Jules 59
I really like both, I don't remember Tyler's being that good. Usually don't have much of a taste for anything he composes, his MCU scores included. A shame they had to replace the original, but Gia did a great job on the second iteration. Raiders of the SoundtrArk 2,436
I find Gia's one more melodic while Tyler is more powerful. I think the perfect match would have been the melodic opening like Gia did and end up on a more powerful tone like Tyler Jules
Jules 59
Tyler’s certainly makes me nostalgic for Phase 2. Recently been coming round to the fact that movies like IM3 and the Dark World are actually pretty good.
Raiders of the SoundtrArk 2,436
I absolutely agree on IM3 which I think is one of the best solo Marvel movies but I personally do find the Dark World not that great. It has some fun moments but it doesn't do much to me. Its sequel is largely superior.

Datameister 2,073
Giacchino's for me. @Disco Stu nailed it - Tyler's starts off stronger, but I really enjoy the way Giacchino's builds.
Richard Penna 3,753
My primary issue with Gia's is that at 0:19, we lose the rhythm he's built up, and there's a moment where I feel I'm recalibrating, and working out what the bridging part is doing... and that's where it falls over for me. I also don't find the 'A' melody strong enough, such that when it comes back in, it doesn't land that final punch. Also, there's nothing visually accompanying the transition from 'A' to the bridge part - it just feels like it comes out of nowhere. I like how focused Tyler's is - I find the melody more powerful to start with, and it retains that power right the way through. Just feels more 'logo-like', and by the time Tyler's is reaching the climax and we understand where he's going with it, Gia's is still trying to get there. Faleel 5,404
Giacchino for me. Tyler's sounds like a flat demo in comparison IMHO.
Popular Post Loert 2,520
They both have strengths and weaknesses. Tyler: + Has one easily identifiable theme, giving it cohesion - Bass hits are a bit overdone - The bit from 0:16 suggests an "arch" which doesn't really exist - the music already begins at a high point Gia: + Orchestration is more "ambitious" - Contains two completely separate ideas. Interesting but...why? - Perhaps orchestration is too complex. Woodwind at very beginning don't sound too good. Horn rip at 0:08 serves no function. As a producer I would go with Tyler for its cohesion and intelligibility. As a musician/composer I would go with Gia for its creativity and "out-of-the-box-ity". But Gia's second idea is definitely better than the first, and his version would easily win for me if this second idea was more of the focal point, which leads me to think the first idea should be shorter and less complex. If I were Gia, I might cut everything before 0:09, and make the rest of the A section (till 0:21) sound more like Tyler's version. Or, at least, remove the harmony change between 0:12 and 0:15. (Disclaimer: I know nothing about Marvel so any significance of the themes is lost on me.) Disco Stu, Muad'Dib and Cerebral Cortex
Edmilson 7,579
My favorite Marvel openings don't use neither of the fanfares. In Infinity War, the music that accompanies the Marvel logo is a dark, menacing performance of Thanos' theme from Silvestri, thus indicating that the movie you're about to see is "darker" than usual (for MCU standards). And in Spider-Man: Homecomig, there's a fun performance of the Spidey 60s theme re-arranged by Giacchino:
Disco Stu 15,495
I much prefer when they use the fanfare. Gives me a sense of cohesion across all the different tones you find within the MCU

Anthony 572
So.... Both fanfares have two versions - the "short" versions heard in the films, and the longer concert suites. (Giacchino's suite technically transitions from fanfare into Doctor Strange, into Spider-Man and then back out into a slower version of the fanfare). Giacchino's suite was performed at the RAH in 2017. Tyler's suite has only ever premiered on Cinematic Sound. Giacchino's "short" version is miles better than Tylers (and I'd say is my favourite current logo music of any major studio), however Tyler's concert suite is a real winner. Bayesian 1,367
Both are no great shakes to my ears, but I like Gia’s slightly more for the catchier opening bars (to others’ chagrin here, surely, I appreciate hearing texture instead of brass/low string flatness). My main issue is that neither composer’s melodies “go” anywhere interesting. They seem to intentionally avoid large intervallic leaps of any kind, so the result is a boring noodling-around. (Again, just to my ears.)

Disco Stu 15,495
I'm pretty sure the Giacchino suite mentioned above was just the usual fanfare followed by material from Doctor Strange and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Stark

Popular Post igger6 894
Tyler's fanfare (like much of his work overall, in my opinion) has bombast without heart. It's a six-note motif that truly goes nowhere other than to repeat itself with the slightest pitch changes here and there. It's the same basic structure four or five times in a row. It also relies solely on ballsy brass and minor-key menace. It's hummable, but to hum it takes five seconds. Giacchino's theme, on the other hand, has two distinct sections, the first of which has a neat, rising and falling, call-and-response pattern of six notes each, incorporating some sonic diversity (high woodwinds!), and the second of which brings the orchestral wallop a la Tyler's theme. It's as if the first half of the theme illustrates the wondrous existence of superheroes and their noble intentions, and the second half says, "Aaaand you get to watch them PUNCH EACH OTHER!!!! BAM BAM BAM BAM!!" Best of all though, both halves actually sound happy. It sounds like something that could actually underscore the sillier early days of Marvel Comics. Plus, I like Gia's opening ostinato better. Tyler's sounds like every other in-vogue ostinato of the past ten years. HunterTech 996
I don't know which one I really prefer, since they're both about as standard as you can get for Marvel themes. Tyler's is certainly the more immediately recognizable one, but Gia definitely has more going for it in the composition department. I always figured you actually could make a pretty effective combination of both, making some adjustments to have them fit. For now, I'll go with Gia on the basis that it does more to pump up the viewer for the film.
