  1. What we already knew from the sheet music leak: 4M5 Map to Snow Scene is the original version of the cue for the Weasely twins showing Harry how the Marauders Map works, and then him sneaking into the Honeydukes basement. It opens with the harpsichord motif and is followed by a nice woodwind and string passage. It was completely unused in the final film, replaced by a rewritten cue that is mostly an ethereal synth backing (like the cloak music from HP1), with the harpsichord motif and some bassoon riffs. This wasn't in the sheet music leak, which could potentially mean it was written and recorded really late in the process, as most things not included in the leak were late rewrites. What we learned from the BMI database: The revised cue is called "Up The Stairs" Revealed via this radio show: 4M5 Map To Snow Scene was recorded, and Mike placed it right after 4M3+4 New Woods Walk and Birds Flight in the track called "Woods Walk and Birds Flight". My personal commentary, not an official statement: It works brilliantly there, as it's technically Williams' exact original intentions. Up The Stairs is not as interesting compositionally as Map To Snow Scene, and I'd guess Map To Snow Scene is the version he'd put on the OST if he wanted to put something from that section of the film there. It's also fine to have both versions in the main program, as they don't really share any musical similarities despite both scoring the same scene. As you can tell from listening, it's easy enough to carve out Map To Snow Scene and move it to a bonus track if you prefer.

  2. Thanks all for the kind feedback, glad you enjoyed listening. I'm just finishing off the final part which focuses on COS & Azkaban over the next few days. Hi @Josh500, still here! 😉

  3. I'm pretty sure Williams would have objected to a track list full of 20 second cues. Doing it this way gives Williams a listening experience while also providing those with "finely tuned antenna" what they want.

  8. Tim Burden just posted this on fb: More first listens to unreleased Harry Potter music from the new John Williams La-La Land Records box set from 1pm today. Mike Matessino will personally introduce 3 cues during Movies and Musicals on RTÉ lyric fm. https://www.rte.ie/lyricfm/

  9. So when are they previewing the Azkaban set with Mike on this channel? https://tunein.com/radio/RT-Lyric-FM-984-s24914/ They said "next Saturday," last week but I have no idea what time (it's already 2pm Saturday in Australia). They premiered the vocal version of Hogwarts Forever on last week's show so should be fun to see what they premiere from Azkaban! EDIT: Okay, the schedule is a little confusing (I think it's converted the times listed into my local time zone) so it says the 'Movies and Musicals' show begins at midnight tonight. This is the correct show, right? It's 5 hours away.

  11. I think Ross could be pretty much anywhere, for all we know. It's like trying to catch smoke. Like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands. LAST KNOWN LOCATION: Dufftown

  12. And I think those samples also showed us that even when combining cues, we're going to get clean starts and endings for those who want to make their own chronological playlist. Everyone wins

  13. Putting some of the alternates in to the main body of the score could be how they got around having lots of very short cues.

  14. I bet there's lots of hidden gems throughout. This is why we must stay positive!

  15. That PoA cue was incredible. So many bits I never heard before! Listening to this set will be like discovering old dusty photographs we didn't know existed. Well, not dusty anymore: MM polished them

  16. I hope he is! Because it means alternates like The Train to Hogwarts V2 could be hidden in tracks like Trouble Takes Many Forms.

  20. It's becoming clearer that this will be much more than a chronological playlist burned to CD, which POA with it's numerous short cues could be in danger of becoming in the wrong hands. MM's treatment of Close Encounters for LLL is what opened my eyes (ears?) to what was really important in these releases. I'm so excited to hear the complete POA score in its best possible presentation, without even thinking about the film too much.

  34. Show starts at 1pm Irish time. Ends at 4pm Irish time. I will be listening and will post here as soon as I can let ye know when the Harry Potter bit is starting. Alternatively, listening to the show from the start isn’t a bad alternative since we’re all kind of interested in the genre that the show is dedicated to!

  36. I order mine today!! Only down side is that this is a Christmas gift that my wife is going to wrap and not let me listen too it until Christmas, assuming I get it by then. I remember listening to the HP1 ost for the first time back when it was originally released. After my first listen I wasn’t convinced that it was going to be a memorable score. I enjoyed it but it didn’t fascinate me on that first listen. It probably didn’t help that I’m not a huge fan of the movies and have never read the books. Fast forward to now and of course it is memorable and has become one of my favorite Williams scores. Like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and E.T., my kids knew and recognized the HP themes well before they ever saw the movies. This box set is going to be a glorious experience.

  38. It's entirely possible they've begun lining up empty boxes that will have Potter added to them when they come in. I don't know what their process is.

  39. The HP1 teaser and trailer were recorded in LA long before there was even a cut of the film available for him to score. The first teaser was in theaters half a year before the film was, something like that. The score was recorded in London
