Jay 37,368
I wouldn't necessarily update The Unicorn Theme to 3M35 and TNT to 3M40 just because of some file names some hacker found. Who knows how it all works. From everything we know, he recorded a score to an early cut of the film in 2010, then Spieberg practically re-edited the whole picture and JW wrote so many new cues and inserts he almost re-recorded the entire score. Maybe some numbering is all wacky because the 2011 cues reflect a new cut of the film where different scenes appeared in different reels or whatever. We just don't know

Popular Post BrotherSound 2,242
I’ve done nearly complete breakdowns of the album and FYC. Unfortunately, there’s a handful of brief sections that I haven’t been able to identify, but this should hopefully still be useful for the curious: OST 1 The Adventures of Tintin 3:08 1M3 Alt - Tinker-Tin (Rev) 2 Snowy’s Theme 2:09 6M45 Snowy’s E.T. 3 The Secret of the Scrolls 3:12 0:00-0:51 3M35 The Unicorn Theme 0:51-1:04 1M5A You’re In Danger 1:04-1:25 1M5 The Library Scene 1:25-1:34 5M25B Raising the Rolls 1:34-2:16 1M6A Snowy and the Cat 2:16-2:28 1M6 Insert - Following Tin 2:28-end 1M6 Empty Drawers 4 Introducing the Thompsons and Snowy’s Chase 4:08 0:00-0:35 1M19A Thom Thompsons 0:35-0:53 1M10 The Pickpocket Scene 0:53-0:58 2M10 Rev - More Pickpocket 0:58-2:15 1M10 The Pickpocket Scene [continued] 2:15-end 2M10A Snowy In Pursuit 5 Marlinspike Hall 3:58 0:00-0:15 1M14 The Radio Room 0:15-0:36 1M8 Entering the Mansion 0:36-1:38 1M8A Dog vs. Dog 1:38-2:02 1M8 Entering the Mansion [continued] 2:02-2:40 1M8B The Second Ship 2:40-3:21 1M9A The Missing Scroll 3:21-3:28 1M9A Insert - Getaway Car 3:28-end 1M9A The Missing Scroll [continued] 6 Escape from the Karaboudjan 3:20 3M15 Rev - New Boat Escape 7 Sir Francis and the Unicorn 5:05 0:00-0:52 1M19B This Is The Desert 0:52-1:35 1M20 The Unicorn 1:35-2:14 4M20 Rev - The Unicorn 2:14-end 4M19C Sea Battle 8 Captain Haddock Takes the Oars 2:17 0:00-0:36 1M12 Introducing Haddock 0:36-end 1M16 Alt - The Captain Takes the Oars 9 Red Rackham’s Curse and the Treasure 6:10 0:00-0:41 1M21C At Sword Point 0:41-0:58 4M21C Insert - Gold In The Hold 0:58-1:33 1M21C At Sword Point [continued] 1:33-2:00 4M21C Insert 2 - Feather Knife 2:00-2:18 1M21C At Sword Point [continued] 2:18-4:08 2M22 Dueling Pirates 4:08-4:54 4M22A Insert - Red Rockham’s Curse 4:54-end 4M22A Insert 2 - To Baghar! 10 Capturing Mr. Silk 2:57 0:00-1:03 1M21A A Sober Haddock 1:03-end 1M18 Strolling In Disguise 11 The Flight to Bagghar 3:33 3M17A The Plane Ride 12 The Milanese Nightingale 1:29 0:00-0:06 4M23A Insert - Hanging the Poster 0:06-end 4M23B The Milanese Nightengale 13 Presenting Bianca Castafiore 3:27 0:00-0:32 4S23D Cavatina [Rossini] 0:32-end 4S23E Romeo & Juliet No. 3 Arietta [Gounod] 14 The Pursuit of the Falcon 5:43 0:00-0:29 5M24A Insert 0:29-1:13 4M24A Yes or Gu-No 1:13-3:55 4M24B The Falcon and the Flood 3:55-5:08 2M25 Bike Ride on a Clothes Line 5:08-end 5M25 Insert - Tin Dives In 15 The Captain’s Counsel 2:10 5M25A The Captain’s Pep Talk 16 The Clash of the Cranes 3:48 0:00-0:44 5M26B Crane Fight 0:44-0:54 5M26B Insert #2 - Snowy Helps Out! 0:54-0:58 5M26B Crane Fight [continued] 0:58-1:37 5M26B Insert #3 - The Crane Falls 1:37-3:20 5M26C Sac Versus the Captain 3:20-3:35 5M26C Insert - Tintin to the Rescue 3:35-end 5M26C Sac Versus the Captain [continued] 17 The Return to Marlinspike Hall 5:51 0:00-0:32 6M27A Reading the Scrolls 0:32-1:07 6M27B The Arrival at Marlinspike Hall 1:06-2:34 5M28 Marlinspike Hall 2:34-3:56 5M31 To Be Continued 3:56-4:23 6M31 Insert - The Treasure 4:23-end 5M31 To Be Continued [continued] 18 The Adventure Continues 2:58 6M45 Dueling End Title FYC 1 The Adventures of Tintin 3:09 1M3 Alt - Tinker-Tin (Rev) 2 The Secret of the Scrolls 1:40 0:00-0:49 3M35 The Unicorn Theme 0:49-1:04 1M5A You’re In Danger 1:04-1:25 1M5 The Library Scene 1:25-end 5M25B Raising the Rolls 3 Marlinspike Hall 2:15 0:00-0:12 1M14 The Radio Room 0:12-0:34 1M8 Entering the Mansion 0:34-1:35 1M8A Dog vs. Dog 1:35-end 1M8 Entering the Mansion [continued] 4 The Thompsons and Snowy In Pursuit 0:00-0:25 1M19A Thom Thompsons 0:25-0:55 1M9B Introducing the Pattersons [Thompsons] 0:55-1:22 1M9B Insert - Stepping on the Cat 1:22-1:54 1M10 The Pickpocket Scene 1:54-2:19 2M10 Rev - More Pickpocket 2:19-3:17 1M10 The Pickpocket Scene [continued] 3:17-end 2M10A Snowy In Pursuit 5 Escape From the Karaboudjan 3:24 3M15 Rev - New Boat Escape 6 Captain Haddock Takes the Oars 2:53 0:00-0:22 3M16 Rev. - Tin’s Description 0:22-1:00 1M12 Introducing Haddock 1:00-1:36 1M16 Alt - The Captain Takes the Oars 1:36-end 1M18 Strolling In Disguise 7 Capturing the Plane 2:19 0:00-1:48 3M17 Capturing the Plane 1:48-end 3M15 Rev - New Boat Escape 8 The Flight to Bagghar 4:07 3M17A The Plane Ride 9 Sir Francis and the Unicorn 5:27 0:00-0:48 1M19B This is the Desert 0:48-1:40 1M10 The Unicorn 1:40-2:23 4M20 Rev - The Unicorn 2:23-end 4M19C Sea Battle 10 Feather Knife 2:41 0:00-1:31 1M21C At Sword Point 0:45-1:02 4M21C Insert - Gold In The Hold 1:02-1:31 1M21C At Sword Point [continued] 1:31-2:12 4M21C Insert 2 - Feather Knife 2:12-end 1M21C At Sword Point [continued] 11 Dueling Pirates and Rackham’s Curse 4:05 0:00-1:53 2M22 Dueling Pirates 1:53-2:40 4M22A Insert - Red Rockham’s Curse 2:40-end 4M22A Insert 2 - To Baghar! 12 The Milanese Nightingale 1:42 0:00-0:16 4M23A Insert - Hanging the Poster 0:16-end 4M23B The Milanese Nightengale 13 The Falcon and the Flood 5:49 0:00-0:29 5M24A Insert 0:29-1:16 4M24A Yes or Gu-no 1:16-3:57 4M24B The Falcon and the Flood 3:25-3:29 5M25B Sweetener - Capt. Popular Post BrotherSound 2,242
Unfortunately, the GEMA repertoire listings for Tintin follow the same odd convention as other Paramount films: any cue that appears on the soundtrack album is not registered under its original title, but under the album title, with "Part 1", "Part 2", etc. if the OST track is compromised of more than one cue. Once again, the work codes seem to match the film ordering of cues (or their first appearance, at least): Work Code GEMA Title Cue AE9521 The Adventures of Tintin Tinker-Tin (Rev) AE9544 Sur Le Boulevard 1S4B/1S4C Sur Le Boulevard AE9618 The Secret of the Scrolls - Part 1 The Unicorn [orch. I'm also puzzled by the division of 'Red Rackham's Curse and the Treasure' into eight parts, since I'd broken it down previously as four: 0:00-2:18 1M21C At Sword Point 2:18-4:08 2M22 Dueling Pirates 4:08-4:54 4M22A Insert - Red Rockham’s Curse 4:54-end 4M22A Insert 2 - To Baghar! Update (2/15/2022): There really are 8 parts. I’d missed a couple inserts and have updated the OST breakdown accordingly. crumbs, Raiders of the SoundtrArk, Falstaft and 2 others 2

