What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

Well, there IS a person (I don't know if it's always Lacey) in the surrounding shots. And if you look at 8:20 there is also a person. I think. And it's almost the same position as "lump of clothes".

My first thought is I wonder if he was sick and they were shooting around him.

The Death Of Dick Long - not about the demise of a porn star despite its title, this fitfully amusing dark comedy set in a small Alabaman town revolves around the 'death by misadventure' of the titular character on a night when he and his friends decide to 'get weird' and their subsequent inept efforts to cover up their involvement.

Braven - actioner with Jason Momoa in which he heads with his family to their holiday cabin, only to find themselves beset by drug traffickers. It takes until about halfway through for the shootouts, punch-ups etc to really get going but they're pretty up to scratch when they do. Slightly preposterous, but then aren't most action flicks?

The last mam on Earth (1964)

The first adaptation of the novel "I am a legend".

It's not very good. The first 3rd of the film is pretty boring. But I like the concept.

It's funny to learn that it was shot in Italy.

Being stuck on the Amalfi Coast with no people... god how awful ;-)

We were watching gv when a Universal film came on with its bombastic theme and it hit me watch E.t. the Extraterrestrial. Neithrr of us had watched it since the pandemic so I put on the BR. I paid close attention to the music. Every beat ever note is ingrained in my being. We watched all through the credits. David and I did not try to hide any tears. Its still my favorite movie and score. David said shat's next and I said E.T. part 1 aka Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Shockingly my husband had never seen it. Again every note every beat is a part of me. .

After what he did to Chris Rock (totally unnecessary), I don't want to see any more films featuring that loathsome man.

He punched a guy who insulted his wife. There exist bigger character flaws in this world than that.

I rather struggle with his Scientology background.

Avatar. The other half missed the sequel in cinemas but couldn't remember what happened in the original so we watched it on D+ by way of a catch-up. Visually it holds up really well (new LG OLED 4K TV helps... I have to say, the colours are astonishing), with FX that are more or less flawless most of the time. I could probably have done without the narration - it feels like an unnecessary crutch, and it's long enough that you don't need it as a shortcut to fill in the backstory. Having said that, for 3 hour film, if sure doesn't feel it. As ever, Cameron's US army villains are insufferably annoying. I get having a boo hiss villain, but Quaritch is so over the top I just found him grating every time he appeared on screen. I gather there's some deleted scenes which show earth in a parlous state (albeit self-inflicted) which could give a little bit (and I mean an absolutely minuscule amount) of justification to the plundering of Pandora. The Na'Vi seem a bit more stereotypical primitive/spiritual than in the sequel (but that could be my imagination).

Horner's score is, of course, wonderful, and the OST seems to cover the major highlights, notwithstanding the (approx) 104539727 different boots/recording sessions floating around clearly add a whole lot more than the OST and what appears in the film.

The funny thing is he was actually reading a Spider-Man comic book in this movie and he climbed on walls, jumped over fences like it's his profession.

Yes, I have the blu-ray and I hoped I would like it more this time. I think Mitchell's It Follows is close to genius (okay, that's slightly hyperbolic but still!)

A simple movie but a masterpiece nonetheless.

All 4 kids play magnificently.

The only thing I don't like is that disgusting story with the pie competition. I think this was uncalled for and doesn't add anything to the plot.

I like that (semi-classical) bloomy piano theme. Is that Jonny Greenwood?

This is the piece you're referring to, and it is indeed by Greenwood:

Great score. Incredible film. probably my favorite PTA after There Will Be Blood

Barbarella - cult 60s sexy sci-fi fluff, with Jane Fonda at her most toothsome in (and indeed out of) a series of skimpy outfits. The bad guy is called Duran Duran (hey, what a great name for a band!).

I absolutely love this movie. Don’t know what that says about me.  The soundtrack is appropriately groovy, thematic, and easy to listen to.  Barbarella is a nice companion piece to DeLaurentiis’ Flash Gordon, which I also adore.  I can’t wait to add the new Arrow 4K on my shelf next to their similarly presented Flash Gordon.

And I just happen to be seeing Duran Duran live tomorrow!

Since I received my copy of LLL Gorky Park.

I finally watched the movie.

Mmm... it was too long.

The beginning was promising but the plot and its development became messy and boring as time past.

And the character writing was quite thin and cold. I could never relate to any of the main protagonists.

Horner's score made up for a lot of weak scenes and weak editing.

@Steffromuk,

I completely disagree with your assessment of the fabulous GORKY PARK, but I wholeheartedly endorse your right to post your views.

Horner's score is great.

Btw, did you spot Emperor Palpatine?

I deed! Haha! And he even had a line that sounded like it was straight out of return of the jedi.

Suburbicon (2017)

MV5BMDE2MzMxNzQtYzVkYi00MmZmLThhZDgtMDdj

Dark (black?) comedy from George Clooney (his best movie yet?) and written by the Coen brothers. Suburbicon is generally underrated and is worth to be watched for Matt Damon's performance alone. 7/10

Everyone knows his best film is leatherheads.

Haven't seen that one because of the low ratings everyone (pros and amateurs) is giving it.

I was kidding on the square. I genuinely like that movie, and it almost ruined modern football for me. It's not the greatest film ever made, but I enjoyed it.

Jurassic Park - 30th anniversary screening ... Spielberg in his popcorn-blockbuster pomp. Still a terrific thrill-ride adventure, with a nicely wry turn from Jeff Goldblum as 'chaos theory' expert Ian Malcolm.

HP3 again. You know, there are enough Marauder's clues in it after all. Not everything needs to be spelled out. I somehow never realised just how... joyous this movie is as a child.

dare I say, the book would be better if it did some things the same way.

unfortunately most writing for these movies is all over the place, either far too literal, or uninteresting

I always thought the HP films got better from the third one as the books got too long to be presented almost verbatim in film and so they had to be cut down to a more streamlined narrative that is better suited to the medium of film* plus a more interesting director than Chris Columbus... well, then they got David Yates.

*interesting about the "new" HP TV series as I always thought it would have been better as a GoT type miniseries where the episodic nature of the production would be a better structural fit for the books. And yes, I know I've made this comment many times, but I stick by it!
