There's a Serbian restaurant that's good for food/drinks and open till late (though that's perhaps not so relevant for these early concerts) about 10-15 minutes (on foot) from the Musikverein. And a bit closer than that there's an Irish pub that we often end up at as the last stop after these kinds of concerts, though it's a bit on the loud side and you can't get too many people in there without probably having to split them up in smaller groups. Maurizio and Peio know the place I'm talking about.
MSM 126
Something else I would like to ask...is it true they have sold the Circle (front three rows) tickets in the Musikverein? Because they would not be available due to extension of the podium...if anyone can confirm and want to swap their circle tickets please pm me!! I'm hoping that Stephane Deneve eventually releases a cycle of Williams recordings. From what I can tell he's a huge JW fan as well as a friend, and with his new position as Music Director of St. Louis Symphony, he's definitely a "somebody" in the classical music world. He just took up his post at the start of the 2019-20 season and within just a few months he had brought JW out to conduct. I saw him and JW share conducting duties in Philly in 2018, which was my first (and probably only) time ever seeing the Maestro live. Deneve will definitely be one to watch out for, in the coming years and decades. He's only 48, and I have a feeling he'll be one of Williams' loudest champions in the concert hall. Slatkin is also obviously a fan, but he's getting old. Until more inevitably crop up, I'd say that Dudamel and Deneve are the "next generation" guys we should expect to hopefully propel Williams more into the classical mainstream. For instance, Deneve is in his inaugural season at STL and he has already done a regular concert program which included "Hedwig's Theme", alongside other more established works. It's also worth noting that in this past decade, Deneve put out an acclaimed series of Roussel recordings for Naxos; so, he is definitely willing to record stuff that is more obscure/that is not often done. Thor 7,627
Gmoakeller is great -- although a bit "claustrophobic" in the window-less basement where we had our Horner gathering years ago. As I've said elsewhere, it's now 100% certain that I won't make this. I'm (obviously) gutted about this, but I hope to experience the event through your eyes -- both the concert and the pre/post-concert get-togethers. So I'm hoping for a plethora of pictures, reports and videos once you get back! Meanwhile, I have my own John Williams event to attend to here in Norway on Saturday, and I'll create a thread about that once it's over.

Popular Post Pawel P. 738
I had a dream last night in which I saw John Williams in a photo shoot with… Riccardo Muti under the window of my old apartment. I thought that I had to get down quickly, because such an opportunity to meet my idol won’t happen again. I don't remember any more, I just woke up. You can imagine my surprise when I looked here in the morning and saw these pictures. It's a totally surreal situation - in a few days I'll be at two John Williams' concerts, with one of the world's best orchestras performing his compositions. If it's really filmed, it’ll be a souvenir for life. It’s very cool to see Maestro in great form! St0rMl0rD, Martinland and WDG01

In any case, I like your avatar, Pawel - it was one of my earlier, treasured albums; listened to it over and over again right after it came out - and I adore the cover artwork by Drew, my favourite poster artist; even did a blow-up/poster of sorts from it, right in the early 90s.
