Mr. Breathmask 555
Going through iTunes, I can find when I last listened to these scores in full (I'm not counting single tracks, because those probably just came up on Shuffle at some point). So here goes: 1. Minority Report: October 29th 2014 2. Saving Private Ryan: October 23rd 2014 3. Home Alone: December 24th 2015 4. Nixon: October 23rd 2014 5. Schindler's List: January 4th 2015 6. War Horse: November 26th 2014 7. JFK: October 21st 2014 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark: October 16th 2014 (I think I might have played it in my car once or twice since then) 9. Far and Away: October 21st 2014 (this has definitely been played more recently, as it was on a car playlist as well) 10. A.I.: June 21st 2015 So, yeah. I guess I should listen to Raiders again soon. And maybe A.I.. The others don't interest me as much.

igger6 894
1. Minority Report—Isolated tracks on my various iPod playlists; some discussion in an "action tracks" thread a couple of years ago turned me on to satisfyingly B-list action cues like "Anderton's Great Escape," and re-watching the movie (which I do every couple of years and you should too), turned me on to the Herrmann-esque main theme in its nervous and (ingenious) heartwarming variations. I vividly remember joking that Williams was just "plugging it in" when I saw this in the theater, so it's nice to have found something of value in it. 2. Saving Private Ryan—once a couple of years ago, but then I realized that "Hymn to the Fallen" is the whole show here. 3. Home Alone—Isolated tracks at Christmastime every year. This might be heresy here, but I bought the LLL expansion of Home Alone 2, and I think it offers all the highlights of the original, plus some great new melodies. ("Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas" is the most festive thing in either score; just avoid the version with the insipid lyrics.) 4. Nixon—WORLD PREMIERE AS I WRITE THIS! "The 1960s—The Turbulent Years" is weirdly awesome! It's like The Lost World and "TIE Fighter Attack" got locked in a room with orders to continue the species. P.S. "Growing Up in Whittier" sounds like "Dobby the House-Elf." Search your feelings... P.P.S. Does every track on this album begin with the drum from LOST? P.P.P.S. "Across the Stars" just showed up on low brass in "Making a Comeback." 5. Schindler's List—Finally bought a used copy a couple of years ago, but the album is such a deflating listening experience that I mainly stick to the Main Theme and "Remembrances" on my iPod now. It's flawless music, but you can't always wear black. I grade papers to film scores; I don't need more reasons to be depressed. 6. War Horse—Just went through the CD again a couple of weeks ago. Lots of filler in the latter half, but so many catchy motifs that you keep sitting up and taking notice. (I got exhausted trying to read summaries of the various farm/friendship/family motifs in this score. It's all nice. Some if it's less nice.) 7. JFK—A year or two ago, to rip some tracks to iTunes. Now they mostly pass by unnoticed, except for the main and end titles. 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark—I have this on vinyl and CD, and it never gets old. I last spun the record about three months ago. 9. Far and Away—At least once a year. I love this one. "Blowing Off Steam" and "The Land Race," obviously, but I also have a soft spot for "Oklahoma Territory," "Joseph and Shannon," and basically anything that quotes the love theme or features the Chieftains, and that's half the album. The end credits are not to be missed! (Footnote: "The Land Race" played on the Treasure Planet trailer, and it's a better use of the Maestro's music than anything in Far and Away. Seriously, if they gave Oscars for trailers... James Newton Howard ripped off every texture in this trailer in his actual score for the film and still produced some of the best themes of his career.) 10. A.I.—Once a couple of years ago to decide which tracks to buy. Now I love "Where Dreams Are Born," "Hide and Seek," and "Abandoned in the Woods," but somebody convince me why I need to shell out for the expansion of this one. A. A. Ron 1,742
1. Minority Report -- An action track from this score appeared in one of my playlists about 2 weeks ago. That's all I've heard from this score. 2. Saving Private Ryan -- Same sorta thing, heard Hymn to the Fallen about 3 weeks ago. Haven't heard much else. 3. Home Alone -- About 2 weeks ago. The new LLL reissue has actually gotten quite a lot of play from me. 4. Nixon -- Don't think I've ever heard it. 5. Schindler's List -- Played the tangos last week, and I think Remembrances a couple days later. 6. War Horse --About 2 weeks ago, right before Home Alone I believe. 7. JFK -- Heard part of it in a John Williams theme quiz, probably more than a year ago. 8. Raiders of the Lost Ark -- Listened to The Basket Chase just this morning actually. 9. Far and Away -- Not really familiar with this score either. Heard a bit of it at the same time I heard Hymn to the Fallen 3ish weeks ago. 10. A.I. -- Listened to some of the LLL release just before New Year's. On 1/26/2016 at 3:50 PM, Stefancos said: There's no real need to invest in the 3 CD version. This is idiocy. Seriously!
