Running long was the ultimate enemy of the Oscars telecast. This year’s Oscars was the longest ceremony since 2018, running a full 39 minutes over their allotted time. ... In the first opening monologue, Wanda Sykes joked that “The Power of the Dog” was too long. “I watched that movie three times, and I’m almost halfway through.” The film is shorter than seven of the 10 Best Picture nominees. What Smith did, was so wrong that nobody cares about Rock's possible distasteful joke (which, if he knew about JPS's condition, it was, but if he didn't know about it, it wasn't imho). Richard Penna 3,694
If he'd limited it to a non-sweary but verbal comeback, we'd be probably talking about how Smith stood up for his wife. But he resorted immediately to physical violence. TBH, I'm surprised that he wasn't escorted from his seat, at least after a few moments once the producers had realised what had happened. What would a theatre owner do if a patron walked on stage and hit an actor? They'd be out of there. Both Rock and Smith made bad decisions last night but I think Smith's was worse. So many more professional and dignified ways to handle it. JTN
