You're hilarious when you're in full blown panic mode.
Now I'm not one for unquestioning worship of soundtrack producers (a little too much of that going on around here), but if MM is producing it, option 3 ain't happening.
Option 2 is vaguely possible, perhaps if JW doesn't want tons of alternates released, but it's going to be 1 or 2.
All things considered, it ended up being a very nice weekend with my fiancée touring the city and catching up with several film music friends.
Yesterday afternoon, we gathered at the Max Steiner Bar in the Hotel Wien near the Prater. The meeting was set up by Mikael Carlsson (great guy). Me, Ilaria, Miguel and Peio stayed for a couple of hours chatting and having fun together. An Italian friend also joined. Later in the evening I met with Marian and Peio for a beer in a pub near Karlsplatz.
The city is great and a wonderful place for music and art lovers. Today I also stopped by to see the Musikverein and signed the “Cancelled” card on the wall—it was a truly lovely thing to see.
As it’s been already reported, Williams wants to reschedule the concert next year as he’s really looking forward to conduct the Wiener Philharmoniker at the Musikverein. Let’s hope this was the most unique “hurry up and wait” of music history 😊
All in all, it was a great weekend. Now heading to the airport to fly back home.
I went to Vienna despite the cancellation.
At the Musikverein there was a notice with some lovely scribbles by fans. I didn’t have the time or pen to add something myself, though.
Yes, it does seem to me very unlikely that they would have been unable to secure a replacement conductor familiar with John Williams's music at, what, ten days' notice? There are numerous conductors just in the UK alone who are excellent interpreters of his music who would have cleared their diaries and absolutely bitten the VPO's hands off at the prospect of conducting the orchestra at the Musikverein. Major orchestras find replacement conductors and performers all the time when the billed musicians are incapacitated, often with very little notice.
Far more likely to my mind is that either John Williams did not want anyone else 'stealing his thunder' (which is perfectly understandable, I am sure I would be the same) by getting in on his special gig and / or that the Vienna Philharmonic did not want to give just any random conductor the honour of being the first person to conduct a whole programme of John Williams at a venue as prestigious as the Musikverein.
Bats definitely isn't tracked, it's gorgeous and it follows an extended Forward to Time Past/Saving Buckbeak. We're also missing the Lupin vs. Buckbeak cue as well as that intense end of the second werewolf scene. Not to mention double trouble variations (Dumbledore's speech, meeting Buckbeak), Window to the Past (Remembering Lily, the walk in the woods, Harry and Sirius after the Shrieking Shack), the transition from the walk in the woods to the scene with the twins, and any time the Pettigrew motif appears. To name a few....
This chap on Classic FM is irritating me. Not only did he refer to the items on the programme as "songs" but he reckoned the second half would "build to a crescendo". Grr!
Dunno. Far out prediction: Star Wars won’t go the time travel route.
These kind of solutions to painting yourself into a corner plot wise are generally reserved for Star Trek. In fact introducing time travel would be less respectful of Star Wars legacy than anything that happened in TLJ.
I've spent nearly all of this morning working on it, but here it is. Jerry decided to give a crack at a thematic breakdown for John Powell's Solo: A Star Wars Story. Bear with me, the timestamps may be a half-second to a second off, but the idea is there. I also penned some themes as variations. Technically they are all variations, but I refer to it as more of a "not-the-way-it-is-normally-presented" or "harder to recognize as to what it is" theme. I also have incomplete beside some themes, indicating that only part of the theme is used briefly. Again, bear with me. I gave it a shot.
Just to clarify these are the new themes and the names I've given them:
