Fun thread: What JW piece would you choose to put on a new NASA golden record

Hypothetical situation:

NASA decides to do another Golden Record and wants John Williams on it.

You've been contracted by NASA as a JWFan consultant who's in charge of choosing only 1 cue/track/piece.

What are you choosing?

I had a feeling there might a lot of E.T. and Close Encounters on this (and NOT for the alien aspect of it)

I'm still struggling to choose my piece.

I feel like it's limited in the sense of this concept but also so many pieces of his are just amazing.

I'm actually, as of right now, leaning towards choosing Olympic Fanfare.

As it's a theme for the world's greatest athletes.

But I kinda want something from his films to be on this.

Maybe JW is an alien? All his best music seems to be written with aliens in mind...

Well already I think the top contenders will be star wars, superman, e.t. and close encounters. And all involve aliens.

Actually for a more outside the box pick, "The Conversation" would be worthy.

Unless it actually meant something in alien and we offend them and then boom there goes our planet.

These are things we must consider as an official consultant with NASA.

my short list so far, no order.

Olympic Fanfare

Remembrances - Schindler's List

Throne Room/End Title - Star Wars

Adventures on Earth - E.T.

Journey to the Island - Jurassic Park

Theme from Superman

The Raiders March (2:50 version off the DCC release)

The original AOTC finale, before the Imperial March insert. If we can't listen to it on Earth, at least let the aliens enjoy it.

They should bury it INSIDE the earth (because it sucks)

What if they don’t speak synth?

Isn't this essentially a veiled way of asking what one's favourite John Williams track is?

But for me, it kinda works. It's the JURASSIC PARK theme, which has the nobility and humanity required to present us to aliens in a sympathetic manner. Unless, our conceptions of nobility and humanity are the opposite of theirs.

Either Journey to the Island or Welcome to Jurassic Park.

The former has my preferred version of the island theme and the magnificent choir at the end, whereas the latter has the wonderful piano work. I can never decide which of these is my favourite.

Honourable second place: Hedwig's Theme

Absolutely not.  None of the pieces I've mentioned are close to being my favorite track.  One must consider the importance of the piece over their personal preference.

The raiders march might be my favorite theme but I doubt it's worthy of the golden record. and the one on my list is far from my favorite track.  That would prob be ToD end credits....but again, worthy of the golden record to space? I'm not sure.

Suite from SpaceCamp would be my first thought.

good pick.

also, my goodness, i literally had no idea so many pieces that could legitimately qualify for this would be space themed.

pretty cool.

To my pleasant surprise, that one was used as the finale piece of this event with Dutch astronaut André Kuipers:

It was an interpretation I had never heard before or since.

I made a phone recording of it, but it's not very good...

now i've got to thinking that maybe it has to be something from Jurassic Park.

i looked up what images are on the original golden record, and there doesn't seem to be anything truly dinosaur related (i think)

so we could include the theme from Jurassic Park along with some pictures of dinosaurs and bones.  I mean they did used to rule the world, right?

Oh you know what could be a good one?

The Asteroid Field

Probably would go through one on its way too.

Also from empire I feel like Yoda's Theme and the Imperial March could contenders.  Although Imperial March might sound too intimidating for our alien friends.

Nah fuck it, if I had to choose something from empire it would be Rebel Fleet/End Title and those fucking aliens can figure out the suite themselves.  Too much good on those end credits.
