  2. What does JWFan think of the Pandora OST?
  3. I didn't purchased many JW's CD, I mean at the exact time they were released. Jurassic Park, Schindler's List... Then in 1996, I bought the E.T. remastered score. God, I was furious that it didn't contain the "Over The Moon" piano track. I didn't understand at all why!!! Then I opened the Pandora box and discovered the complexity of John Williams's discography... It took me 9 years to find enough courage (and ressources!) to go with my own website! Hey, BTW I have a website, don't you know??? http://www.goplanete.com/johnwilliams/music/disco/albums.htm
  4. It was released with 4 bonus tracks in 2001, then in SACD (real or false I don't know) in 2016 (12 tracks). https://www.discogs.com/Henry-Mancini-The-Pink-Panther-Music-From-The-Film-Score/release/8472696 https://www.discogs.com/Henry-Mancini-The-Pink-Panther-Music-From-The-Film-Score/release/8472696 Mancini... that's a big Pandora box to open, I never had the courage yet to jump in!
  5. I get PANDORA as part of my Siriusxm service. But, I don't think I can choose what I want to hear. Jay, Are either of these downloads okay? Png and Jpeg seem to be same size. THANKS#

  7. How is streaming done ? Is is direct from VS or from a service Like Pandora.. Do you pay per cue or per album. Is it free on sites you have a subscription?
  8. I'm going bananas about Jerry Goldsmith, it's like if I just discovered the pandora box.

  10. Got it from this seller. Looks like they only have one left right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Disney-World-Pandora-World-of-Avatar-Soundtrack-NEW-CD/313154387291
  11. I knew this idea because The New World is one of my most listened scores ever, specially the tracks with the love theme (Forbidden Corn, Apparition in the Fields, Pocahontas and Smith, All is Lost, Rolfe Proposes, etc.). Then, I listened to Avatar again a few weeks ago, and I was pleased to see that Horner brought it again. I guess it's his way of picturing a romantic, poetic view from the forest (of Virginia and then of Pandora) and the people that inhabit it. I would like to see if more scores used that, since I liked it. Mostly because I associate it with one of my favorite scores ever.
  12. He then in a rather typical fashion just repurposed a lot of his music from Apocalypto for the people and jungles of Pandora, almost wholesale. The choral vocals were something more unique though.
  13. Most of the money went to the cutting edge CGI, so the music budget was tiny. Because of that, they had to do substantial parts of the score electronic. No wonder Back to Titanic was recorded with the LSO. If believe that, if it was up to Horner, he'd have recorded Titanic with the LSO normally. But then again, neither of his Cameron collabs went easily: -Aliens: Horner and Cameron almost fought on the recording stage. -Titanic: Small music budget, orchestra only during the sinking action scenes, Cameron didn't want a song and demanded lots and lots and lots of rewrites. -Avatar: That one apparently came out without fights, but Horner recorded hours and hours of music, and had to do lots of research on musical traditions of indigenous people to create Pandora's musical tradition.
  14. The latest Joe Kraemer album is out: Direct order: https://lalalandrecords.com/pandora-season-one/ Samples: 1. Attack on New Portland (4:14) 6. The Protectors (4:37) 9. Escaping the Protectors (3:07) 13. Infected Outpost (4:57) 15. The Battle for Earth (2:42)
  15. Per LLL Twitter: "Limited Edition Soundtrack CDs available to order at lalalandrecords.com on 1/28 at noon pst - #DARKMAN 30th Anniv. 2-CD Expanded Set by @dannyelfman - expanded #HOFFA by #DavidNewman & #PANDORA Season 1 by @joekraemer & @PenkaKouneva ! #PandoraCW #DannyElfman #SamRaimi" Don't believe me? Google it, I can't access social media on this contuter. Heck yeah for Darkman!
  16. Terrible, albeit expected news. I haven't liked a single thing Franglen has done as solo composer, and his attempt at 'recreating'/arranging Horner on MAG 7 and PANDORA is one of the most lacklustre things I've ever heard. So now I'm able to add Franglen to the list of hack composers who take over franchises I love and ruin potentially great movies (other 'luminaries' on this list include Desplat, Giacchino and Göransson). This should have been James Newton Howard's gig all the way. I'm also tired of all the Junkie XL bashing here; he would have been a million times more interesting than Franglen.
  17. Believe me, I tried listening to the bootleg recording sessions of Avatar, and it was such a slog to get through. It has amazing moments (some of which are not on the OST), but Horner got so excited with creating the musical language of Pandora that he apparently recorded A LOT of exotic music for the Na'Vi. It's impressively done and I like the huge research he has done, but, unless you like listening for lots of music by the native people of America, it's a very hard score to listen on its complete form. So, for him, I would like to see expanded Willow and The Land Before Time. I feel that I will like these scores more once I hear them in complete form. And for Silvestri, an expanded Van Helsing would be great. One of the funnier scores he's ever written, with his traditional style of action music and lots of gothic choir. For Goldsmith, maybe US Marshalls, Medicine Man and Mulan.
  18. I know only of the use by Willy Schmidt-Gentner in 1929's Pandora's Box.
  19. Thinking in terms of anniversaries keeps hope alive! So, like, Pandora’s box, wasn’t hope the one thing that she managed to keep in there at the end, the one thing that gave humanity a reason to live? (My greek mythology is rusty.) We need a reason to look forward to the future, and that’s what hope is! LLL Patriot in 2020; I can feel it!
  20. I like Endgame but James Cameron is still King of the Earth (or should I say Pandora?)
  21. It'll be interesting to see if one composer carries through all 4 sequels or whether, like each film's co-writer, Cameron will opt for different musical voices in each film. It could be the hardest scoring assignment in Hollywood, outside a Star Wars score. Not only are you dealing with the legacy of James Horner and how to carry forth his work on the original, but you're dealing with a notorious perfectionist for a director who loves nothing more than to micro-manage his crew. I do think Cameron admires the classical symphonic composer though. Other than Fiedel (whose synth scores for Terminator were obviously a stylistic directive) he's always returned to symphonic composers for his films -- just requesting synth textures in the orchestration. He's also waxed lyrical about John Williams on multiple occasions. Weren't there rumours he was pursuing Williams to score Avatar when that project was gestating? So would Cameron go full blown Zimmer (or one of his proteges) for the Avatar sequels? I just don't picture it, personally. If I had to choose a left-field composer, I'd love it to be Mychael Danna. I think his sensibilities are perfectly suited to the Pandora universe. Here's an interesting quote from Cameron around the time of Horner's passing:
  22. Pandora: The World of Avatar (James Horner/Simon Franglen) I consider this posthumous Horner, although I'm not exactly sure how much he was responsible for and what this Franglen fellow provided. It's still technically new Horner music from beyond the grave and probably the last we'll ever hear from him. My issue with the Avatar score is the overabundance of alien chanting. I know this probably works in the context of the movie, but separated from the picture, I just do not want to hear that stuff. Don't get me wrong, some of the vocals are alright. I just want the orchestra. Of course, the theme park score still features this sort of thing, but there's a section in the middle of the album, roughly tracks 5-7 where the orchestra does its thing without the interference of Pandoran alien vocalists and I just love what I'm hearing. This is probably the standout track for me. Unlike in the inappropriately silent Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (sorry, @King Mark!), music fills the soundscape of the Avatar land. It's exactly the sort of epic driving background music a theme park of this type demands and about 3:00 in to "Raggatar", Horner is back, even if just for a few minutes. But those minutes will turn to hours and years as the muzak continues to pipe in this stuff at Disney World.