Popular Post BrotherSound 2,242
If anyone (besides me) is still interested, I can answer some of these questions from 10 years ago. I’ll start with the first few cues: On 10/11/2011 at 2:02 PM, Jay said: 04. “The Unicorn” - 1:34 - OST 03 [0:00-1:34] As Tintin walks by some mirrors he spots a ship that catches his eye, and the score proper begins. The cue consists of The Unicorn Theme followed by The Scrolls Theme followed by The Unicorn Theme again as Tintin examines the ship and buys it from the vendor. Once he does, a dark version of The Scrolls Theme plays as Barnaby races towards Tintin and the ship. More dark music continues as they discuss the ship, and the cue ends with a crescendo as Barnaby runs away and Tintin backs into someone. The cue appears on the OST as the first 1:34 of track 3, identical to what is heard in the film. The first 1:34 is known to consist of three cues. 0:00-0:51 is from The Unicorn [orch. Karam]. I’m not clear if this cue was intended for this scene, or if it’s a concert arrangement. It continues on at least another minute and a half. Confusingly, there are (at least) two other cues also called ‘The Unicorn’. 4M20 Rev - The Unicorn, and what appears to be an earlier version of 4M20 also without any slate, so I’ve referred to those two by their orchestrators. While the division of the rest is uncertain, at least some of this material may originate from The Library Scene (or a revision thereof), as 1:17-1:25 is identical to a few measures in that cue. On 10/11/2011 at 2:02 PM, Jay said: 08. "The Library" - 1:50 - OST 03 [2:16-2:28] (0:12) / Unreleased (1:38) Tintin’s Heroic Theme is heard as he leaves with Snowy for the library, but someone is watching from a distance, and The Unicorn Theme is heard as they focus in on the ship through binoculars. In the library, Tintin is reading through books, and when a picture of the Unicorn is shown in a book, The Unicorn Theme is heard again, and continues to play as Tintin reads more. Ominous music enters as a figure is seen watching him from a distance, but when Tintin turns around, he has gone. Tintin returns home. Only the first 12 seconds of this cue are the OST, in track 3 from 2:16-2:28. Those first 12 seconds are actually a different cue, 1M6 Insert - Following Tin. Unusually, it seems to be written to overlap at the end with tracked music (“Overlap Bar 9 - 1M6”), as heard in the film. On 10/11/2011 at 2:02 PM, Jay said: 10. 1M8 Entering The Mansion - 1:48 - OST 05 [0:14-2:02] Tintin approaches the mansion, shining his flashlight on the building and the marking above the door. Snowy takes off just before a dog suddenly arrives that chases him through the property until Snowy’s Theme heralds the arrival of Snowy, who barks at the dog, getting him to calm down. 1M8A Dog vs. Dog is the cue for the dogs’ encounter. On 10/11/2011 at 2:02 PM, Jay said: 11. "The Second Unicorn" - 1:47 - OST 05 [2:02-2:40] (0:38) / Unreleased (1:09) Tintin wakes up and has a discussion with Sakharine about The Unicorn. Tintin’s Mystery Solving Theme is introduced, followed by Tintin’s Heroic Theme. The music gets darker as Sakharine uses his cane to keep Tintin in place, and then Nestor shows him the way out after returning his flashlight to him. Only the first 38 seconds of this cue are included on the OST, in track 5 Marlinspike Hall from 2:02-2:40. The rest remain unreleased. This cue is 1M8B The Second Ship. As far as why I thought 11 years ago that what you heard in the film was different from the sheets for that cue, I haven't the foggiest idea any more >shrug< Maybe I got confused by the fact that it skipped some bars or something, who knows BrotherSound

