Disco Stu 15,517 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 One of the most unique, cool, and interesting voices to ever do it, RIP mstrox 1
Popular Post SpaceCoyote 151 Posted December 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2022 On top of all the obvious picks, I really love his Christmas Vacation score. Always wished for an expanded release. And for anyone who hasn’t seen it, his video walking through the creative process behind “Laura Palmer’s Theme” is a must-watch. Oh, Angelo. enderdrag64, Naïve Old Fart, Holko and 1 other 4
Edmilson 11,380 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 My dad is a big Twin Peaks/David Lynch fan, he even owns to this day the TP OST. Because of him, I binged all his Twin Peaks DVDs when I was a teenager. Years later, I heard his score for Stalingrad and really loved it!
Romão 2,447 Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 One of the greats. I consider Fire Walk With Me to be one of the greatest soundtracks (and OST albums, for that matter) of all time Holko 1
Popular Post Knight of Ren 1,401 Posted December 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2022 That's so sad! His work with David Lynch made a huge impact on me in my teenage years, and his unique style and memorable melodies I think are a big part of the success of Lynch's movies. These are some of my favorite pieces by him: And all of his music for the Twin Peak series is fantastic, like the iconic title theme, Laura Palmer's theme as someone mentioned above, as well as his jazz cues like Audrey's Dance or Freshly Squeezed, but if I had to pick one of the bunch, it would probably be the theme from Fire Walk With Me Such a great, noir-ish cue that perfectly encapsulates Lynch's vision in a single piece of music. One of the greats and he will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace! Holko, Romão, Naïve Old Fart and 2 others 5

crocodile 9,480 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 This is my favourite score of his: Big fan of Mulholland Drive as well. Karol Yavar Moradi and Naïve Old Fart 1 1
Koray Savas 2,257 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Can’t say I was familiar with his work until I discovered Lynch in the past few years. But his music is so integral to Lynch’s oeuvre, it’s essentially its own character in Twin Peaks. I just watched Fire Walk With Me last night too. RIP
Popular Post mstrox 7,292 Posted December 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2022 The Straight Story is a terrific and underrated score. Romão, Not Mr. Big, Naïve Old Fart and 1 other 4
A24 4,993 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I only have the Twin Peaks CD but I know the movies, of course. Badalamenti was to Lynch what Williams is to Spielberg.
artguy360 2,154 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I'll never forget his work on Twin Peaks. His main title and Laura's Theme/love theme are so perfect for the mood of the show.
Naïve Old Fart 12,475 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 That's both of TWIN PEAKS' musical hearts, gone.

Thor 9,330 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 One of the most massive losses in film music-dom for me, as he's largely responsible for my interest in film music. I've been trying to sort my thoughts over the last 24 hours, and will write an obit soon. I'll share a Google Translate of it when I have it ready.
filmmusic 2,887 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I am not acquainted with his music. I haven't seen TWIN PEAKS (I know only of the music theme) but I have seen some films he's scored like THE STRAIGHT STORY, BLUE VELVET, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, LOST HIGHWAY. I don't remember anything of the music, but I remember and love the soundtrack of THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. Any recommendations?

Gold Coast 3. The Straight Story 4. Cousins 5. The City of Lost Children 6. A Very Long Engagement 7. Blue Velvet 8. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 9. Lost Highway 10. Knight of Ren 1,401 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I would say the best way to discover whether or not you will like his style is to go with his Twin Peaks stuff, as I think it's a perfect encapsulation of his work overall, but the amount of music can be a bit scary. You can start with the original release for the first season, which contains the essential highlights of the whole show, and from there move on to the Fire Walk with Me soundtrack, which is a darker and moodier take on that same style. You cannot go wrong with some of his stuff for Lynch, especially The Straight Story, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive (a personal favorite). I also love parts of other scores like The Wicker Man, Stalingrad or the main theme from The Beach.
eitam 404 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Very sad I don't know a lot of his work, but I love what I know: Twin Peaks of course, but especially his more "langourous" scores, Mulholland Drive, City of Lost Children, The Wicker Man, which I find riveting. His new music was too rare in the Twin Peaks revival but it hit the mark each time. I need to unpack that Blue Velvet deluxe edition now. It feels weird to be celebrating a great composer in Milan in the evening and finding out another great has died in the morning.
Tydirium 1,556 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Very sad news. Got into his music a few years back when I first watched Twin Peaks. His theme for The Beach is one of the most gorgeous things ever.
Disco Stu 15,517 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I’ve had Audrey’s Dance stuck in my head all day
Bespin Copilot 10,285 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I listened to this great suite from The Genius Of Film Music (Hollywood Blockbusters 1980s To 2000s) [London Philh O, Brossé, 2018]. Thanks for the music maestro. As I loved the first season of Twin Peaks, I must say that its music was a great part of its fun and strange ambiance.
