Joni Wiljami reacted to Alex in Am I reading this right- a new ending for Indiana Jones 5 and which needs to be scored?
It’s going to be Phoebe Waller-Bridge stabbing Indy through the chest with a lightsaber, before turning to the camera Fleabag style and putting the fedora on her head, winking at the audience before riding off into the sunset.

A lovely breakdown of the film presentation of the score (though it sounds a bit different from the music-only mix I'm used to):

well, I strongly believe that Williams's ost presentations are addressed to the general public and not the hardcore fan or musician/composer, who would like to hear the full arc of the music in the film, how the themes are developed and varied through the duration of a movie and so on..
That's why I'm not a super fan of his ost presentations.
I think I have said it elsewhere, I was so disappointed when I heard his E.T. ost when I was a teen.

I just saw the film. I absolutely loved it. And seriously I thought the score was perfect in it. It’s used in just the right scenes which makes it’s appearances all the more impactful. The scene towards the end with the dad and the letter as well as the scene where they move to the new house are a couple major examples where the original music added a whole other level to the film. Gonna miss this as I swear I really only get this kind of feeling in film scores from John Williams.

I have listened to it a couple of times, it's nice, but I don't really have a desire to listen to it again. No doubt I will revisit it later. I'm really into listening to Temple of Doom At the moment. An amazing score! I know A very different score but in a different league to The Fablemans, in my opinion ofcourse!

The most overrated JW score for me has to be Jurassic Park. Never liked it. I mean: La la Laaaa ... La la laaaa ... La la Laaaa ... Really?

I love The Fabelmans theme, but there's something that connects to me even more with Dear Basketball. It's one of my most wanted releases.... I hope there's a way to include it on some CD compilation in the future, or maybe a digital release.

Well if you understand anything about music, musicality and the craftsmanship, he's quite  much above anybody else currently and actually for so many years. And I think this forum is good for a fan like me.

I've been listening to this and some portions almost suggest Lincoln of all things to me.

Like Mother and Son seems like it could get into a rendition of With malice towards none anytime.

I think the obvious point about this score is the very obvious quality. It's modest but clearly written by a master.

I'll be honest. Do we perceive a high quality because we know it is Williams? We will never know the answer to that.

But to me this represents craftsmanship and a finished sound quality that I expect from him even though this is a really tiny score - in scope and execution.

EDIT: Let's put it this way - do you think I am putting it on my list of the 5 best scores of the year? You bet I am.

Joni Wiljami reacted to publicist in The Fabelmans - OST Album
Trust me, i wouldn't. I listened to enough 'promising' young musicians in this field to know how to level my expectations.

But what we find here is a typical case of reverse engineering gone wrong: people get something simple and unassuming, which has not exactly a lot of layers, and then construct deep meaning via third-hand inferences and sometimes wishful-thinking observations that are completely off-base.

There just isn't enough substance in the short musical contributions by JW that allow for more than the comparably unexciting conclusion that it's not even trying to add something to Williams' familiar idiom - it's just a small parade of familiar strokes passing by (orchestrated with his usual flair, but that isn't saying much when we are talking a few strings, piano and celeste).

Like i said earlier, i find the decision to treat the music as exactly that - a pleasant little souvenir - perfectly fair. But apart from press releases by Amblin/Universal it's hard to tout it as anything of much substance (an Oscar win for this would be exactly one of those sops to sentiment that is rightly criticized, though i have no idea if there even is a more deserving winner, which is a shattering conclusion for something that used to be a favourite art form of mine long ago).
