crumbs 14,317
Of course. It's just an intriguing series of events considering said rumours. Williams ends up scoring the main theme for the anthology film following Rogue One, which the film's composer is obliged to adapt as a blueprint for the score proper. Not long after, rumours start circulating that Giacchino is involved in scoring music for Galaxy's Edge with Williams only for JW to score it solo. artguy360 1,843
Recent info Disney shared about Galaxy's Edge included some of the different music for the cantina. Apparently there is new jazzy cantina music along with some more club-like music performed my a Droid band. Not clear if JW worked on these but I assume not. Disco Stu 15,495
Yeah I would assume that JW wrote a miniature suite that several other composers will adapt and take a lead from. Like with his music for NBC over the years. I bet that's the extent of his involvement. Like, there's no way he scored the coke ad. It was a very particular set of circumstances that led to him scoring the Potter Coke ad in 2001.
JohnnyD 1,223
I hope that there will be an official release of the Maestro’s music for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I am going to be planning a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, three day weekend visit, Friday through Sunday, sometime between September and November. I can’t wait to experience everything at Galaxy’s Edge.

mrbellamy 6,287
I don’t think he sat down and scored the ad itself but I’d be surprised/impressed if that version of the theme isn’t him, uncanny. Maybe it’s excerpted from the full piece or just one of a series of random alternate variations he did for them to use in commercials, ride safety videos etc. The point of the music is to advertise the park, he’s not really above doing this kinda shit when asked. He did commercials for COS too so the Hedwig Coke one wasn’t necessarily that special. Will

JohnnyD 1,223
At the end of the the panel, they played the full concert piece. Everything that we have heard are snippets of the full Theme from Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. On the live feed, you can here the beginning of it as Josh Gad introduces the piece to be played as everyone leaves, and points out that it is the first time that the full concert piece has been heard publicly (1:30:04 in the video). Unfortunately, the live feed ends just after the opening fanfare goes into the strings. I am sure that the piece will be officially released. I really want to hear and experience it. Also, they gave a big shoutout to the Maestro and show video of him at 1:18:41. Will

Popular Post JohnnyD 1,223
I have been a fan of Star Wars since I saw Episode IV: A New Hope on VHS when I was six or seven years old. Star Wars is my favorite franchise. The story, the characters, the Maestro’s music. I own the first eight chapters of the Skywalker Saga, the entire set of The Clone Wars (until season 7 premieres with the launch of Disney+, in which I will subscribe to catch that), Solo, Rebels and Rogue One. I also own many of the novels, including Queen's Shadow, Dark Disciple, Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, the novelization of Solo, The Rise of the Empire, Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances, Ahsoka, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, Lost Stars, Heir to the Jedi, The Aftermath trilogy, Last Shot, Bloodline, Phasma, The Legends of Luke Skywalker, the novelizations of Episode VII and VIII, and I look forward to the novels coming out. I am really looking forward to catching The Mandalorian on Disney+. Seeing the entire saga thus far, it will be really exciting to see the final chapter play out in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. I am really looking forward to experiencing everything that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has to offer. From the small glimpses seen and the details I've read, Batuu and Black Spire Outpost sound like a very interesting place to visit. I am really excited! Popular Post Nick Parker 3,040
Nice! I'd reserved "final" judgment on the piece all these months because it was pretty obvious that we were hearing an abridged version of it. Now that we can hear the full thing...damn, there are some really cool moments! Some Grade A classic Star Wars writing such as the brass chords starting at 9:18 before it segues into some Parade of the Slave Children dope-ass shit. Popular Post deleted account 108
I do believe that MG worked on the revision of Star Tours a few years ago. So it's very possible Disney approached him to work on Galaxy's Edge. I also know for a fact that JW was not crazy about any aspect of the music situation on R1, even before MG was hired. However, currently, Lucasfilm seems to be going to some length to placate JW, (perhaps because he supposedly almost quit ep 9 when he learned JJ was coming back). It's obvious he's not going to be around forever, and my guess is when JW passes on, MG will be brought in to the SW musical universe a lot. But I have not heard any rumors re:JW/MG on the theme park front. All I know is so far the publicly announced work has been done by JW and Williams Ross. Rumor control ends now. crumbs, Bayesian, mstrox and 2 others 4

Tom 4,660
I think Williams genuinely likes Abrams. If anything, the recording schedule and rewrites were the issue (if the rumor is even true). in the case of IX, it looks like it will be much closer to a usual scoring schedule. As for the GE piece again, Williams really put his heart into this. Complex orchestrations, awesome main lines, fanfares, and theme development. This better be on the program for the summer Williams concerts (regardless of whether he is conducting). That beginning will bring the house down. Those high strings in the beginning annoyed me back with the original youtube video, but they are harmless in the full piece. crumbs and Will

Popular Post crumbs 14,317
If it's any consolation for Williams, there should be far less rewrites for IX simply due to the tighter schedule. JJ doesn't have the luxury of changing each scene half a dozen times throughout post this time around (and making the scoring process a timing/tonal nightmare). 800+ takes for a film score is unheard of in the SW saga. From an artistic perspective, I can completely understand why Williams might not have enjoyed the process for TFA much, even if he publicly said otherwise. Let's not forget that it took many months before we even knew if he'd return for TLJ -- there was a veiled reluctance to come back for whatever reason. Yes, we can all speculate till the cows come home, but it's very clear that Disney have bent over backwards to accommodate Williams since he came onboard in 2013. Now, if they can just bend over backwards to hire Mike Matessino for OT and PT trilogy expansions... Remco, Evanus and Disco Stu
