording of the score has been completed on October 18.

Remco reacted to Tom in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (James Mangold, June 30 2023)
I would love for Williams to drop the Speeder chase into it as a screw you to JJ.

Remco reacted to Nick Parker in Prelude for Piano and Orchestra (new Williams composition - premiered June 2021; Albany Symphony performance & recording coming 2022)
The prelude is absolutely beautiful and I love how metal Williams' piano writing can be, but I've felt for a long time that Williams can fall back on a lot of familiar territory in his concert music and seems to lean heavily on writing for particular instruments to escape the molds he's created for himself. When he doesn't have the idiosyncrasies of those instruments to force him to explore, you get something like this scherzo, which sounds almost temp-tracked and warmed over from...well, his scherzo in the Cello Concerto. Combine that with a pretty limp and wet-noodled motif that others have pointed out fits right in as a mid-tier supporting melody in a post-00s score, and I don't think the end result is very successful, some badass moments and effects notwithstanding.

Remco reacted to Cerebral Cortex in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (James Mangold, June 30 2023)
Honestly, kinda kicking myself for not picking this up now. Most of the tracks I REALLY like are on the Abrams/Williams Ultimate Collection, but the completionist in me wishes I'd gotten that 5 CD set too.

Plenty of nice action sequences for JW to leave off the OST

Remco reacted to Cameron007 in Alan Rickman Thought Williams’ Potter Score Was “Hideous”
I mean, it was written as a children's score (for a children's movie). It's very whimsical in nature, and I can see how it might be overbearing for some. But for its intent, I think it does its job well.

Remco reacted to Joni Wiljami in Alan Rickman Thought Williams’ Potter Score Was “Hideous”
My comment wasn't for you personally, just the overall attitude of this thread, so many people annoyed by the heavy orchestral music. Same people here can't stand the music in the end of E.T. , too much for them. Huzzah

What is wrong with you people? It's perfect as it is. And I would say Azkaban(best score of those three) mix is annoying, music is way too low. But hey, I love Williams.

Remco got a reaction from Trope in Alan Rickman Thought Williams’ Potter Score Was “Hideous”
It’s interesting to read this from a guy like Rickman and I remember also Norman Lebrecht’s comment that it ‘completely failed to match a kids movie about wizards’ or something like that.
Actually the kids that grew up with it all love the score and it’s a huge part of the nostalgia for these films. Williams knows all too well what to do for this kind of film…

Remco reacted to BrotherSound in Indy 5 to begin recording Tuesday morning!
JKMS is playing coy, but these sure look like JW sketches, presumably for Indy 5, so it seems recording is still very much in progress:

Remco reacted to King Mark in The Fabelmans - score mentions in film reviews
If Williams didn't have time to provide a more substantial score it's Spielberg's fault again, always releasing a film when Williams is busy with a big franchise score(Harry Potter, Star Wars). Since his films aren't too frequent he could have picked another release window

Remco reacted to toothless in The Fabelmans - score mentions in film reviews
It’s funny how critics like to point out when a Williams score isn’t instantly memorable while praising any other sound design-y score by other composers.

Remco reacted to Score in John Williams executes Order 66 on sheet music
Ok, if this is reliable, then I think JW and/or his legal team took an absolutely right decision. It's totally reasonable for a composer to keep control over his published output, and not allow other "non-official" editions to be passed as representations of his pieces, without his control.
Another story is the inaccuracy / inadequacy of some of the "official" editions (I think this is what is bothering you, right?), such as the piano folios, which are (or were - I've stopped buying those long ago, and only go for the Signature Editions) in most cases done by people who are either bad pianists, or bad transcribers. This is an issue, but I consider it a separate one. The solution is not to allow random people to publish their own arrangements, but to supervise more closely the official editions. It is possible that, if they care so much about what is published, they will also start putting more effort into those piano reductions.

Remco reacted to bollemanneke in John Williams executes Order 66 on sheet music
Great, great decision. I'm sick and tired of hearing third-class orchestras (and better ones) play arrangements that could have been written by pre-schoolers. I had to pay €80 for a concert that contained nothing but that kind of crap. He should definitely publish more, though, but this thread title misrepresents what is going on.

You sound like a crazy person here, showing no semblance of rational thinking at all

Remco reacted to crumbs in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (James Mangold, June 30 2023)
A video of James Mangold's comments. "The astounding John Williams" gets a larger applause than George Lucas
The elation on his face at ~2:10 when he mentions working with JW is so heartwarming.
Around 2:25 he says they had more scoring sessions yesterday, so the score must be nearing completion.
