Mark Graham just picked up a John Williams sketch and is "in a rush"! Any ideas?

lead orchestrator of the engraving house John Williams sends all his material to nowadays.

I looked on his IMDB and he seems to have worked for pretty much every major composer in Hollywood: Powell, JNH, Beltrami, Silvestri, Thomas Newman, JW... Seems like a very well connected guy and someone every big name composer can trust.

Maybe that new piece Williams is writing for Yo-yo Ma? If not for the concert, maybe there's a recording session?

And with that warehouse of scores...it makes totally sense!

Well played Mr Williams ;)

A new arrangement for this week’s concerts would be my guess but you never now

There is the lovely Prayer for Peace arrangement on the CD for guitar and cello.  My idle speculation/money would be on a reworking of it for something else (piano, violin?) so it can be performed tonight.

Since Williams isn't in LA at the moment - he's in Philadelphia for a concert tonight - surely the only reason Graham would have to "rush" anything from Williams would be because it's being performed tonight in Philadelphia (and probably again Thursday at Carnegie Hall)

If you never saw it, Finale did a very cool interview with him in 2017 about their process lately with Williams

Quote

Can you share a story of a time when things didn’t go exactly as planned?

I can remember one incident on a “Harry Potter” film. There was a short cue he’d written for a kind of unusual small band and there were no strings. There might have been an accordion or a keyboard or something like that.

So I got a call to go out to the podium. And he said to me, sotto voce, “There are no strings on this cue.” We looked at it together and I said, “Well, you didn’t write any strings.” And he said, “Well, you know what to do.”  [Laughs]

So I provided the string parts from his keyboard sketch and within forty-five minutes or an hour they had strings and that’s the way we did that.

Any idea which cue he's referring to here? Something from PoA?

Are you sure you couldn't find a smaller photo?

Perhaps this was just some minor revisions to the cello concerto or Just Down West Street? But would Williams make last minute changes if he wasn't conducting?

So if this rush wasn't for something performed in concert last night in Philadelphia, it was probably for something recorded yesterday in LA.

It could just be like, another arrangement of Galaxy's Edge for a theme park or something.

Or for one of these Disney(+) products in the making?

But why then did Mark choose the Jurassic Park theme?

Because it's taken from a score that was written 65 million years ago and got frozen in amber.

Because he is a fan of Giacchino?

Turns out it was just a Door Dash order for Thai Curry.

My trusted source here informed me that it was in fact Dim Sum.

The sketch might have been for an insert for Just Down West street or such.

Turns out it was his tax declaration.

As far as I know, he always orchestrates his concert works in full himself, so a sketch would generally imply it's for some kind of movie or TV project.