Popular Post Tom 4,660
Just watched the movie after several years. The score in film is just top-notch work. The themes, their placement, the action music. It is just masterful. I just cannot connect with the movie itself--not sure why. The mo-cap faces are awful, but I can look past that. It is just kind of boring, which is a shame, because this would otherwise be a fantastic LTP experience. crumbs, Pieter Boelen, Edmilson and 1 other 3

Tom 4,660
I remember Spielberg talking about it before we saw anything. He was amazed with the tech and talked about it being photo-real. I just don't understand how people could literally think this. Its weird almost to the point of delusion. Edmilson

Not Mr. Big 4,639
2D Tintin wouldn't have been nearly as good because Spielberg wouldn't have been able to use the virtual camera system (he gets some crazy shots out of this)
Brónach 1,302
in that case the problem for me is the character design. but i'm sure you can do those things in 2D and with both 2D/3D elements. just not what Spielberg may be used to doing.

Edmilson 7,465
Anyone else think the pursuit of the falcon is Spielberg's best action scene from his post-2005 era? Sure, he didn't direct that many action scenes since then, but comparing with movies like KOTCS and RP1, the Bagghar chase is much more fun. Being able to control the camera while filming rather than planning it all out in storyboard like usual with animation I believe Spielberg has talked about how he likes being able to make spontaneous in-the-moment choices in terms of shot composition

Popular Post ragoz350 450
Decided to take a little dip into Tintin. The old version of Sir Francis and the Unicorn. As with many other scenes in the film, JW wrote two versions of the cue for Haddock's first vision (in the desert). In fact, the visions were originally organized in a different way: apparently, at first we were just shown two ships, and Francis giving orders [cues The Unicorn (unnumbered) and 1m20A Sailing with Sir Francis, recorded in 2010, were written for this version]. And already in the next vision (in the hospital) we were shown the fight with the pirates, the appearance of Rackham and the beginning of the confrontation [cue 1m21B Old Enemies Meet was written for start of this sequence]. This version can be seen in the featurette about music. That's why the old version is much shorter than the final version. In this version also interesting the pulsation of the drums throughout the cue (3 hand drums and 1 with sticks, dubbed by synth are indicated). The syncing in my video is very uncertain: I'm pretty sure that most of the shots have been redone over the year, but here's my rough attempt. Later, a full-length battle was created, as well as a teasing appearance by Rackham at the end. So in 2011 an insert was written for the end of The Unicorn (4m20R The Unicorn) and a new cue 4m19C Sea Battle. JW strategically adapted material from 1m21B Old Enemies Meet (1:00-1:25 in the video), and used a snippet from the old version (1:42-1:52), but everything else is original material. In fact, the percussion is also noteworthy here: the pulsation now indicated as 3 'pirate' drums was still to be heard a lot, and should even have appeared in the middle of 4m20R. However, apparently, they were already abandoned during the recording, and so the last bars of the insert were retimed, and even recorded without the click track (because the pulsation is now gone). @TheUlyssesian did a video with synced OST version, and I tried to restore this along with drums and other bits: the chime hit for the pirate flag, the glisses of the harps when the pirates descend, the flutes during the piano solo... Jilal 569
Great job, @ragoz350! I really like the extra percussion, it adds more momentum to the cue and gives it a bit of an exotic flair.
