Has anyone removed the backside sheet from the box/book? I first thought it was supposed to be permanent but, apparently, it is meant to come off.

I've left mine on for the time being.

Anyone peel this yet?  I think it’s held in by dabs of that booger glue like Blu Ray steelbook sheets. I wouldn’t want to leave it forever and have it react chemically.

Someone go first.

I own 5 of these boxsets and I would NEVER remove that glued sheet, it would damage the boxsets.

The sheet on mine was aligned crooked, so the decision was easy.  It’s cool to see the art design of the list of film titles rather than the sell sheet showing you what’s inside.  Which I will keep with it.

This complicates things. Risk damage...or live with a crooked sheet. The crooked sheet would drive me nuts, but I want to hear what Bespin thinks...

There's virtually no damage risk

Had the day off so I ripped all 20 discs in one day.  Shame the Schindler’s List disc is just the straight OST, such that the metadata wasn’t even an option to tag it a disc from the box set.

I finally got around and listened to disc 20, and have a few thoughts:

  • not too fond of the Ella Fitzgerald "Make Me Rainbows"; I've never cared much for her as a vocalist, though
  • I had never heard of "The Same Hello, the Same Goodbye," so this was a pleasant surprise
  • I'd heard the song "Daddy's Gone A-Hunting" before, but always in godawful quality; it sounds great here, and I finally dig this song
  • I hope to someday hear more about the origin of "Come Tuesday," which is really much, MUCH too good a song to have been in a vault all these years
  • I thought the Kyle Eastwood take on "The Eiger Sanction" kicked ass
  • I had never heard "A Powdered Wig," which is awesome; Johnny is a real standout performer there
  • I wish the Carol Burnett (no relation) version of "Love's the Only Game in Town," which is majestic, had been included instead of the Suzanne Stevens one; but this one is fine
  • I liked the Lou Donaldson version of "The Long Goodbye" more than any on the actual soundtrack!

Overall, this disc alone makes me happy to have bought the set.

Listened today to disk 19. Didn't ever listen before to "Prelude and Fugue" and "Sinfonietta for Wind Ensemble" and must say: Not a fan. I know, it were the 60s and the spirit in avantgarde circles was not to enjoy music but to explore the borders of music as we know it. But as I tend to listen music for enjoyment and not to challenge my nerves this is not for me. Still the Violin Concerto and the Elegy are great.

The development that Williams took between his early absolute music and the later one can be well observed in the rework of his first violin concerto. The original recording under Slatkin is as well not as listenable as his later recording with Shaham on the violin.

Gil Shaham, you mean. I actually prefer the original Mark Peskanov version. I agree it's not easy listening, those early concert works, but when I'm in the mood, I find them fascinating to explore. To get lost in his abstract flute concerto, for example.

Yeah, thanks. I  remembered the name wrongly.

For such kind of experimental music I experienced that I can easier be taken by it, if I hear it live. On disk it's just disturbing.

But I also used to be more open minded when I was your age. :)

I must admit, for the first movement I used to prefer the Pescanov version as well. But for the second and the quite atonal third movement I like the reworked version much better.

The Legend Of John Williams : John Williams, Multi-Artistes, John Williams: Amazon.fr: CD et Vinyles}

105.99€ now :(.
Just realized that Amazon UK has this on pre-order for £109.99, release date 16th of February: not a great price, but a sign of a wider distribution maybe :)

Just in from Amazon.fr :D.

Currently priced €98, cheap shipping cost to UK, delivered in 3 working days. Much cheaper than Amazon.co.uk itself or anywhere else.

Anyone else had problems ripping any of these discs? Just started with staff 1,  everything went smooth until the last track which is now giving troubles 😕

I tested the disc in two different pc drives and one hifi cd player.

Track 12 is definitely faulty.

I can only play it with my laptop, however there is no way to rip it.

The rest of the set is ok. I really hope Amazon.fr will offer a replacement disc as I'd really not want to return the whole set on international shipping 😒.

They usually refund the international shipping.

I got in touch with their customer service, they said they wouldn't refund it, then the webpage says they would, up to €7. Money aside, the idea of having to go through this plus making a new order once it's been refunded, with more days to wait for the actual delivery, because of an issue affecting 2 minutes of a track out of a 20 disc set is giving me some headache 🫣.

I cleaned the disc with a dedicated tool and cleaning solution, the disc is clean and looks immaculate, I am trying to rip with Exact Audio Copy, it's been working on that track for several hours trying to get those errors fixed, tomorrow I will know if it's worked, either way it's surely defective 🙁.

I've returned countless of damaged orders to amazon.fr, amazon.de, and amazon.co.uk, and I've always got the return shipping refunded, although sometimes with some issues with customer service.

Three pieces of advice:

- If you still want the item, ask for a replacement, not a refund. Then they sometimes tells you to keep the damaged item. If you're asked to return the damaged item, you'll often receive the replacement before having to return, so if both are damaged you might be able to combine parts to create an undamaged set.

- If you're told to return the damaged item, use the cheapest shipping possible. They usually won't refund the whole expense of an expensive, tracked shipping.

- Some customer service people have no clue and will misinform you. If that happens, try again with another customer service person and play the part of an unhappy, but polite, customer.

I've had the same issue with disc 1, that final track never ripped. However it plays perfectly fine so I was okay with it

@ciarlese In EAC, you can rip a track in 'burst mode', without error correction for these case. Often the encoded track is perfectly fine.

Do I have to say that the CD technology is perfectly... imperfect? ;)

I had the feeling that it was more a mastering issue. Maybe not every set is affected but I am not surprised to see that I am not the only one. This is one of the reason why I am not sure if  returning the set is the right thing to do, as it is possible that I will get having the same issue :/

I agree that many of them have no idea of what they are talking about...however I couldn't get a replacement, I have to go through return&refund then reorder it again :/.
