Drawgoon 104
No puns in the track titles this time. As one of the very few people who appreciates his crazy titles I must say I am disappointed, but I can fully understand the decision, as the subject of this movie is too "sensitive" for that sort of humor. Edmilson 8,518
I reckon only this and Rogue One are the only "pun-less" Giacchino scores since the mid 2000s or so. Before that, there were only his very early scores, before Lost, The Incredibles, etc. Anyway, R1 eventually got its own punified titles, which he probably won't do with this one here. Jay 38,810
Rogue One's pun titles weren't an "eventually" thing - they were inside in CD booklet. So we still only have them for the cues that made the OST album.

Thor 8,100
As much as I dislike Giacchino, I'm willing to give this one an open chance. I've always been interested in the story, and I love ALIVE, both film and score. [Edit: Sampled it now, and no -- this was no door opener either. Lots of those gnarling LOST elements here, that no doubt works in the film, but that I find hard to listen to alone]

Popular Post tomsmoviemadness 3,422
I listened to the score during a walk this morning. Maybe it had to do with the headspace I was in, but this really hit me. It actually made me really emotional. I think it's an incredible score. I'm a big fan of Giacchino. For me it doesn't matter if he does big blockbusters or smaller films, I like almost anything he does. I really waited to hear anything of the score until the album was released and I'm glad I did. I feel this is a score which is very good in it's restraint. There are some grander moments earlier in the score, but what I appreciate is that it paints the picture of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. There are some beautiful passages for piano, strings and percussion. The theme that runs through the score is beautiful and in the last six tracks cements itself as one of Giacchino's most beautiful. It's on those final six cues that Giacchino's music explodes. You have the sadness in "Numa Accepts His Place" than the anticipation and power of "Andes Ascent" & "Onward" with the choir and percussion. Then "Found" and "Home" are just so beautiful. I eslecially love the guitar in "Found". I love this score! Can't wait to hear it in context. 1977, Yavar Moradi, Ollie and 1 other

thestat 402
Love some Gia but not sure about this one. Loads of dissonance as fits the subject, but it is just so close to JNH's Alive score for the same topic as to be....redundant? The guitar plucking theme, the uplifting chorales, the dissonance etc. At least, JNH had some balls to the wall early 1990s action scoring for the climbing sequences Brónach

Popular Post Jay 38,810
Huh, I didn't realize this was recorded in London at Abbey Road! Society of the Snow Michael Giacchino 16,95€ Ref: QR544 Quartet Recods and Netflix Music are proud to present Michael Giacchino’s (LOST, THE INCREDIBLES, SUPER 8, JO JO RABBIT, Academy-Award winner for UP!) emotionally and sensitive score for J.A. Bayona’s new film, SOCIETY OF THE SNOW. The film tells the true story of what happened in 1972 when Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they must resort to extreme measures to stay alive. This is the second time that Michael Giacchino has worked with J.A. Bayona since collaborating on JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM. For SOCIETY OF THE SNOW, the composer took the story and constructed it narratively from the first scene to the last, creating a kind of progression that parallels the progression of the group, creating a highly dramatic and by turns deeply emotional, tragically haunting, and beautifully innocent arc. Composed for orchestra, percussion and choir, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, this CD edition comes in a deluxe digipack designed by Mo Shafeek, with a separate booklet featuring liner notes by Bayona. https://quartetrecords.com/product/society-of-the-snow/ tomsmoviemadness, enderdrag64 and Yavar Moradi

Jay 38,810
I opened my physical copy. The art design is nice - simple but very effective in its simplicity. The credits have one very strange part in it: Is that just a placeholder that nobody went back and changed to the real location!? Or are they trying to make some kind of joke? And the note from Bayona has one instead of "I" at like double the font size of everything else, pretty weird thing to slip through. Makes me wonder if a not-final version of the booklet is what got printed? enderdrag64
Luke Skywalker 1,929
"Album produCD by" that could be a pun title If it was a vinyl would it say Album produLP by? Well the mask of zorro as one big missing "W"...the jurassic teeth fiasco... even the masters at craft do mistakes. Edmilson 8,518
For me the weirdest thing here is not even the "Score Producd by" but rather the "Score Mixed at ???". No, I'm not kidding, someone did put three question marks there. How come the responsible for writing the characters didn't even know where it was mixed? And even if that information was somehow impossible to get, why not ommit it entirely from the liner notes? It would've been less embarrassing than these question marks. Jay 38,810
What do you mean? A remake is when you have rights to an existing film, and remake it. Two completely different filmmakers making a movie about an actual thing that really happened is just.... two movies. The one that happened to come out later isn't considered to be a remake of one that came out first.
