Inspired by the 'Best classical album covers' thread ... but I'm going in the opposite direction.

Post your own favourite abominations!

I'm pretty sure a former president saw that cover and....

Those were all excellent, just one for anyone looking for an alternate Planet of the Apes cover.

so what? it's still terrible

none of the type breathes and the kerning of the type at the bottom is putrid.

anways, here's another:

What’s so odd about this is that Darth Maul was famously red so don’t know what possessed them to turn him blue.

They perhaps wanted to capitalise on the success of yet another 1999 icon.

Yeah ...  their name contains the word 'Duo' and indeed the cover pic bears this out, but an entire symphony orchestra is namechecked at the bottom.

Such a weird one. Legit conductor (I have lots of Dausgaard, he's great with 20th/21st century Scandi music in particular), a fine orchestra and an excellent, well regarded label. Sometimes marketing just get it wrong (OK, sometimes is probably an understatement...).

I only stumbled across it because I was browsing Dausgaard on Amazon (I have his Langgaard and Hamerik sets, and heard him live with Nielsen and Langgaard a few months ago). It has one 5 star review, and the description sounds quite odd but interesting, so maybe the cover is appropriate:

So many questions...

The main one being 'How come the band just seems to consist of several clones of the trombonist ... who hasn't even named the band after himself?'

Presumably he was the only one who showed up for the photography session.

Hip-hop was the top-selling music genre in 1999, so marketing must've decided to put grills on Kool Maul Dee here.

That's pretty shitty as well:

Alive Soundtrack

Cut them some slack, they had to eat their friends, they are just happy to be alive. ;)

Original title before revision:

Eaten Alive

You could look at it the other way. They had to eat their friends, and be featured on a poorly designed album cover.

I don’t think we should be joking with this, it really happened to those poor people… 😔

And also they had to eat their friends.

Which reminds me: I finally watched Tobe Hooper's (no relation) 'Eaten Alive' recently. I needed a shower afterwards... An effective but nasty little film.

The new one isn’t much of an improvement, either.

Maybe this soundtrack is cursed.

In their defence, they didn’t have much to work with.

I have no problem with the ALIVE poster in itself, but the huge, red borders are a bit irritating. Having huge borders is never a good idea. I think my main troublemaker in this area is Mancini's THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE (as it happens, also my favourite score of his). Those huge, white borders make it look like someone just slapped the poster onto a white Paint backdrop and couldn't care less about cropping it to CD size.

Looks like they copied the cassette cover.

That's a good point, actually, because the cassette obviously doesn't have it:

I haven’t heard this one, so you’re obviously recommending it since you’re saying it’s your favorite Mancini score?

I’ve got to check it out.

A new spin on smoking being bad for your health?

Incidentally, is this the same Bruce Hornsby who used to have a Range and had a big 80s hit with 'The Way It Is'?
