Disco Stu 15,495
1:50 - 2:19 I love this little section in the Minority Report score. I can't quite tell what the orchestration is. I know I hear clarinets and horns, with that cool cello rhythm coming in and out. What else is there? Maybe some soft trumpets? It's great. FUN FACT! The first thread I ever created here at Jay Dubya Fan was really just an excuse to talk about how much I love this score:

At 3:36, 3:40, 3:45 and 3:49 Agreed. JW is a master when it comes to these arrangements. This is a bit like the trumpets playing the rhythmic phrases during the main title of Star Wars (you know what I mean!). Usually you can hear it, but sometimes (like in the case of the prequels) you can barely hear it, but it's always there and I always take note of it, because it's just so fucking awesome. Holko 9,593
Very nice idea to quote "Spanish Ladies" for Quint's thinking. On my second listening of the score, I just stopped here and said What? Captain Haddock's Theme in Jaws? Of course I realised very quickly that Quint sings it all the time, but Haddock starts out pretty damn similar and finishes with a mirrored progression if I'm not mistaken - Spanish Ladies goes from high to gradually lower, while Haddock goes higher. The connection makes sense, since Haddock is also a grumpy old seafarer, and there are no shanties featuring Blistering Barnacles or Thundering Typhoons that I know of (and I 100%-ed AC4 twice!). Popular Post Xinau 14
What a great thread... just discovering it now. Bummer that a lot of the YouTube content has been pulled, but appreciate the timing & track references. This is actually one of my pet loves about JW's scores -- just these little moments that he drops in there, sometimes with these amazing themes that are never heard again. And it's always perfectly set to the story beats in the visuals (as if the musical accomplishment by itself wasn't enough). Not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but I feel like track 8 (He is the Chosen One) of the TPM soundtrack is basically an entire track full of these. These mysterioso chords at 0:03 to 0:24 that segue into something that sounds like it's going to be the Force theme, but doesn't quite get there: This painfully beautiful coda out of Anakin's theme at 0:31 and into this amazing religioso low brass chorale at 0:44 (segment ends around 1:01): This 12/8 agitato string figure that starts at 1:38, is joined by a partial statement of the Force theme, and then the segment winds down with a series of tender cadences starting about 2:01, the last one (2:14) punctuated with harp & celeste: And the end of this track -- I just wanna hug it, and squeeze it, and call it George. 3:20 starts with another one of these moving cadence passages that are all over this track, and then JW just casually drops this beautiful hymn for strings and winds (3:27; which we never hear again, AFAIK) which winds down with the horns changing the character from lyrical to noble. And can we just marvel at the precision of the LSO brass on that fanfare that ends the track? Every time I hear this I'm just stunned with the uniformity of articulation and note length, and better than even money it was that way right from the first reading: Now, if I were a film music composer, I gotta think I would give my left nut/ovary to have composed any one of these moments. And JW's scores have countless of these things. Will, Holko, artguy360 and 1 other

Popular Post Loert 2,520
Since this score seems to have been made specifically for this thread I guess I'll get started with a few of my favourite examples: 2:33 - 2:40: Love the plucked strings and clarinets in the background, such a cool effect! 1:27 - 1:47: Awesome statement of Rose's theme of course, but what I find particularly interesting here is the subtle use of dissonance in the background, as if the music is fighting its way upward through rubble. Listen out for the slightly awkward chords in the brass from 1:28, the "intentionally" messy rushing strings between 1:35-1:37, and the note clashes in the brass from 1:38. All this shouldn't work...but it does, and not only does it work but it improves it too!
