ricsim88 got a reaction from Marc in French Horn Tribute to John Williams [ 2016 REMASTERED ]
I'm speechless. Unbelievable stuff. As much as I love JW,doing the same on trumpet wouldn't work as well. Horn quartet is an amazing ensemble to write for. Please tell me you have a high paying job in an orchestra. You certainly deserve it.
Cheers
Oh yeah. I wish you played in our orchestra...our principal horn is not really strong.

That would be awesome if it was the version. And Chris Martin went to record it. Great player

My guess is that this version will be one of the tracks, with the string version as the other. Both pieces are titles "With Malice Toward None" in the Hal Leonard Signature Edition published suite.

I hope one of the two Lincoln pieces is gonna be this version:

ricsim88 got a reaction from Bespin in "Emperor Waltz" from Strauss - "Across the Stars" from Williams
I played emperor waltz almost every year for the past 20...never noticed the Across the star reference. If I was to compare every piece by every composer to another composer I would go crazy. Every composer has been influenced by another. Doesn't matter what century.
Oh yeah, just finished playing 12 Nutcrackers. The similarities between Tchaikovsky's Trepak and JW Home Alone are minimal at best. Both fast and in 2/4 time. Pretty much it.
JW is definitely influenced but doesn't steal has blatantly as others. He's an incredibly crafty composer.

ricsim88 got a reaction from Pieter Boelen in "Jedi Steps" - The Concert Arrangement Version
Playing the suite tonight. We're not doing the concert arrangement of Jedi steps, we're playing the end credits version. I have to say it feels a bit weird to repeat Rey's theme and March of the Resistance so close after playing their respective movements. Of well, pretty fun to play as a lead trumpet player. Ensign Kim (Garrett Wang) is the host. Obviously we're playing a Star Trek medley

There's actually a suite available for orchestra, or will be very soon.

I would be very surprised if he didn't play most of it in Boston.

ricsim88 got a reaction from Ricard in Sony Classical to release Ultimate Star Wars Soundtrack Collection (January 8, 2016)
I hate CDs. I sold as many as I could. Love digital stuff. A lot less clutter in my house. Glad I bought the digital remastered LPs. They sound great.

ricsim88 got a reaction from artguy360 in The Force Awakens Sheet Music from Hal Leonard
It will be performed by my orchestra next season sometimes in October during our annual scifi/comic concert. I guess I shouldn't be saying this yet as next season hasn't been officially announced yet....
Last October we performed 2 Signature edition selections, Superman march and the whole SW suite. As lead trumpet that made for a pretty incredible concert. Really looking forward to play March of the resistance and Scherzo for X-wing. Hopefully we play the Jedi steps and finale as well.

You're so lucky!
Remember to keep practising those scales though...you'll need them for the March of the Resistance!

Totally agree with both statements. That being said, Raiders with the LSO performing is pretty amazing too.

He is still confirmed for Philly in May. My guess is he will perform TFA music at that concert, though obviously scheduling order to determine the "premiere."

ricsim88 got a reaction from karelm in Williams orchestrating The Force Awakens himself?
I agree. Look at what Ravel did for Moussorgsky's pictures at an exhibition(originally for piano) I guess Mozart didn't have access to the same instruments that his contemporaries had. Or at least the modern versions of those instruments. I'll use my instrument as an example...Mozart's trumpets had no valves, so were extremely limited to the amount of notes they could play. From the late 1800's it all changed. Ravel uses the trumpet beautifully, so does Shostakovitch and definitely JW. A word on John Adams since I just performed his chamber symphony. He writes from his computer for sure, and it seems only a computer can play this stuff the way it's written. Unbelievably difficult. Kind of fun though. -
ricsim88 got a reaction from Bespin in The fan's playlist: Rediscover the repertoire of JW
I played in MSO before Nagano was there. Mostly worked with Dutoit. I did work with Jacques Lacombe, both when studying and also with MSO.
