Does anyone know who the cover conductor is for Milano?

I might be wrong, but I don't think a cover conductor is planned as it was in London.

The concert at the Royal Albert Hall was called 'An Evening with John Williams in Concert', so when the Maestro fell ill after arriving in London it could have been easily renamed 'A Celebration of John Williams in Concert' - the title 'An Evening with John Williams In Concert' didn't determine whether it was "An Evening with the Artist's Music" or "An Evening with the Artist", even if everyone was buying tickets for Williams who would personally conduct.

In the case of Milan, the concert has no title, it only says 'John Williams, CONDUCTOR'. Therefore, in my opinion, replacing the conductor is not an option.

  2. A bit too many repetitions in relation to Berlin and Vienna, but still a few surprises (Love Theme from Superman, wow!), and maybe during the encores Williams will add something. I would also prefer if instead of Princess Leia's Theme in the program there was Han Solo and the Princess, and for example instead of Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra - The Adventures of Mutt, which hasn't been played for a long time. But I also understand that from Williams' point of view it's important that the concert is as attractive as possible as a whole, unrelated to other concerts. And I imagine that he wants to conduct certain pieces in this special place, with this particular orchestra, whether they were performed in Berlin and Vienna or not.

I agree, what really matters is experience. I'm sure it'll be as unique and exceptional as previous European concerts.

It would be great if this concert was also filmed and released!

Wow, great photos and a ton of them! Thanks for posting.

Yes, that is Jenny. He attends a lot of events with her. She has more reddish hair than Samantha Winslow and of course has a different facial structure. Here are some older photos but definitely show the above images are Jenny. These are from Getty images and are tagged with both their names along with JW.

I think that sometimes Jenny is mistaken for Samantha in photo captions. (Also, the below photos are almost 20 years old. I could not find a recent one of Samantha actually which makes me wonder if she is doing as well health-wise as Johnny seems to be.)

This photo is from 2016 (also from Getty Images) from the 44th Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute to John Williams

The iTunes EP he's referring to is a different Memoirs suite (from 2005) than the one Sony eventually gave us (from 2009) on CD in 2010.

    See here.

Thanks, I didn't know that. It doesn't change the fact that the iTunes EP of "Memoirs Of A Geisha" is unlikely to be a bonus CD on this album, because as far as I know, the session for the "A Gathering of Friends" was Williams' first recording with the New York Philharmonic.

Would’ve been nice if they’d released a deluxe version with a bonus CD with the iTunes EP of Memoirs Of A Geisha.

Unlikely. The Geisha suite was recorded with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and here we have an album recorded with The New York Philharmonic. Fortunately, the suite has already been released on CD.

By the way, it's a pity that two Williams' concertos, recorded few years ago under his baton with the Boston Symphony and the Boston Pops, have not been released on CD.  I mean Harp Concerto (On Willows and Birches) and Oboe Concerto.

Both are wonderful. Fortunately, we can listen to it on Spotify.

Maestro Williams is incredible. He’ll be two months shy of 91 years old in December, and it’s 9 months from now. How is he so confident that he’ll make it? Now I ADORE the Maestro, but let’s be realistic here. He’s at an age when it can be all over every day just like that. That’s just how old he is. I know that one can’t live like that, but still, he’s not 50 or 60, or even 70 years old anymore where he can plan ahead freely without having to worry about the end. But at his age it can happen anytime. And all the people around the world who are making plans, paying a lot of money to travel there and see him, what if something should happen like it did in 2018, or worse… I SINCERELY HOPE that nothing happens, but again, we should be realistic, and Mr. Williams should be as well. He’s planning ahead almost a year, like he was 18. I really hope all turns out great, but this is a huge gamble.

PS: Everything went smoothly in 2020, 2021 and this year(so far). Whoknows, he might live ‘til 100, and he’ll have at least 5 more active years. But all this is just speculation and our hope, and we don’t know for sure. I’m hoping for the best, but I was already scared back in 2007 or 2020. Those events turned out great, but I consider myself lucky that theydid.

Everyone is mortal, we all know that. Let us enjoy what is happening now, Williams' numerous plans, his fantastic creativity and activeness, without reminding us that life doesn't last forever. It will not change anything.

  7. Even if Marion's Theme is in the version we know from the two previous concerts - and I don't think so - there's still a lot of stuff here that wasn't in Vienna in 2020 and Berlin in 2021. The whole first part, Fawkes, Resistance and possibly some of the encores - Theme from Schindler's List, Rey, or maybe The Long Goodbye?

I really regret that I will not be here this time, after Vienna and Berlin, but I'm very lucky for those of you who have the ticket. Hopefully the DG has changed its mind and there will be a video, or at least an audio recording.

If they don't want to duplicate albums, they can wait for the premiere until 2023 after all!
