This Superman movie isn't going to dethrone Christopher Reeve, I reckon.

Uninspired choice of composer aside, I'm actually hugely optimistic for the movie itself! Even if it won't dethrone Superman '78, I think it at least has a good chance of being the best since.

Superman is my favorite fictional character (don't let my username/avatar fool you :P) and Gunn has been saying all the right things for me in regard to story, tone, character. The comics he's cited as his key sources of inspiration are among my all-time favorites. I think all the casting choices so far have been spot on. Not to mention Guardians 3 was my favorite Marvel movie in quiiiiite a while.

I'm hyped.

Regardless of who does the score, I'm 85% sure that Gunn will use this song at some point in the movie.

If he doesn't, I think there will be one of those "slower and depressing" covers for the trailer.

There was a surprising amount of pop songs that referenced Superman from the 90s and early 2000s

Spin Doctors - 1991 - Jimmy Olsen's Blues

A Tribe Called Quest - 1993 - Award Tour

Matchbox 20 - 1996 - Real World

Our Lady Peace - 1997 - Superman's Dead

3 Doors Down - 2000 - Kryptonite

Five For Fighting - 2000 - Superman

(posted above)

Eminem - 2002 - Superman

Dave Matthews - 2002 -Where Are You Going?

Lazlo Bane - 2002 - Superman

Why so many? No idea!  Once Superman Returns came out it all stopped though, lol

Not familiar with that one!

Was it the death of Superman arc in the comics from '92-'93 that made him so popular for a while?

At least I'm glad to see JJ Abrams is no longer directing.

After the garbage that were STID and TRoS, I really don't like him much anymore.

JJ Abrams was never attached to this movie.  Superman: Legacy is James Gunn's movie that is rebooting the DC Universe.

JJ Abrams's Superman movie is still in development and is an "Elseworlds" story, unattached to the greater DCU continuity - just like Todd Philip's Joker movies and Matt Reeves' The Batman movies

I believe the Abrams focuses on the the alternate Superman, as in Calvin Ellis. Not sure if it wasn’t just a rumour though.

Some DC rumors, at least one of which Gunn claims to be untrue. The most interesting one for this forum is that Aronofsky is in talks to direct a Plastic Man movie.

For those who don't know, Plastic Man is this guy:

Plastic Man | Dc comics superheroes, Dc comics characters, Dc comics art

He is known as a more comedic superhero, so Aronofsky (whose films are as "fun" as suffering a car accident) is a curious choice.

Unless you are 12 years old and never watched a Superman movie, I don't understand why anyone would be interested in seeing another movie about Superman (or Batman). That's why Watchmen was so refreshing to me because finally we got something else (in subject and style).

Because 80 years of source material means nothing for further adaptations? It's not the big blue boy scout's fault WB keeps refusing to go past the same few elements that have dominated most Supes films at this point.

So what do you want to see in a Superman movie and that you think the world hasn't seen before?

A return to the respect and reverence that Donner had for the material, would be a good start. A score by JW wouldn't go a miss, either.

Not sure if this is completely on-topic here, but I don’t think it merits its own thread - Teen Titans Vol. 3 albums is coming next week.

I only saw season 1 and some parts of season 2, which I vaguely remember. As a kid I really liked that show but never finished watching it for some reason.

I think my experience with the show is the same as yours - I watched one or two seasons.  I thought it was pretty good, so just one of those things I fell off of for time considerations.

12-year-old me really liked the two part episode where Deathstroke forces Robin to work for him, or he'd kill the other Titans. I think it was the season 1 finale? Anyway, the cliffhanger between Parts 1 and 2 was so tense that on the next day me and my brothers begged our parents to come to our grandma's house early so we could catch Part 2 in time (she had cable back then, my parents didn't).

Those were the times before streaming...

r/DCcomics - [Film/TV] First look at David Corenswet as Superman in James Gunn’s ‘Superman’!

You might want to shake the lead out there, Supes — something's going on outside.

People online are saying that what seems to be a ship firing a pink light beam on the background is actually Brainiac's ship. Brainiac is a villain from the Superman's and Justice League's Rogues Gallery that hasn't appeared yet in the live action movies.

Fun Fact:

Brainiac was one of the main baddies in the script for Tim Burton's failed Superman movie. He reportedly wanted Christopher Walken to play him.

There is nothing Super about this marketing.  The scene where Kick-Ass was trying on his mail order scuba suit in the mirror had more heroic urgency than this.  And speaking of rubber scuba suits, I'm tired of the same style for modern superhero "tights".  Can you imagine wearing this under your Clark Kent clothes?  Do better, Gunn.

Yeah, the image is underwhelming. Supes casually getting dressed and looking a little annoyed at having to go out to deal with whatever threat. Not a fan of the rubberized gear either. The boots remind me of the oven mitts I have. lol

On CBR, people are saying Supes's new suit is similar to the one he used during The New 52 in the early 2010s:

Superman from DC's New 52 comics.

The New 52 saw many design changes in iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the other members of the Justice League. For this particular era of DC Comics, Superman's new suit had an entirely different origin than in previous iterations. This version of the suit was explained to be Kryptonian battle armor, as opposed to the handmade suit that Superman typically wore in the Golden Age. This suit was specifically designed to detect Kryptonian DNA, making it especially useful for those of pureblooded descent from the endangered alien peoples.

Like most costume changes in the superhero realm, Superman's battle armor suit was hated by some and loved by others. Nevertheless, it inarguably provided the hero with numerous advantages in combat, including extra protection against superpowered enemies. While some argued that it was overdesigned, Superman's New 52 suit was far less exaggerated than other comic book makeovers that have occurred over the years, thereby making it a mostly inoffensive costume change. The suit also connected Superman to his Kryptonian heritage in a way that is all too often lost in certain adaptations of the character, always reminding him where he came from and what he had to fight to protect.

https://www.cbr.com/james-gunns-dcu-superman-costume-new-52-inspiration-explained/

The weird part is that the New 52 also inspired Snyder's Superman (MoS came out in 2013 during the heyday of TN52) and that version is considered "unpopular". But I'm sure it's a mostly visual stuff to remind general audiences of the Supes they are probably more familiar with, and in terms of storytelling Gunn's Superman will be vastly different.

I would never have been able to connect all of those dots but I clearly picked up on the vibe and I like it. I read All Star Superman and it was OK. My favorite Superman of the last 30 years was Superman for All Seasons. My favorite Superman EVER was in the two novels Last Son of Krypton and Miracle Monday. And I can get all of those Supermans from this.

I don't like the collar and I recognized it from The New 52. But that's a minor quibble. I didn't like the more closed neckline in Superman Returns either.

And may have been being snarky when I pointed out in a previous post that it was a still, but seriously. If this was motion and he was just casually and slowly putting his stuff together I could see the complaint. But this is a still and it's not us putting on our shoes, it's Superman. He's going to be faster than a speeding bullet.

There's a lot of stuff I think Gunn can screw up (wholesome is not on my list of his most prominent film making ticks) but this pic ain't it.

I’m kind of bored with Superhero movies at the moment but I’m actually interested in this one because Millie Alcock is really good!
